THEY CALL HIM 'STRAW HAT LUFFY'

A pirate ship drops anchor with a loud KER-PLOOSH near an uncharted island. On deck, a hand with a beaded bracelet points at dust while a voice complains, "WHY IS THERE DUST ON MY BULWARKI" A cloth snaps with SHWIK as the black pirate flag bearing a heart-eyed skull is unfurled with a dramatic DAN DUN. Below, Koby cowers in terror as Lady Alvida looms over him, mace raised. Koby pleads, "PLEASE" WHAT...I" while frantically scrubbing, "I'LL CLEAN EVERY- THING ALL OVER AGAIN! PLEASE--!" A pirate begs, "A THOUSAND PARDONS, LADY ALVIDA!!" and stammers, "I-I THOUGHT I'D CLEANED EVERY INCH OF THIS SHIP...!!"

Alvida swings her spiked iron mace with a GWUMP and WONK, demanding of the terrified Koby, "KOBY! WHO IS THE FAIREST THROUGHOUT ALL THE SEASI" Koby screams, "I DON'T WANNA DIE!!! PLEASE, NOT THE IRON MACE!!" while a pirate cheers, "NO ONE COMPARES TO YOU!!!" Alvida pauses with a smug AHEM... HEH HEH... and asks, "WHY ARE YOU, LADY ALVIDA!!" She declares, "THE SHIP I SAIL IN MUST BE AS CLEAN AND BEAUTIFUL AS I AM. UNDERSTANDI" and snaps, "CORRECT!! WHICH IS WHY I WILL NOT TOLERATE ANYTHING DIRTY!!" Koby yelps "Y-YES, LADY ALVIDA! RIGHT AWAY!" as she kicks him with WHAM WHAM and EEEK, ordering, "OTHER THAN THAT, YOU'RE WORTHLESS! HERE, SHINE MY SHOES!!" Koby replies meekly, "Y-YES... THAT'S VERY KIND OF YOU." Alvida warns, "REMEMBER, KOBY, WERE IT NOT FOR YOUR VAST KNOWLEDGE OF THE SEAS, I WOULD FEED YOU TO THE SHARKS! BUT DON'T PUSH YOUR LUCK!" while Koby sweats and answers, "Y-YES..."

On the deck of the ship, pirates scrub furiously while shouting "AYE AYE!" Alvida stands proudly in the center, mace in hand, declaring, "I DON'T WANT TO SEE EVEN ONE SPECK OF DUST ON THIS SHIP!!!" A sign beside her reads "THE LADY PIRATE IRON MACE ALVIDA". She swings her weapon with a massive DAN DUN, striking a pirate and yelling, "THAT'S ENOUGH!! YOU'RE PATHETIC!!" as he grunts "OOOF!" Koby, bruised and sweating, forces a smile and answers, "YES, MILADY! RIGHT AWAY... HEH HEH..." Alvida points her mace and orders, "IF YOU'VE GOT TIME TO GROVEL, THEN YOU'VE GOT TIME TO SCRUB THE TOILET!!" Koby bows repeatedly, replying, "HEH HEH HEH... SORRY..."

On a rocky shore, a pirate flag flies over a wooden building as a ship sits beached nearby. Koby slumps with a worried expression, muttering '...RIGHT AWAY...'. Inside the building, pirates discuss a barrel of rum that washed ashore. One says, 'BUT IF THE CAPTAIN FINDS OUT, SHE'LL HAVE OUR HEADS!' Another replies, 'WELL I KNOW WHAT TO DO WITH IT! LET'S DRINK IT ALL UP!' Koby nervously rolls the barrel while asking, 'Y-YEAH, AND IT'S NOT EMPTY! I WASN'T SURE WHAT TO DO WITH IT...' A pirate questions, 'WHAT'S THAT, KOBYI DID A BARREL OF RUM WASH UP ON THE BEACHI' The crew agrees they saw nothing and are the only ones who know. Koby pleads, 'PLEASE DON'T HIT ME...' as the striped-shirt pirate looms with a menacing grin.

The barrel suddenly explodes outward. Monkey D. Luffy bursts forth with arms raised high, shouting 'THAT WAS A GREAT NAP!!!' The impact sends pirates flying in all directions amid massive 'KRAK-EK!!!' and 'YA AA WWW NN!!!' sound effects. Luffy laughs, 'I GOT SO DIZZY I THOUGHT I WAS GONNA BARF!! HA HA HA HA!' while a pirate yells 'WHAT THE DEVIL!I' Luffy looks around and remarks, 'HMM... LOOKS LIKE I SURVIVED SOMEHOW.' The massive 'TA-DA!!' lettering emphasizes his dramatic entrance from the shattered barrel.

