The scene opens in the ruined streets of Alubarna. A massive building collapses into the street, sending up clouds of dust and debris. Amidst the destruction, Roronoa Zoro and Mr. 1 face off. Zoro is bleeding heavily from a head wound, his left eye closed. He stares intensely, thinking, "A SWORD THAT CAN'T CUT ANYTHING," Mr. 1 looks back calmly, stating, "A futile struggle..." Zoro holds his sword, Wado Ichimonji, up in front of him, questioning his own limits. He thinks, "YET CAN CUT THROUGH IRON...!?" and "I CAN'T UNDERSTAND IT AT ALL!" Despite his confusion and injuries, he resolves to keep fighting, thinking, "In any case, a true swordsman must continually walk forwards!"
Roronoa ZoroMr. 1
02
Mr. 1 stands with his arms spread wide, the blades extending from his forearms glinting. He unleashes a devastating attack, shouting, "ATOMIC DICER!" The attack slices the collapsing building behind him into a neat grid of blocks, which come crashing down with a loud "PA PAAAN!!" From behind Mr. 1, Zoro is seen bracing himself against the onslaught of falling rubble. He holds his sword ready, determined to figure out how to cut iron. He thinks, "I'LL KEEP TRYING UNTIL I SUCCEED!"
Roronoa ZoroMr. 1
03
Mr. 1 charges forward, swinging his bladed arms with immense force. Zoro meets the attack, blocking with his sword. The impact creates a shower of sparks as the blades grind against each other with a loud "GIGIGIGIN!!" Mr. 1 pushes hard, forcing Zoro backward. Zoro slides across the ground, his boots scraping the stone with a "GAGA--!!" as he struggles to hold his ground against the heavy blows. A close-up shows Zoro gritting his teeth, feeling the immense pressure of Mr. 1's strength.
Roronoa ZoroMr. 1
04
Zoro retaliates, swinging his sword with a grunt, "HNGHH!" Mr. 1 swiftly dodges backward, avoiding the strike with a "Ngh..." Mr. 1 immediately counters, bringing his bladed arm down in a heavy chop. Zoro raises his sword to block, catching the blade. The two clash again, sparks flying as their weapons lock. Mr. 1 presses his advantage, forcing Zoro into a defensive struggle. Zoro grits his teeth, straining against the weight of the attack, the sound of grinding metal filling the air.
Roronoa ZoroMr. 1
05
Suddenly, Mr. 1 looks surprised, uttering "HM!?" as Zoro manages to break the lock and slide backward, creating some distance between them. Mr. 1 doesn't hesitate. He raises his arms, the blades positioned like pincers. He shouts, "GAZAMI-" and lunges forward, bringing his arms together in a vicious scissor-like motion aimed at Zoro's face, yelling, "DORI! (crab hunt)". Zoro barely manages to lean back, dodging the lethal strike by a hair's breadth.
Roronoa ZoroMr. 1
06
Zoro flips backward, landing a safe distance away. He pants heavily, "Huff... Huff..." Mr. 1 watches him, acknowledging his resilience, "He's one tough bastard..." Zoro replies, "Same to you..." Mr. 1 then changes his tactic. The blades on his forearms begin to spin rapidly like drills. He warns Zoro, "By the way, you shouldn't mistakenly think of me as a swordsman... I've got plenty of other weapons to cut your body to shreds!" He unleashes his new technique, shouting, "SPIRAL HOLLOW". Zoro looks on in surprise.
Roronoa ZoroMr. 1
07
Mr. 1 declares his true nature: "AN ASSASSIN." Zoro retorts, "So you aren't a swordsman, are you... Then what exactly are you, a miner!?" Mr. 1 charges, thrusting his spinning drill arms at Zoro. Zoro blocks the attack with his swords, but the spinning blades grind fiercely against his weapons. Zoro struggles to hold them back, thinking, "S-SPARKS!? HOW FAST ARE THOSE THINGS SPINNING!? MY SWORDS ARE GETTING BUMPED BACK!"
Roronoa ZoroMr. 1
08
Mr. 1 swings his drill arm powerfully, knocking Zoro's swords aside and breaking his guard. Zoro realizes his peril, thinking, "OH SHIT-" Mr. 1 coldly states, "Since I'd cut through everything without restraint. I wouldn't even make for a good miner." With Zoro defenseless, Mr. 1 drives his spinning drill arm directly into Zoro's chest. The brutal attack lands with a sickening impact, sending a spray of blood into the air.
Roronoa ZoroMr. 1
09
The force of the blow sends Zoro flying backward, a trail of blood following him. He crashes into the ground and skids across the rough stone, screaming in agony, "GAHHH!" His swords scrape against the ground as he slides. Mr. 1 stands tall, watching his opponent fall. He coldly remarks, "A single moment's miscalculation, Invites only death." Zoro collapses onto his knees, his swords clattering to the ground beside him.
Roronoa ZoroMr. 1
10
Mr. 1 looks down at Zoro, who is now lying face down and motionless in the rubble of the ruined street. The scene is quiet save for the dust settling. Zoro's body twitches slightly, but he remains down. Mr. 1 casually licks the blood off his fingers, observing his fallen foe with a thoughtful "Hmm..."
Roronoa ZoroMr. 1
11
A close-up shows Zoro's face, battered and bleeding, his teeth gritted in pain. Mr. 1 notices his resilience, saying, "You still breathe..." Zoro struggles to push himself up, determined not to give up. He thinks, "I CAN'T SHOW MY BACK TO HIM!" Mr. 1 questions his stubbornness, "Why do you struggle so, even when disarmed?" Without waiting for an answer, Mr. 1 delivers a brutal kick, shouting, "SPAR BREAK!" The kick sends Zoro flying backward into a large stone pillar.
