Adventure at Ghost Island

The Thousand Sunny sits inside the terrifying walls of Thriller Bark, the chains overhead vanishing into the fog and the castle looming at the center of the ghost island. Chopper stammers, "... WH-WHAT DO YOU MEAN, GHOST ISLAND!?" and asks, "HEY, HEY, WHERE IS THAT GHOST FROM BEFORE!? IS HE STILL ON THE SHIP!?" Zoro answers from the deck, "NO, HE WENT TO THE ISLAND. HE PROBABLY LIVES THERE." Robin recalls the vibration from before: "YOU REMEMBER THAT BIG VIBRATION FROM BEFORE...? IF THAT WAS THE SOUND OF THAT MOUTH-LIKE GATE CLOSING," then points out the shape of the trap. Luffy thinks aloud, "THEN IT MEANS WE WERE PROBABLY EATEN BY THAT MOUTH." Chopper squeaks, "EATEN?" Robin explains that it is hard to see through the fog, "BUT IT SEEMS AS IF THE WALLS ATTACHED TO THAT GATE ARE SURROUNDING THE ISLAND."

Robin lays out their current position like a map: Ghost Island "Thriller Bark," the "Mouth" gate, and the Sunny trapped inside. She says, "--- MEANING, THE SHIP IS CONFINED BY THE WALLS THAT SURROUND THE ISLAND..." Luffy finally understands why Brook told them to get out of there at once: "I SEE... THAT'S WHY THAT SKELETON TOLD US TO GET OUT OF HERE ASAP!!" Nami adds, "THAT MEANS THIS ISLAND IS ARTIFICIALLY WANDERING AROUND AT SEA...!?" Usopp asks, "WHAT FOR...?" Chopper protests, "H-HEY! WHY WOULD YOU WANT TO ANCHOR!? WE'VE GOTTA ESCAPE." Robin says, "IF THE 'ISLAND' KEEPS ON MOVING, WE CANNOT LOWER THE ANCHOR BECAUSE WE'RE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE SEA." Luffy ignores all caution and declares, "ALL RIGHT! TAKE THE SHIP TO THE ISLAND!!" Usopp demands, "DID YOU CONTRACT THE 'ALWAYS READY FOR ADVENTURE' DISEASE OR SOMETHING!?" Luffy replies, "LISTEN, GUYS. I SEEM TO HAVE CONTRACTED THE 'I CAN'T GO ON THE ISLAND' DISEASE." Nami and Chopper instantly claim the same illness: "ME, TOO!! I HAVE IT TOO!!!" while Chopper cries, "GHOSTS ARE SCARY!! GHOSTS ARE SCARY!!"

Luffy insists on heading for the creepy island, while Chopper begs, "HEY, THINK IT OVER, LUFFY!!! LOOK AT IT. THAT CREEPY BUILDING IS A REAL 'HAUNTED HOUSE'!!!" Luffy answers the fear with action: "WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT? I'M TAKING ALL THE NECESSARY MEASURES POSSIBLE." He plans to catch the earlier ghost and feed it, prompting Usopp to yell, "YOU'RE UNDERESTIMATING THE 'EVIL SPIRITS'!!" and "YOU'RE UNDERESTIMATING THIS!!!" Luffy's reason is simple: "ANYWAY, WE HAVE TO GET OUR PRECIOUS NAKAMA BACK." He calls, "SANJI!! GIMME PIRATE BENTO!!" Chopper wails, "OUR NAKAMA... I OBJECT!!!" and imagines Brook as a terrifying bunkmate: "IF THAT SKELETON IS OUR NAKAMA, I'LL BE TOO AFRAID TO SLEEP AT NIGHT!!!" Sanji passes food to Nami and says, "THE BENTO IS READY. LUFFY!! FRANKY!! MAKE SURE TO PROTECT ROBIN-CHAN." Luffy asks, "FRANKY AND ROBIN, YOU'RE GOING TOO!?" Franky grins, "EXPLORING AN UNKNOWN ISLAND SURE IS EXCITING." Robin smiles softly: "I LIKE... THE EXCITEMENT."