Luffy stands with his back to the group as the pirates react in shock. Koby gasps 'HUH!I' while others mutter '...!I' The striped-shirt pirate barks, 'BACK TO WORK, YOU SCURVY DOGS!!!' The crew demands, 'WHAT WERE YOU DOING IN THERE!I' 'WHO THE HECK ARE YOU!I' 'WHO ARE YOU GUYSI' Luffy turns with a serious expression. A massive 'KA-BA-BASH' impact follows with 'ARRGH!' cries as the pirates are struck and sent flying amid swirling motion lines and debris.

The striped-shirt pirate lies defeated on the ground with 'Tweet' sounds as the barrel rolls away with a 'KRASH'. A pirate cries 'WHOA!' and 'OH!' Alvida appears, looming with a mace, declaring 'LADY ALVIDA! YOU ARE... OF COURSE!' The pirates panic, one yelling 'W-WHAT!I NEVER! NOT IN A MILLION-- AND YOU DARE TO DEFY MEI' Alvida demands, 'WHICH ONE OF YOU HAD SUCH A "GREAT NAP"!I' while another pirate realizes 'THAT WAS A GREAT NAP!!!' Luffy stands atop the barrel again as the crew cowers. 'GASP!' echoes among the defeated men.

Alvida looms angrily with her spiked mace, glaring at the crew. "...AFTER THE PRICE ON MY HEADI KOBY! YOU TRAITOROUS LITTLE RUNT!" she roars. A panicked pirate stammers, "WHAT!I COULD HE BE A BOUNTY HUNTER... YEAH! THAT GOOD FOR NOTHIN' KOBY BROUGHT THAT STRANGE FELLER HERE! UH... CAPTAIN! WE HAVE AN INTRUDER!!" Another crewman adds, "BUT IF HE'S AS CLEVER AS THEY SAY... HE MIGHT'VE ESCAPED! THAT'S RIDICULOUS!! THE NAVY HAS HIM LOCKED UP... BUT THE ONLY BOUNTY HUNTER BOLD ENOUGH TO COME HERE..." Alvida smirks, "AND THEY SAY THAT THE INFAMOUS RORONOA ZOLO IS THAT CLEVER!" In a forest clearing, Luffy sits up from a barrel, rubbing his head. "I'M FINE, JUST A LITTLE SURPRISED IS ALL. MY NAME'S LUFFY! WHERE AM II" He laughs heartily, "HA HA HA HA!" as Koby approaches nervously. "AFTER GETTING KNOCKED AROUND SO MUCH YOU MUST BE... UM... ARE YOU OKAYI ARE YOU HURTI"

Koby sweats nervously in the woods. "OH... WELL, NONE OF THAT REALLY MATTERS TO ME. I SEE..." Luffy, sitting on the barrel, replies casually. Koby introduces himself with a sign: "I'M KOBY, HER CABIN BOY. THIS ISLAND IS THE HIDEOUT OF IRON MACE ALVIDA, THE LADY PIRATE. KOBY THE CABIN BOY." Luffy stands, grinning. "...BUT IF IT'S A DINGHY YOU WANT, I HAVE ONE... SORTA... YOU'RE LUCKY TO BE ALIVE! YEAH, IT CAUGHT ME BY SURPRISE! PHEW." Koby looks shocked. "YOU GOT SUCKED INTO A GIANT WHIRLPOOL!I YOU WOULDN'T HAPPEN TO HAVE A DINGHY, WOULD YOUI MINE GOT SUCKED INTO A GIANT WHIRLPOOL." Luffy proudly shows off a small boat he built. "I BUILT IT MYSELF. IT TOOK ME TWO YEARS... TWO YEARS!I AND YOU DON'T WANT ITI A COFFINI HUH!! WHAT'S THISI"

