A World Not Worth Living In

On Egghead, the Marines panic after Saint Saturn's arrival. A notice spreads that one of the Five Elders, Saint Saturn, has landed, and rear admirals and captains are ordered to stay behind while all other soldiers retreat from the center. Low-ranking Marines scream that they are not worthy of his presence and wonder how he even got down there. Others say they have only seen portraits of him, ask what that flash of lightning was, and call him above even the "gods" of Mary Geoise. Saturn's presence turns the entire battlefield into a forbidden zone, with ordinary soldiers treating the Gorosei less like a commander and more like something divine and terrifying.

Bonney's blade is still buried in Saturn's body, and the Marines cry out, "Saint Saturn!" and "A Gorosei has been stabbed!" Sanji shouts, "Bonney, what are you doing?!" while the nearby soldiers prepare to fire, calling Saturn a world leader who reigns at the top. Saturn silences them with a cold command: "Quiet down, insects!!" He looks down on Bonney and says that if he did not want to get stabbed, he would have dodged. His reaction makes the wound seem almost meaningless to him. Bonney's furious attack has reached one of the highest authorities in the world, but Saturn responds with contempt rather than fear.

The flashback begins forty-seven years ago in the South Blue's Sorbet Kingdom. A baby boy is born, and people celebrate, saying it is a very large boy and offering congratulations. The government reaches even into hospitals, and a doctor coldly says they will not let information about his blood get out. Kuma's father apologizes and tells his wife to run, explaining that he is the only one with Buccaneer blood running through his veins, but the family's secret has already been exposed. When Kuma asks who that is, his father explains the God of Sunshine, Nika, the name of the legendary warrior passed down among the Buccaneers. He says Nika will one day bring them to the free ocean under the sun, and that he is always laughing. To comfort Kuma, his father dances and drums out the rhythm, "Dum... tata-tata dum," making people laugh. A Celestial Dragon yells that he is too loud and shoots him with a "Bang!" The page shows Kuma losing his father and inheriting Nika as hope at the same moment.

The flashback jumps to thirty-eight years ago in the West Blue. A Celestial Dragon announces a "Population Eradication Tournament" held once every three years and thanks the gathered nobles for waiting. This year's target is a non-World Government-affiliated country named God Valley, a place rich in many resources whose island is shamelessly called the "Valley of the Gods." The announcer says the country is now property of the World Government and that the traditional hunting of humans will change to the hunting of natives. The island's ruler protests, asking whether they are trying to kill his people in a game and calling the land his country, only to be dismissed and attacked.

On God Valley, a young Saint Figarland Garling appears among the Celestial Dragons and God's Knights. Someone says to hold their horses and wait for Saint Garling, while another laughs that he must have gone and killed the king of the natives, costing him minus ten thousand points before the contest even starts. Garling, elegant and armed with a sword, remarks that this should be a good handicap for the other contestants. The announcer adds that this year, in addition to the natives, they will round up problematic slaves. A report then comes in: they have captured the child who escaped, the child of the Buccaneers tribe. The hunt has found young Kuma.

Young Kuma is dragged back and blamed for trying to escape. The guards tell him that if he runs away, the rest of them will die too, because it is a responsibility the ten of them have to take. Nearby, another prisoner laughs and tells them to hold it right there. He says he has heard Buccaneers have giant blood and recognizes Kuma as this year's prize from the Buccaneer tribe. The prisoner introduces himself with bold energy as Emporio Ivankov, declaring that his big brother is pretty big too, while a girl named Ginny eats meat and says, "Only my face!" Ivankov looks at the defeated prisoners and says he is going to live on, asking what about Kuma. The chapter ends with Kuma meeting Ivankov and Ginny in hell.