Franky reveals another secret of the Thousand Sunny. "GREAT! NOW THEN," he says, "WE'LL BE USING A SMALL BOAT TO LAND." But before that, "THERE'S STILL SOMETHING SPECIAL THAT I HAVEN'T SHOWN YOU GUYS YET." He announces, "THE SOLDIER DOCK SYSTEM: 'CHANNEL 2'!!!" The crew is startled: "!?" and "'2'!?" Franky explains that the system has five channels, with two "0" slots. He reminds Usopp, "YOU SHOWED US THE PADDLE WHEEL OF '0,' '1' AND '3,'" while Usopp notes, "BUT YOU TOLD US '2' AND '4' WERE STILL EMPTY." Franky laughs, "UHA HA HA. THEY'RE SO SPECIAL THAT I KEPT THEM SECRET." Luffy wants to ride before landing: "YOU DON'T WANT TO LAND IN IT? JUST TRY RIDING IT FIRST!!" Franky answers, "BRING IT ON!!" and calls, "SOLDIER DOCK SYSTEM: 'CHANNEL 2'!!!" The mechanism opens with "VEEEEEN," "GAKON...!!" and "GARARARARA..." as Luffy asks, "WHAT, WHAT, WHAT'S GONNA COME OUT!?" Franky shouts, "SET SAIL!! SHOPPING BOAT!!"

From Channel 2 bursts the Mini Merry II, a small paddle steamer shaped like the beloved Going Merry. Luffy, Nami, Usopp, and Chopper cry out with joy: "GYAAAAH, MERRRRY!!!" "WUOOOH!! MERRRY!!" and "MINI MERRY II!!!" Franky proudly explains, "IT'S A 'PADDLE STEAMER' FOR FOUR PEOPLE!!!" Usopp is overwhelmed: "IT'S MERRY! MERRY REINCARNATED AS A BOAT!!!" Nami says, "I NEVER THOUGHT YOU WOULD BE HIDING SUCH A NICE LITTLE PRESENT!!" and thanks him: "THANK YOU, FRANKY!!" Chopper beams, "YAAAY, IT'S SMALL, BUT WE CAN RIDE MERRY AGAIN!!" Zoro calls it "A NICE GESTURE, FRANKY." Luffy immediately wants a turn: "LEMME RIDE IT! HURRY!!" Sanji says, "IF THAT'S OUR SHOPPING BOAT, I DON'T MIND SHOPPING ANY LONGER." Franky tells them, "JUST WAIT A MOMENT. WE'LL RIDE IN IT SOON ENOUGH." Robin adds, "JUST LET THEM HAVE SOME FUN FOR NOW."

Franky opens the full Soldier Dock System and explains each support vehicle. "I SHOWED YOU '1' AND '3' BEFORE, SO NOW ALL THE SYSTEMS ARE READY." Channel 0 is "ASSISTANCE PADDLE WHEEL!!!" Channel 1 is the "ONE PERSON WAVER: 'WHITE WOODEN HORSE I'!!" Channel 2 is the "FOUR PEOPLE SHOPPING BOAT: 'MINI MERRY II'!!" Channel 3 is the "SCOUTING SUBMARINE: 'SHARK SUBMERGE III'!!" Channel 4 remains empty. Franky says, "BUT DEPENDING ON THE NEEDS DURING OUR TRIP, I MIGHT PUT SOME WEAPONS IN IT." For now, "THAT'S IT FOR THE 'SOLDIER DOCK SYSTEM'!!" Each channel can be considered "A SUPPORTING SOLDIER FOR THE 'THOUSAND SUNNY,' OUR MOTHER SHIP." Luffy loves it: "I LOVE THE WAY YOU THINK, FRANKY!!!" Franky poses and shouts, "SUPER!!!" while Sanji complains, "HEY, NAMI-SAN AND THE OTHERS ARE TAKING SO LONG."