Koby panics, waving his arms. "N-NO WAY! JUST THINKING ABOUT WHAT ALVIDA WOULD DO TO ME IF SHE CAUGHT ME MAKES MY BLADDER WEAK... WHY DON'T YOU JUST ESCAPEI NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE I JUST CAN'T RISK IT..." He sweats heavily. "...BUT I DON'T HAVE THE COURAGE TO TRY IT. I GUESS IT'S MY FATE TO BE A CABIN BOY FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE. BUT I ONCE HAD A DIFFERENT DREAM....I REALLY DON'T NEED IT ANYMORE. I BUILT IT TO ESCAPE FROM THIS PLACE..." Luffy stares in surprise as Koby continues, "YOU'RE KINDA CLUMSY AND DUMB! THAT WAS TWO YEARS AGO. IN EXCHANGE FOR MY LIFE, I'VE BEEN WORKING AS THEIR CABIN BOY....AND I BOARDED A PIRATE SHIP BY MISTAKE. I'LL NEVER FORGET THAT FATEFUL DAY... I JUST WANTED TO GO FISHING..." Koby laughs nervously while Luffy questions him. "LUFFY, WHY DID YOU GO TO SEA ANYWAYI BUT YOU'RE RIGHT. I DON'T HAVE THE GUTS TO FLOAT AROUND AT SEA IN A BARREL LIKE YOU... YOU DON'T HAVE TO BE THAT FRANK... AND YOU'RE GUTLESS TOO. YOU REALLY ARE WORTHLESS!"

Luffy grins widely with eyes closed, declaring boldly, "I'M GONNA BE THE KING OF THE PIRATES!!!" A large "SMIRK" effect accompanies his confident pose. Koby reacts in shock, eyes bulging. "BUT... YOU'D HAVE TO MAKE THE WHOLE WORLD KNEEL TO YOU!!! K-KING OF THE PIRATES!!!!I" Luffy lounges back casually as Koby flails in disbelief. "DON'T TELL ME YOU'RE AFTER GOLD ROGER'S LOST TREASURE, 'ONE PIECE'!!!!" Koby shouts, "WEALTH, FAME, POWER-- YOU'D HAVE TO ACHIEVE IT ALL!!!"

Coby stares in disbelief at Luffy, sweat flying as he shouts, "YOU WANT TO BE THE KING OF THE PIRATES IN THE GOLDEN AGE OF PIRACY!I IT'LL NEVER HAPPEN!!" Luffy sits calmly with arms crossed and replies, "EVERY PIRATE IN THE WORLD IS AFTER THAT!! AND SO AM I." Coby panics, "BUT THE ODDS AGAINST YOU ARE ASTRONOMICAL!! IT'S IMPOSSIBLE!!" Later in the woods, Luffy casually bonks Coby on the head with a "KLONK" after Coby asks "W-WHY'D YOU HIT ME!I" Luffy stands tall and declares with fierce determination, "AND IF I DIE TRYING... THEN AT LEAST I TRIED! I'VE SET MYSELF TO BECOME THE KING OF THE PIRATES..." Coby and a background figure gape in shock at Luffy's unbreakable will.

Luffy reacts with surprise, "HUHI" as Coby sniffles and begins to cry, his goggles fogging. Coby's face fills with realization: "I NEVER LOOKED AT IT LIKE THAT BEFORE!!" and "OR AM I JUST DE-LUDING MYSELF... AND I BELIEVE I'LL SUCCEED, TOO." Standing before the seated Coby, Luffy asks, "DO YOU THINK I CAN JOIN THE NAVY!I" Coby bursts into tears with a massive close-up, shouting, "IT'S BEEN MY DREAM SINCE I WAS A LITTLE KID!! WE'LL END UP BEING ENEMIES... BUT I WANT TO JOIN THE NAVY AND FIGHT THE BAD GUYS!!" Luffy smiles widely at the outburst.

Coby clenches his fists with fiery resolve, declaring, "BETTER TO RISK MY LIFE TRYING TO ACHIEVE MY DREAM! I'LL JOIN THE NAVY... AND THEN... I'LL CAPTURE ALVIDA!!" Luffy questions, "HOW WOULD I KNOWI" while Coby worries nearby. Suddenly a massive impact erupts with the giant sound effect "KRESC!!!" Alvida smashes through debris, yelling "WHO ARE YOU GOING TO CAPTURE, RUNT!I" as Coby screams "AAAH!!!" In the background Luffy watches the destruction unfold.

