At Water 7, the Thousand Sunny pulls away from the city while the Marines and townspeople watch from the canals and walls. Some citizens shout after them, "THE PIRATES ARE GONNA GET KEELHAULED RIGHT AFTER SAILING OFF!!" and argue, "HEY, WE SHOULDN'T BE ROOTING FOR THEM." Another calls out, "HANG IN THERE, HERO OF THE CITY!!" On the Sunny, Usopp is relieved: "OH, THANK GOD!!" Ahead, the Straw Hats see that Nami has safely boarded. Luffy says, "IT LOOKS LIKE NOSE BRO MANAGED TO GET ABOARD SAFELY!!" and adds, "THAT'S ALL OF THEM!!! ALL THEY HAVE TO DO NOW IS FLEE FROM THE WARSHIP." As Garp's ship fires, the sea erupts with "BOMBON!!" and the warning follows them: "RUN, STRAW-HATS!!"

On the Marine side, people notice the Sunny changing its sails: "LOOK!! WHAT'S GOING ON!?" "THE PIRATE SHIP IS TAKING IN THE SAILS!!" "ARE THEY GIVING UP!?" Garp, grinning, says, "I DON'T THINK THEY'D GIVE UP... BUT WHAT IS THEIR INTENTION...!?" On deck, the crew panics over the new ship's name. Franky is urged, "HURRY!! TAKE IN THE SAILS!!" and "HEY, YOU SURE, FRANKY!?" The crew shouts conflicting trust and abuse at one another: "STUPID BASTARD!! TRUST IN THE SHIP!!" "THAT'S RIGHT!! TRUST IT, STUPID BASTARD!!" "YOU BASTARD, STUPID BASTARD!!" "YOU BASTARD!!!" "USOPP, UNTIL A SECOND AGO, YOU WERE..." and Nami gives up with "... OH WELL." Luffy tries naming the ship himself: "WHAT!? THE NAME OF THE SHIP!? AT A TIME LIKE THIS!?" Usopp says, "YUP, YOU CAN'T REALLY SAIL OFF WITH A POSITIVE VIBE UNLESS THE SHIP HAS A NAME." Luffy proposes, "LIIIKE, 'SOMETHING LION'?" then, louder, "ALL RIGHT!! I THOUGHT UP A STRONG-SOUNDING NAME!! 'BEAR!! POLAR BEAR!! LION'!!!" The others reject it: "HOW CAN A SHIP HAVE A NAME LIKE THAT!!?" "HOW ABOUT 'TIGER!! WOLF!! LION'?" "QUIT LISTING ALL THOSE ANIMALS!! ARE YOU TRYING TO RECITE A CURSE!?" Luffy keeps scrambling with "SQUID!! OCTOPUS!! CHIMPANZEE..." until someone shouts, "WHAT HAPPENED TO THE LION!!?"

The crew stares at the lion-faced figurehead while Franky smiles with his own idea: "I HAVE SOME SUGGESTIONS OF MY OWN, TOO." He says, "THIS FIGUREHEAD LOOKS GOOD..." Sanji answers, "TOTALLY," and another says, "IT'S A GREAT 'SUN-FLOWER.'" Franky snaps, "THAT'S NOT WHAT IT IS, IDIOTS!!!" When someone calls it a "NICE 'SUN,'" Franky corrects them again: "WRONG, IDIOT!!!" Iceburg calmly explains the sense behind it: "BUT IT'S A SHIP THAT'S DESTINED TO BE SAILED BY THE FUTURE PIRATE KING," and, "A SHIP THAT CROSSES THOUSANDS OF CRUEL SEAS AS A CHEERFUL 'SUN'... IT'S JUST RIGHT FOR THEM." Luffy yells back, "I SAID YOU'VE GOT IT ALL WRONG, BAKABURG!!!" while Iceburg remembers asking Franky, "FRANKY, WHAT DO YOU THINK OF THE NAME... PIRATE SHIP..."