Out in the fog, Mini Merry II has already been launched with Nami, Usopp, and Chopper aboard. Suddenly the little boat is dragged toward the island with a violent "GAKON!!" and Nami screams, "KYAAAAAAA AAAAH!!!!" Sanji cries from the Sunny, "NA-NAMI-SAAAN!!?" and "WHA-WHAT'S GOING ON!!?" Robin says, "I CAN'T SEE A THING BECAUSE OF THIS FOG." Luffy calls, "YOU GUUYS!!!" but Robin realizes, "IT CAME FROM THE ISLAND." Usopp yells from the boat, "HEEEEY!!!" and Chopper pleads, "HURRY UP AND LET ME RIDE MERRY!!!" Sanji snaps at Luffy, "WHAT ARE YOU SAYING!!! YOU SHOULD WORRY ABOUT NAMI-SAN!!!" and Nami warns Robin, "AND YOU? YOU SHOULD WORRY ABOUT THE OTHER TWO AS WELL." Robin coolly says, "THAT SCREAM JUST NOW... WERE THEY CURSED OR KILLED BY GHOSTS...?" Nami shouts back, "IF YOU HAVE TIME TO JINX SOME BAD STUFF, LET'S BRING THE SHIP CLOSER."

On the Sunny, the mystery deepens. With a splash and a heavy "GAKO..." the anchor suddenly drops. Sanji and Luffy stare: "EH!?" "THE ANCHOR JUST DROPPED!!!" Yet Zoro says, "NO ONE TOUCHED IT THOUGH!!!" Robin adds, "THERE'S NO WAY THE COG-WHEEL COULD BE LOOSE. IT'S BRAND NEW...!" Zoro decides, "ANYWAY, RAISE THE ANCHOR AGAIN, OR THE SHIP WILL LOSE ITS BALANCE!!" Then the hatch opens by itself. Luffy asks, "...!? HUH? THE HATCH OPENED BY ITSELF!?" and "... DID ANYONE TOUCH IT?" Zoro answers, "NO... NO ONE WAS EVEN NEAR IT." Luffy goes still, murmuring, "HRM?" while the empty deck seems to move around them.

Luffy suddenly stands with his face stretched sideways, making a strange "NNM?" Sanji shouts, "HEY, LUFFY!! WHY ARE YOU JOKING AROUND AT A TIME LIKE THIS!?" Luffy insists through the pulled mouth, "NOH, ISN NOH HAT!!" "I DIDN'T DO ANYTHING!!" Sanji demands, "YOU DIDN'T DO ANYTHING? THEN WHAT'S WITH THAT MOUTH!?" Nami yells from below, "WHY THE HELL ARE YOU FOOLING AROUND!?" Then an animal-like growl cuts through the scene: "GRRR..." and "UWAH!!!" Zoro reacts instantly. Robin says, "AN ANIMAL SOUND...!?" Zoro draws and slashes toward the source with a sharp "SLAH," striking through the air: "HRMM!!?"

Zoro's strike sweeps through Luffy instead. He warns, "WATCH OUT, STRAW-HAT!!" as the blade cuts past with "ZAKU!!!" Luffy yells, "GHEH!!" Sanji rushes over: "HEY!! WHAT ARE YOU DOING!!?" Zoro grimaces, "SORRY!! MY KATANA JUST...!!" Looking at the empty deck, Zoro says, "... IS THERE SOMEONE ELSE... OTHER THAN US... ON THIS DECK...!?" Robin calls the situation "... STRANGE." Sanji wonders, "IS THIS A GHOST'S DOING...? OR IS IT A DEVIL FRUIT USER OR SOMETHING...?" Luffy says, "...!! I DID FEEL SOMETHING TOUCHING ME." Robin connects it with the earlier sound: "... AND I HEARD A BESTIAL HOWL EARLIER." Luffy concludes, "A BEAST!?" while the unseen presence remains unconfirmed.

