On the Thousand Sunny, Perospero looks over the captured ship and admits that the escape has cost his side more than expected: "THINNED OUR FORCES MORE THAN I THOUGHT YOU WOULD, TO BE HONEST." Still, he has Chopper and Brook trapped in candy, and he mocks their hope of taking the ship back. Brook calls, "CHOPPER!" while Chopper struggles and cries, "UWAAA AAAAAA AHHHH!" Perospero only laughs, "FUFUFU. KEEP QUIET." He asks, "WHAT MERRY TRAIN OF THOUGHT LED YOU TO BELIEVE THAT YOU COULD EVER HOPE TO STEAL BACK THIS SHIP FROM US?" Chopper can barely move: "I-I CAN'T... EVEN... TRANSFORM..." Perospero spells out the difference in power: "THERE IS AN OCEAN OF DIFFERENCE BETWEEN OUR STRENGTHS." Brook shouts the only demand that matters: "FREE CHOPPER AT ONCE!"

Perospero explains the candy prison with sadistic pleasure. As Chopper gasps, "GUH-HH!" Perospero says, "THE CANDY WILL COVER YOU ENTIRELY. IT WILL SEEP INSIDE YOUR BODY!" He continues, "IT WILL TAKE YOUR BREATH AWAY! YOU WILL WRITHE IN AGONY!" and then turns the threat into a countdown: "AND IN THREE MINUTES, IT WILL KILL YOU!" Brook screams, "CHOP-PER!" Perospero brings his fingers together and says, "THAT'S ALL IT TAKES! THREE MINUTES, AND MY SWEET SWEET CANDY-MAN CORPSE IS FINISHED!" He even sings, "PERORIN♪" Brook tells him, "I SAID I'D LET THE TWO OF YOU GO!" but Perospero answers from the deck, "HAHAHAHA! IT'S TOO LATE FOR REGRETS AND TEARS! I GAVE YOU A CHOICE!" Then he adds the line that gives the chapter its title: "I'M NO CANDYMAN MYSELF... YOU MUST HAVE THOUGHT ME SWEETER THAN I AM!"

Perospero pushes the cruelty further, shouting from the ship, "AND THIS ISLAND ISN'T THAT SWEET EITHER!" Chopper's friends cry out, "CHOPPE-EEEEEER!" while the candy keeps sealing him. Perospero watches the clock and says, "KUKUKU! START COUNTING THE SECONDS." Another voice calls the trap "PERFECT FOR A BUNCH OF SUGARY PUSHOVERS LIKE YOU TWO." Brook panics, "WAAAH!" while Chopper screams from inside the candy, "WAAAAH! STOP IT! I DON'T WANNA MEET A SWEET END!" Perospero laughs, "AHAHA-HAHAHA! I'LL MAKE CANDYMEN OUT OF YOU AND LIIIICK YOU♡ PERORIN♪" The Sunny remains in enemy hands, and the rescue must now happen before the candy countdown finishes.

Katakuri watches the forest from the ship and quietly calls, "BROTHER PEROS!" Perospero answers, "OI." Katakuri decides the danger has shifted: "MAMA, I TAKE IT." He orders, "WE MUST SEND HER OVER TO PUDDING, ON CACAO ISLAND." Perospero understands the risk at once: "THE MOMENT SHE REALIZES THERE ISN'T ANY CAKE ON THIS SHIP, I'M DONE FOR!" Katakuri, however, says, "I DON'T THINK THAT'S WHAT WE SHOULD BE WORRYING ABOUT..." Big Mom's huge shape bursts through the woods in the distance, still crying for the cake, and Perospero reacts in terror, "HUH?!" The enemy's plan changes because Big Mom herself is almost at the coast, and even her own children are afraid of what she will do when she reaches the Sunny.