The ship's name is finally declared across the water: "THOUSAND SUNNY"!!! The crew reacts with surprise and delight. Luffy shouts, "WOW!!! THAT SOUNDS REALLY COOL!!!" Chopper echoes, "THAT SOUNDS REALLY COOL!!!" Franky beams at the name while the others compare it to their rejected ideas. Someone says, "IT'S BETTER THAN 'LIONEL THE BOSS'..." Robin says, "A SHIP THAT CROSSES THOUSANDS OF SEAS... SOUNDS WONDERFUL... 'SUNNY,' TOO." Sanji adds, "BETTER THAN MY 'THE DARKNESS'..." and another says, "BETTER THAN MY 'MONSIEUR SUN-FLOWER'..." Franky challenges the others: "ARE YOU NUTS!!?" and "THIS NAME THAT I THOUGHT UP IS YOUR BEST BET!!" Luffy complains, "IT SOUNDS MUCH BETTER THAN THE ONE I WAS ABOUT TO PROPOSE: 'DUMPLING-GORILLA LION'!!" Franky grandly confirms, "LO AND BEHOLD!! THE NAME OF THE SHIP IS..."

The crew accepts the name and the new voyage begins. Luffy says, "LET'S GO WITH ICE-OSSAN'S IDEA!! I LOVE IT!!" Franky throws out one last absurd option, "NEW BATTLE FRANKY-LION GANG CHAMPION!!" but the others answer, "THE 'THOUSAND SUNNY,' GOOD NAME!!" and "AGREED!!" Chopper greets it warmly: "NICE TO MEET YOU, SUNNY!!!" Franky tells the crew, "NOW THAT WE HAVE A FITTING NAME, THE TENSION TO SAIL OFF IS RISING!" and "TAKE A GOOD LOOK AT THIS BEAUTIFUL 'WATER CITY' WHILE YOU CAN!!" Zoro warns, "YOU'LL LOSE SIGHT OF IT IN A BLINK!!" Sanji urges, "YEAH, HURRY UP. WE TOOK IN THE SAILS." The Franky Family shouts from the shore, "AND THE WARSHIP IS ON ITS WAY HERE!!!" Luffy asks Franky, "HEY, FRANKY, WHAT ARE YOU GRUMBLING ABOUT?" and someone yells, "HURRY AND LET'S GET OUTTA HERE WITH YOUR SECRET WEAPON!!" When Luffy hears that, he brightens: "REALLY...? THEN..." and shouts farewell toward the Marine ship: "GRAND-PA!! AND... COBY...!! AND..."

Luffy, grinning at the rail, calls back to the Marines: "I'M GLAD I COULD SEE YOU AGAIN!!! SAY MY NAME, TOO!!" Garp answers by lifting an immense projectile and shouting, "WHAT'S THE MATTER, LUFFY!? STILL HAVE SOME LEFT TO FIRE!!!" Luffy turns calm and confident: "NO USE!!" As the giant shot comes in, he tells them, "WE'LL BE RUNNING AWAY SERIOUSLY NOW!!! UNTIL WE MEET AGAIN!!!" Garp, furious but oddly proud, yells, "IMPERTINENT PUNK, YOU'RE THE SON OF MY CHILD!!! LUFFY!!!" while Koby and Helmeppo beg him to stop: "V-VICE ADMIRAL GARP, WAIT, PLEASE CALM DOWN!!" Koby can only watch Luffy leave and think, "LUFFY-SAN'S SO COOL."

The Sunny glides farther from Water 7, and the Straw Hats yell their thanks back to the city. Luffy calls, "WE'LL GET GOING NOW!!!" and the crew shouts, "GUYS, THANKS FOR EVERYTHING!!!" and "ICE-OSSAN!!! WE TOOK YOUR SUGGESTION!!! THANKS FOR THE GREAT NAME!!!" Onshore, the Franky Family tries to answer through the distance: "SOUNDS LIKE HE'S SAYING SOMETHING!!" "NGAGAGAGAGA." "WE CAN'T EVEN HEAR IT..." "... GEEZ, PIRATES..." "THEY CAN'T EVEN SAIL OFF QUIETLY." Franky prepares the emergency device, announcing, "HERE WE GO!!! AN AMAZING EMERGENCY ACCELERATION DEVICE" and explaining that it was "MADE POSSIBLE WITH A GIANT BLANK SHOT AND TREASURE TREE ADAM'S STRENGTH!!" Usopp panics, "R-RUNNN, LUFFY-SAN!!!" and "Y-YOU'LL BE KILLED!!!"