Alvida towers over the wreckage, demanding "WHO IS THE FAIREST THROUGH-OUT ALL THE SEASI" while the crowd watches. Luffy points and asks, "HEY, WHO'S THAT TOUGH-LOOKING OLD BIDDYI" Coby stammers "LADY ALVIDA, YOU--" Alvida swings her massive club with a huge "BWAAA AA" impact, sending debris flying. Luffy yells "LUFFY!! TAKE IT BACK!!" as Coby and others react in terror. Alvida glares menacingly, finishing "THROUGH-OUT ALL OF THE SEAS, LADY ALVIDA IS..."

Luffy's face twists in fury as he roars, "...THE UGLIEST OLD HAG OF ALL!!!" Alvida looms over him, club raised. In a smaller panel Luffy grins through sweat, declaring, "I'M GONNA BE THE KING OF THE PIRATES... AND IF I DIE TRYING... THEN AT LEAST I TRIED!" Koby trembles nearby, whispering, "LADY ALVIDA IS..." Alvida bursts into mocking laughter, "HA HA HA HA HA HA!" while Luffy laughs even harder, "AHAHAHAHA!" She swings her massive iron mace down. Luffy is struck but immediately shouts back, eyes blazing, "I SAID IT AND I WON'T TAKE IT BACK! NO MORE CRINGING FOR ME!! FROM NOW ON, I'LL FIGHT FOR MY DREAMS!" Alvida screams in rage, "YOU LITTLE--!!!" as Koby yelps, "EYAAA!"

Alvida's spiked iron mace crashes into Luffy with a massive "ZONK!!" impact. She yells, "YOU'RE BOTH GOING TO DIE!!" Koby cries out, "L-LUFFY...!" Luffy simply smiles and answers, "GOOD FOR YOU, KOBY!! IT MAKES NO DIFFERENCE TO ME..." Alvida stares in disbelief, shouting, "IMPOSSIBLE! NO ONE SURVIVES THE IRON MACE!!" Luffy grins widely and replies, "'CAUSE I'M MADE OF RUBBER! THAT DIDN'T HURT!" as a big "SMIRK" appears on his face while shocked onlookers react with "!!I"

Luffy stretches his arm back while shouting, "GUM-GUM......PISTOL!" Alvida's eyes widen in shock as she gasps, "WHAT THE--I" Onlookers scream, "YOU'VE GOTTA BE KIDDING!" Luffy's fist rockets forward and slams into Alvida's face with a huge "WOM!!" impact, sending her flying backward amid flying debris and motion lines while the crew stares in stunned silence.

Alvida lies defeated on the deck as her crew panics, shouting, "CAPTAIN!!! HE BEAT LADY ALVIDA! HE'S NOT HUMAN! HIS ARM STRETCHED LIKE RUBBER..." Luffy stands tall in his straw hat and points forward, declaring, "GIVE KOBY A DINGHY! HE'S GONNA JOIN THE NAVY!" Koby stares up at him with tears streaming down his face, whispering, "LUFFY..." Luffy bursts into laughter, "HA HA HA!" while a crewman stammers, "Y-YESSIR..." and the rest of the pirates gape in disbelief.

On the open sea, a small boat sails under clear skies. Luffy sits cross-legged and declares, "THAT MEANS YOU'LL HAVE TO ENTER THE 'GRAND LINE.'" A voice replies, "YEP!" Another warns, "BUT LUFFY, IF YOU'RE GOING AFTER ONE PIECE..." Luffy answers confidently, "YOU MUST HAVE EATEN THE FRUIT OF THE GUM-GUM TREE..." Someone exclaims, "INCREDIBLE!" On the boat, Luffy points excitedly and asks about the name "RORONOA ZOLO!" The bespectacled boy replies, "WHAT'S HIS NAMEI THAT GUY IMPRISONED AT THE NAVY BASE..." Luffy grins and explains, "THAT'S WHY I'M ASSEMBLING A SUPER CREW. THEY CALL IT THE PIRATES' GRAVEYARD..." The boy shouts in shock, "HOW DO YOU KNOW!I" Luffy continues, "NEVER NEVER NEVER! THAT'LL NEVER HAPPEN! THAT GUY'S A DEMONIC BEAST!" The boy protests, "NOW YOU'RE TALKING CRAZY AGAIN!" Luffy smiles broadly and says, "IF HE'S A GOOD GUY, I'LL LET HIM JOIN MY CREW." A narration box reads, "AND SO THE TWO YOUNG ADVENTURERS SAIL ON TOWARDS THE NAVAL BASE AND... DESTINY!"