Katakuri prepares to trap everyone in the mirror world. He says, "ALL OF YOU, BACK INTO THE MIRROR WORLD. IN A FEW SECONDS, THE LOT OF YOU WILL BE COLLAPSED AT HIS FEET." The soldiers hurry, shouting, "HURRY! GET IN THE MIRROR! JUST IN CASE, RIGHT?" and "THE DRESSER'S OVER HERE!" Then Big Mom smashes out of the forest toward the coast, screaming, "CAAAA AAAAAA AAKE!" Luffy and the others sprint in front of her, and Luffy yells, "IT'S THE COAST! GET ON THE SUNNY!" The remaining Big Mom Pirates realize their assumption was wrong: "SO OUR FORCES WERE THE ONES WIPED OUT BY THAT LIGHTNING BLAST, HUH." Perospero sees the Straw Hats alive and snaps, "SO YOU'RE STILL ALIVE, STRAW HAT!" Luffy looks from the ship to the candy-covered captives and asks, "BROOK?! CHOPPER?! WHAT THE HECK IS GOING ON?!"

Perospero tries to turn the Sunny into a fortress before Luffy can reach it. He praises the crew's persistence, "YOU'VE ALL DONE WELL IN MAKING IT THIS FAR. I'M ABSOLUTELY TOUCHED!" Katakuri judges the situation more coldly: "LOOKS LIKE WE GOT BEATEN TO THE PUNCH BY TROUBLE." Another subordinate calls, "DOGTOOTH! PEROSPERO!" Perospero raises his candy and creates a monstrous barrier, shouting, "CANDY MAIDEN!" The ship is suddenly guarded by a huge spiked candy wall. Nami identifies it at once: "A CANDY WALL!" Luffy charges anyway, starting, "GOMU GOMU NO..." but Perospero warns, "IT'S NO ORDINARY WALL..." The Sunny is visible, but now the crew must break through Perospero's candy construction to reach it.

Perospero presents the Candy Maiden like a killing machine: "AS I'M SURE YOU CAN SEE!" Its spikes and mouth wait in front of the Sunny. The crew splits over how to respond. Jinbe says, "GO AROUND IT! GET TO THE SHIP!" but Luffy refuses, "NO! STRAIGHT THROUGH!" He launches himself into the candy barrier and attacks with "RED HAWK!" Fire erupts around his fist as he punches into the wall. The impact is not only brute force; it also brings flame directly against candy, turning the obstacle's own material into its weakness. Perospero's wall is meant to stop them, but Luffy chooses the shortest route because every second lost brings Big Mom closer.

Luffy's "RED HAWK" hits the candy wall, and Perospero notices the danger immediately: "FLAME?!" The barrier does not simply crack; the fire makes it melt and burst under the force of the strike. The crew cries out through the impact, with shouts like "WAAH!" and "WHOA-!" and Nami screams, "KYAH!" as the molten candy and shockwave tear across the deck area. Luffy and Katakuri lock eyes through the chaos. Katakuri is already close enough to answer Luffy's advance, while Luffy is focused on forcing a path to the Sunny before the ship and his friends are swallowed by Perospero's trap or Big Mom's rage.

Katakuri snaps his own arms forward, stretching and striking in a way that shocks the crew. Carrot says, "THAT GUY'S POWERS... THEY'RE JUST LIKE LUFFY'S!" Big Mom is still bearing down behind them, screaming for the wedding cake, and Nami asks the obvious question: "WHAT DO WE DO, LUFFY?! WE'RE GETTING TRAPPED!" Luffy points the others toward the ship: "WE'LL MANAGE GETTING HER OUT TO SEA!" Jinbe gives the immediate order, "LUFFY! GET DOGTOOTH OFF THE SHIP!" Luffy understands how Katakuri arrived: "GOT IT! HE CAME HERE THROUGH THE MIRROR, RIGHT?" He prepares another attack with "GOMU GOMU NO..." while Katakuri stands between him and control of the Sunny.

Luffy releases "HAWK GATLING!" and drives a storm of fiery punches into Katakuri's mochi-like guard. The attack pounds across the deck, but Katakuri remains composed enough to speak. He turns to Carrot and says, "CARROT. NOT TO TAKE YOU BY SURPRISE OR ANYTHING, BUT... I'VE BEEN THINKING." Carrot answers, "HUH?" as the fighting continues around them. Pedro says, "LUFFY AND HIS FRIENDS MIGHT WELL BE THE ONES OUR PEOPLE AND THE KOZUKI CLAN HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR FOR THE PAST SEVERAL HUNDRED YEARS." Carrot understands the scale of what he means and asks, "FOR HUNDREDS OF YEARS?!" Pedro completes the thought: "THE ONES THAT WILL LEAD THIS WORLD INTO A NEW DAWN!"