As Garp prepares another gigantic iron ball, he growls, "DON'T TAKE ME AS A FOOL, OR YOU'LL HURT YOURSELF!!!" Luffy urgently shouts, "FRANKY, START!!!" The iron ball looms over the Sunny, and Usopp screams, "OWAAAH!!! ULTRA GIGANTIC IRON BALL!!! WE'RE DOOMED!!!" At the last instant, Franky fires the ship's device. The Sunny's rear mechanism roars with "VEEEN" and the command rings out: "COUP DE" "BURST"!!! The ship blasts forward in a violent surge, leaving the cannonball and the sea behind.

The Sunny rockets into the air. Marines stare upward and shout, "THE SHIP... FLEW AWAY!!!" The enormous iron ball crashes into the sea where the ship had been, exploding the water with a huge splash. The stunned watchers can only react with "!!!" and "...!!?" On the Marine ship, Koby, Helmeppo, and the others are speechless, but Garp smiles and admits, "THEY'VE DONE IT." The escape is complete.

High above the sea, the Thousand Sunny sails through the sky on its burst of air. The crew cries, "WHUOO-OOOH!!!" Franky explains proudly, "I'VE CONSUMED THREE COKE BARRELS, BUT WE CAN FLY 1 KM WITH THIS!!" Luffy smiles, and Chopper declares, "THIS SHIP CAN DO AS WELL!!" Luffy adds, "THIS SHIP WILL EVEN SURPASS IT ON EVERY POINT!!" Robin says, "THAT SHIP'S BRAVE SPIRIT!!!" and Zoro says, "THIS THOUSAND SUNNY WILL INHERIT WHATEVER YOUR GOING MERRY DID..." Franky, having given them both ship and weapons, says, "IF IT BREAKS, COUNT ON ME. I'LL FIX IT WITHOUT FLAW!!! FOR YOUR SHIP AND WEAPON NEEDS!!!" The crew answers, "FROM THIS DAY ON, THIS IS YOUR SHIP!!!" Back in Water 7, the Marines note, "... THIS ISN'T GOOD. THEY RAN AWAY..." while Garp laughs, "BWAHAHAHAHA... THAT'S MY GRANDSON FOR YA!!!" Kuzan quietly says, "... YES, CERTAINLY. I'VE CONFIRMED IT."

Life in Water 7 resumes around the newly repaired city. Captions describe the water city: "Beautiful underground water overflows at its top," and "and the sound of a workman's hammer resounds." Paulie and his men look at the tower and confirm, "HE'S NOT COMING WITH US AFTER ALL." One of the giants answers, "OF COURSE NOT. BUT I MADE A PROMISE WITH THE KING OF SHARP SHOOTERS THAT THEY'D ALL COME TO ELBAF ONE DAY." The other says, "WE'LL JUST WAIT PATIENTLY FOR THAT DAY... GIANTS' LIVES LAST 300 YEARS..." Elsewhere, workers return to the job. Someone says, "IT WAS A NICE JOB." Another answers, "AGREED. WELL, LET'S GET BACK TO THE REAL WORK!" Along the rhythm of the town's liveliness, they continue to plane and hammer. A foreman tells the group, "LET'S GO BACK TO THE STATION, CHIMNEY, GOMBE," while Chimney trails after him with a small "..."

On the shore, the Franky Family stares after the vanished ship, still trying to understand what just happened. One asks, "NOW, DO YOU REMEMBER... WHAT BRO WAS DOING?" Another says, "NO IDEA." A third admits, "ALL WE DID WAS... WHAT EVER BRO TOLD US TO DO..." Their bravado collapses into comedy as they joke, "WE'LL JUST STARVE TO DEATH THEN!!" and laugh, "GYAHAHAHAHA!!" A caption turns to Iceburg and the city: "Entrusting hope to a smoking steel train" and "and looking back on the island called Water 7, the 'water city.'" Iceburg, arriving by sea train, says, "NMAAA. I KIND OF GUESSED THIS WAS GOING TO HAPPEN..." The Franky Family panics, "WH-WHAT IS IT? WHAT ARE YOU HERE FOR...!?" Iceburg answers, "I'LL GIVE YOU SOME WORK. MAKE SURE ONE OF YOU SHOWS UP AT GALLEY-LA HQ EVERY DAY." They immediately cry, "Y-YOU SURE, ICEBUR- I MEAN...!! BRO!!" and salute him as "NEW BRO!! NEW BRO!!" Iceburg tells them, "... QUIT THAT."