Sanji decides he cannot wait. "SHIT!! ANYWAY, ALTHOUGH THIS PLACE SURE IS WEIRD, I'M MORE WORRIED ABOUT NAMI-SAN AND THE OTHERS...!!! I'LL LEAVE THE SHIP TO YOU GUYS!!" he says, and launches himself toward the island: "I'M GOING TO THE ISLAND TO SAVE THEM!!!" Almost immediately something goes wrong. Sanji hits or is struck by something with "GASH!!" "GASH!!" and the crew hears him cry, "HOGE EEH!!!" Luffy and the others yell, "EEEH!? HOW LAME!!!" and "UWAH!! SANJI'S FLOATING." Sanji, tumbling helplessly through the air, curses, "WHAT WAS THAT JUST NOW, DAMNIT!!" as Luffy shouts, "HEY, SANJI!!!"

Sanji lands battered back near the others, and Zoro needles him: "YOU SAID 'HOGEEEH'." Sanji snaps, "SHUT UP!!! YOU SHOULD BE IN THIS SITUATION!!!" Zoro thinks aloud, "... THEY DON'T WANT US TO LEAVE THE SHIP...!?" but Sanji says, "I DON'T UNDERSTAND THEIR INTENTION... IF THEY WANT TO KILL US, THEY CAN ATTACK US, OR SOME-THING." Then Robin is seized by something invisible. Her arm snaps up with "FLICK!!" and she cries, "AH!" Sanji shouts, "ROBIN!!!" and asks, "WHAT'S HAPPENING, ROBIN-CHAN!?" She answers, "!!! SOMETHING'S... GRABBING ME!!!" Sanji rages, "DAMN YOU BASTARD, DOING WHATEVER YOU WANT!!?" Luffy hears it again: "I REALLY HEAR A BESTIAL HOWL!!! COULD IT BE BEAST GHOSTS!!?" The Sunny is thrown into the artificial waves with a huge "UWAH!!!"

The ship is battered by the water. Luffy realizes, "WAVES!! ARTIFICIAL WAVES FROM INSIDE THESE WALLS!!" and "THE SHIP'S DRIFTING AWAY!!" Robin recovers and says, "HAA... HAA... I'M FINE, IT DISAPPEARED...!!" Sanji barks, "HEY, 'HOGEEEH,' RAISE THE ANCHOR SO WE CAN CONTROL THE SHIP!!!" Zoro snaps, "DON'T CALL ME HOGEEEH, PUNK!!!" But the Sunny is already being carried away. Franky says, "BUT WE CAN'T LEAVE NAMI-SAN AND THE OTHERS!!!" and Luffy calls, "USOPP, CHOPPER, SAY SOMETHING!!!" Franky tries to use the ship's systems: "HEY, FRANKY, DO SOMETHING WITH THE SHIP'S SECRET WEAPONS!!!" He answers, "ALL RIGHT! WE HAVE THE 'PROJECTING SURPRISE SWIMMING POOL'!" The crew screams, "SOUNDS LIKE FUUUUN! NO WAY YOU IDIOT!!" while the castle of Thriller Bark waits beyond the walls.

Nami, Usopp, and Chopper wake up at the bottom of a deep moat inside the ghost island. Usopp groans, "OOOUCH...!! WHERE ARE WE!? WHAT HAPPENED TO US...!?" Chopper says, "IT'S A MIRACLE WE'RE ALIVE." Nami measures the fall: "6.7 METERS...!! WE FELL FROM UP THERE." She adds, "WE'RE NOW INSIDE THE GHOST ISLAND...!!" Usopp explains that he got too excited with Mini Merry and they suddenly stranded ashore: "DUE TO THE IMPACT, WE WERE ALL THROWN OUT. AND NOW WE'RE AT THE BOTTOM OF A MOAT." Chopper screams, "HIEEEK!!!" and Usopp tells him, "STOP THAT; IT SCARES ME TOO!!" Nami, angry and shaken, says, "IT'S 100% MY FAULT, BUT I'M SO CUTE SO YOU'LL FORGIVE ME, RIGHT?" and threatens, "I COULD HIT YOU RIGHT NOW!!!" Usopp tries to find the good side: "ANYWAY, ISN'T IT WEIRD TO HAVE SUCH A DEEP MOAT RIGHT AT THE EDGE OF AN ISLAND!?" Chopper says maybe it is an enemy trap and they were lucky it was not filled with bamboo spears. Usopp corrects him: "WE WERE SAVED BECAUSE WE LANDED ON THESE SKELETONS." Nami screams again, "STOP THAT!!!"