The enemies confirm the Straw Hats are still alive. A guard says, "LOOKS LIKE THE STRAW HATS ARE STILL ALIVE." Perospero calls out, "ROGER, BROTHER PEROS!" and gives the order, "OI, MONT D'OR. SURROUND THE COAST WITH BATTLESHIPS." The crew cannot simply sail away as usual because Jinbe warns, "IF WE TRY TO SET SAIL NORMALLY, BIG MOM WILL JUST SINK US!" Nami adds the ship's best option: "THIS SHIP CAN FLY A WHOLE KILOMETER!" Someone calls the technique, "COUP D'... WHATCHAMA-CALLIT?!" Luffy tells Carrot, "CARROT! HELP THEM SET OFF!" and Carrot answers, "OKAY!" But Big Mom has reached the coast and sees the Sunny. She laughs, "MAAAAA MAMAMA! SO THERE IT IS, HUH?!" and then, "I FOUND YOU... HAAA AHAHAHAHA!"

Jinbe tries to wake the trapped pair: "OI, BROOK! CHOPPER! ARE YOU GUYS AWAKE?!" He admits the problem with leaving them, "EVEN IF WE MAKE IT OUT OF HERE, I CAN'T HAVE YOU TWO DIE ON-" but is interrupted by the enemy movements around the coast. A report comes in: "CANDY ISLAND'S TART REPORTING. SIGHTED STRAW HATS OFF THE SOUTH-WESTERN COAST." Another report follows: "NUTS ISLAND'S AMANDE HERE. I'LL CORRAL THEM IN." Big Mom's fleet is closing in from the sea: "WONDERFUL, BATTLESHIPS BY SEA," and Jinbe adds the land threat, "AND BIG MOM BY LAND!" Carrot begins the launch preparation and says, "UMMM... SO THREE BARRELS OF COLA, AND..." while Luffy is hit in the ongoing clash with Katakuri, crying, "OWAGH!"

Perospero answers Luffy's breakthrough with another trap. Candy pours over the water and ship as voices panic: "WHAT THE-?! CANDY?!" and "UWAAAH!" Sanji asks, "WHAT'S THE MATTER?!" Nami realizes the danger: "IT'S BAD, NAMI! THE SHIP'S TRAPPED IN CANDY!" Perospero laughs, "HAAAA-HAHAHAHA! CANDY WEB!" and boasts, "I'M A PERFECTIONIST!" Brook and Chopper can be saved only if the candy user is defeated, so someone shouts, "TURN BROOK AND CHOPPER BACK TO NORMAL, CANDY-GUY!" while another says, "WHAT THE HECK IS WITH THIS CANDY! NOW WE CAN'T USE THE COUP DE BURST!" At sea, the enemy ships close in, and the danger becomes a race: "WILL MAMA TURN THEM INTO PULP FIRST?" or "OR WILL THE CANNONS SINK THEM FIRST?"

Pedro's decision becomes clear. He tells the others, "LISTEN UP, YOU LOT MUST KEEP PUSHING FORWARD!" and insists, "YOU'LL REALIZE ONE DAY. JUST HOW IMPORTANT IT IS TO ENSURE THAT LUFFY AND HIS FRIENDS LIVE AND GET OUT OF HERE." Perospero laughs and asks, "OI, DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA WHAT MY BOUNTY IS? 700 MILLION! AN IDIOT LIKE YOU COULD NEVER-" Pedro moves anyway. Luffy asks, "WHAT DO YOU MEAN, PEDRO?" while Perospero notices the fuse and sneers, "BOMBS? NOT FUNNY. WHAT ARE YOU THINKING-" Pedro answers quietly, "I KNEW FROM THE START. THIS WAS TO BE MY LAST VOYAGE!" Perospero tries to finish the matter, "GOOD RIDDANCE!" but Pedro's explosion erupts across the coast with "PEDROOOOOOO!" and the chapter ends on a sacrifice for the future.