Roronoa ZoroMr. 1
12
Zoro crashes violently into the base of the massive stone pillar, the impact shattering the stone. He is heavily injured, blood spurting from the deep wound in his chest. The structural integrity of the pillar is compromised, and it begins to crack ominously. Mr. 1 turns his back and walks away, saying, "Rest in peace." The massive pillar collapses entirely, burying Zoro under a mountain of heavy rubble. Mr. 1 quips, "TALK ABOUT A ROCKY DAY..."
Roronoa ZoroMr. 1
13
Mr. 1 continues to walk away from the collapsed pillar, leaving the cloud of dust behind him. The sound of his footsteps echoes in the quiet street. Suddenly, a sharp sound cuts through the air, and a sword blade slices cleanly through a piece of falling rubble right behind Mr. 1.
Mr. 1
14
Mr. 1 stops in his tracks, sensing something behind him. A close-up reveals Zoro's face, covered in blood and shadows, breathing heavily but still conscious. He thinks of his crewmates, "I WONDER... IF THE OTHERS ARE ALRIGHT..." Mr. 1 turns his head, a look of shock crossing his face. To his disbelief, Zoro is standing amidst the rubble, holding one sword, battered and bleeding profusely, but still very much alive.
Roronoa ZoroMr. 1
15
Mr. 1 is stunned. He asks, "How can you still stand... Did you somehow dodge all the falling rubble even after getting so thoroughly cut up!?" Zoro stands calmly, his breathing steadying. He thinks, "...DODGE? ALL THESE ROCKS...? NO... I KNEW... I KNEW WHICH PLACE THE ROCKS WOULDN'T FALL..." He closes his eyes, focusing his senses. "IT'S UNDERNEATH THE ROCK OVER THERE..." He feels the presence of his sword. "MY SWORD..." Mr. 1 is confused, "What're you-" Zoro grips his sword, experiencing a profound realization. "I'VE HAD THIS FEELING BEFORE... WHEN ALL AROUND ME BECOMES QUIET... AND MY OWN HEARTBEAT BEATS LOUDLY AS A DRUM... THIS IS THE BOUNDARY BETWEEN LIFE AND DEATH..."
Roronoa ZoroMr. 1
16
Zoro focuses intensely, his heartbeat echoing in his ears. He thinks, "'BREATH'..." He looks at the falling rocks, realizing, "NO, NOT A PRESENCE... SOMETHING MORE DEFINITE... ALMOST LIKE A... THESE FALLING ROCKS... I CAN SENSE A KIND OF PRESENCE ABOUT THEM, AS IF THEY WERE LIVING THINGS..." He looks at the ground, a palm tree, and a rock, sensing the "breath" of each. "...COULD THIS BE IT?... AS DOES THE SOIL... THE TREE HAS ITS OWN BREATH, THE BREATH... OF ROCK..." A memory of his master, Koshiro, surfaces. Koshiro says, "LISTEN WELL, ZORO. THERE ARE SWORDSMEN IN THIS WORLD WHO CAN'T CUT ANYTHING." Zoro connects the dots, "TO BE ABLE TO CUT NOTHING... DOES THAT MEAN TO KNOW THE 'BREATH' OF THINGS...!? IS THAT... THE ABILITY TO CUT THROUGH IRON!?"
Roronoa ZoroKoshiro
17
Mr. 1 is furious and bewildered. He shouts, "WHAT THE HELL DID YOU DO!? How is it possible that you could still be standing after taking so much damage and losing that much blood!? It's not possible!" He glares at Zoro, promising, "...I don't know what trick you pulled, but I'll make sure to kill you for good this time." Zoro remains calm, his senses heightened. He thinks, "I CAN HEAR IT... THE BREATH OF HIS IRON TOO..." He stands ready, focusing his intent. "SPLIT... CONVEY MY WILL TO THE BLADE..."
Roronoa ZoroMr. 1
18
Mr. 1 questions Zoro's stance, "You think you can take my attack with a single sword?" Zoro holds his sword horizontally, ready for a final strike. He thinks, "...NOW ALL THAT'S LEFT IS TO SEE IF I TRULY CAN CUT THROUGH IRON OR NOT!" Mr. 1 prepares to charge, saying, "Confident, aren't you... So be it then." Zoro's eye narrows with absolute focus. He states, "One is enough. I won't be taking any of your attacks anymore..." Mr. 1 charges with his bladed arms, shouting, "ATOMIC SPURT!" In a flash of movement, Zoro draws his sword, executing his technique. He shouts, "ONE-SWORD STYLE, IAI... SHISHI SONSON! (Lion's Ode)" A caption explains: "Iai: the art of quickly drawing, cutting, and re-sheathing the sword."
Roronoa ZoroMr. 1
19
The clash is over in an instant. Zoro stands behind Mr. 1, slowly and calmly sheathing his sword. Mr. 1 is frozen in his attacking pose, a massive spray of blood erupting from his chest where Zoro's blade struck. Zoro speaks quietly, "I GIVE YOU MY THANKS." As his sword clicks into its sheath, he thinks, "I CAN STILL BECOME STRONGER..." A wide shot shows Zoro standing victorious in the foreground, while Mr. 1 collapses to his knees in the background, finally defeated.