On another Grand Line island, smoke rises over a battlefield. Marines call out, "COMMODORE SMOKER!!" and "THANK YOU FOR GOOD WORK!!" Smoker stands amid defeated pirates, unimpressed. One Marine says, "THAT PIRATE JUST NOW HAD A 50 MILLION BELLI BOUNTY...!? TOO EASY..." Another asks, "WHERE IS THE MARINES' STANDARD GOING TO...!?" Smoker mutters, "... DAY IN DAY OUT, ALL BORING." Tashigi runs toward him, "SMOKER-SAN!! ENSIGN TASHIGI!" She asks whether he has seen the Straw Hats' new wanted posters: "HAVE YOU SEEN THE WANTED POSTERS YET? STRAWHATS GOT..." Smoker snaps at the wrong soldier first, "WHO ARE YOU TALKING TO?" The soldier stammers, "EH!? AH... I... I'M SORRY!!" and Smoker barks, "WEAR YOUR GLASSES, IDIOT!!"

Tashigi explains the reason the Straw Hats' names are spreading: "BECAUSE OF THE INCIDENT AT ENIES LOBBY." Smoker answers with a captain's hard pride: "MARINES ARE MARINES... AS LONG AS THE MARINES ARE AN ORGANIZATION, THERE'S A LIMIT IN KEEPING MY WAY AS A CAPTAIN..." He says what they need now is "STATUS," because "PIRATES ALL OVER THE WORLD STARTED TO RECOGNIZE THE STRAWHAT CREW." He resolves, "I'LL PUT ALL MY PRIDE INTO CRUSHING THEM IN THE 'NEW WORLD'...!!!" The chapter then shifts to Alabasta, the Grand Line kingdom of sand, where Cobra and the others study the new posters. They react to Robin's membership: "NICO ROBIN...!? WHY IS MISS ALL SUNDAY IN LUFFY-KUN'S CREW...!!?" One says, "I KNEW THERE WAS SOMETHING UP WITH THAT MYSTERIOUS WOMAN..." and another worries, "I'M SURE VIVI-SAMA WILL BE SADDENED IF SHE HEARS ABOUT THIS NEWS..."

Vivi, standing with Karoo, has already accepted the news. She smiles and says, "AH, I KNOW ABOUT THAT... BUT I'M OKAY WITH IT." Karoo cries out "QUEE" beside her, while the attendants panic: "OKAY WITH IT!? ... I THOUGHT YOU'D BE THE MOST SHOCKED!!" Vivi answers gently, "... FUFUFU. EVEN WHEN YOU'RE NEXT TO HIM, THERE'S NO TELLING WHAT'S GOING ON IN LUFFY-SAN'S HEAD. ... BUT I CAN TRUST IN WHATEVER THEY DO." Karoo, moved, tears up as someone says, "HE'S ON A DIFFERENT LEVEL THAN US." Another praises Vivi, "...!! HRMMM, HOW GENEROUS YOU ARE!! ... YOU'VE BECOME SUCH A FINE LADY, VIVI-SAMA..." and someone asks, "WAIT, WHY ARE YOU CRYING?" Vivi's faith is simple and complete: "HE'S THE ONE WHO'LL BECOME THE PIRATE KING."

Back on the Thousand Sunny, the crew gathers for a toast beneath the open sky. Luffy begins, "NOW THEN...!! TO ROBIN AND USOPP WHO CAME BACK!! AND TO OUR NEW NAKAMA, FRANKY AND THE PIRATE SHIP THOUSAND SUNNY!!" The mugs rise, and everyone cheers, "CHEERS!!!" Luffy, grinning over the celebration, shouts, "LET'S GO!! NEXT STOP: FISHMAN ISLAND!!!" The captions close the chapter with the new course: "The wind is fair; the crew heads straight for the 'paradise' located at the bottom of the sea!!" The Straw Hats laugh, drink, and sail away as a complete crew aboard their new ship.