Still in the moat, Usopp tries to reason out what to do. "BUT WE'RE STILL CLOSE TO THE ENTRANCE, RIGHT?" he says. "SO IF WE STAY HERE, LUFFY AND THE OTHERS WILL SURELY FIND US." Chopper worries, "BUT THIS IS BELOW SEA LEVEL, SO I'M A LITTLE SCARED." Usopp admits the place is "DANGEROUS HERE AND DIFFICULT TO BE SPOTTED," and Nami asks, "HOW ABOUT WE GO BACK TO THE SHORE AND JUST WAIT FOR THEM?" Then something moves in the darkness. Chopper hears "PAKI... PAKI..." and asks, "A DOG?" Usopp asks, "WHICH WAY SHOULD WE TAKE...?" Nami's face freezes: "THAT'S NO DOG...!!" A huge stitched three-headed beast bursts from the rubble, growling "GRRR RR..." and "GARR RR..." The trio realizes too late that this is not a normal animal.

The creature towers over Nami, Usopp, and Chopper. They scream together, "CER-BERUS~~~!?" and then, "C-C-CER... CER-BERUS EXISTS!?" Usopp cries, "OF COURSE, IT'S RIGHT BEHIND US!!" Chopper panics, "THEN WE'RE SURELY IN HELL!!" One head barks "WOW!!" and another "BOW!!" while the middle one howls "KOOOON!!" Nami notices, "ONE OF THEM IS A FOX!!!" but there is no time to study it. Usopp shouts, "IF WE STOP, WE'LL BE EATEN. SO KEEP RUNNING!!!" The monster lunges behind them as they flee through the moat.

Their panic only makes Cerberus angrier. Usopp yells, "YOU MADE IT ANGRY!!!" Chopper hears the change: "HE STARTED TO SAY 'GOOON' INSTEAD!!!" Nami cries, "THAT AGGRAVATED HIM!?" They spot salvation: "A STAIRCASE!!!" and "WE CAN GET TO THE SURFACE LEVEL!!" The trio scrambles up, panting, "HAA" as the three-headed beast prowls below. In the forest above, the creature eventually loses their trail. Chopper says, "THEY'RE GONE FOR NOW..." and Usopp adds, "FOR DOGS, THEIR NOSE DOESN'T SEEM TO WORK THAT WELL." Nami warns, "IF SOMETHING LIKE THAT IS WANDERING AROUND, IT'S PRETTY RISKY TO JUST WAIT SOMEWHERE THAT CAN BE EASILY SPOTTED." Chopper asks, "WHAT SHOULD WE DO? WE'VE GOTTEN A BIT TOO DEEP INTO THIS FOREST..." Usopp answers grimly, "RIGHT YOU ARE."

A shadowed figure appears behind Nami, Usopp, and Chopper. They scream, "GYAAAH!! WHO ARE YOU!?" The figure introduces himself: "I AM... HILDON." He says, "I SAW WILD DOGS CHASING AFTER YOU, SO I THOUGHT YOU MIGHT BE HELPLESS. THAT'S WHY I APPROACHED YOU FROM BEHIND..." He warns, "ONCE THE NIGHT FALLS OVER THIS FOREST, IT'LL CHANGE INTO THE MOST DANGEROUS FOREST YOU COULD EVER IMAGINE..." Then he gestures to a gothic carriage pulled through the woods and says, "IF YOU DON'T MIND... PLEASE JOIN ME ON MY CARRIAGE. WE'LL GO TO MY MANSION..." Chopper, staring at the strange creature, asks, "DOCTOR HOGBACK'S MANSION..." and then reacts in shock: "HOGBACK!!?"
