It is the Golden Age of Piracy. Countless pirates sail the seas, searching for legendary pirate Gold Roger's mysterious treasure, the “One Piece.” Among them is Monkey D. Luffy, who grew up listening to the wild tales of buccaneer “Red-Haired” Shanks and dreaming of becoming a pirate himself. Beside him stands “Red-Haired” Shanks in his dark coat, smiling confidently. A pirate captain. He saved young Luffy's life, losing his own arm in the battle, and taught Luffy a love of the sea.

Buggy's Pirate Crew appears with Mohji, Buggy, and Cabaji gathered around a map. Now Luffy's quest to become the King of the Pirates has begun. He's found an unlikely friend and crewmate in the fearsome pirate hunter Zoro. But Luffy and Zoro are separated and run afoul of the ruthless pirate Captain Buggy and his gang. Meanwhile, Luffy meets Nami the thief, who specializes in robbing pirates. With an untrustworthy thief at his side and enraged pirates on his tail, Luffy's career on the high seas is already in big trouble. And he's about to learn the terrible secret of Captain Buggy's success... Roronoa Zoro stands with swords at his side, labeled “Roronoa Zolo.” Although he's won fame as a pirate hunter, his true dream is to become the world's greatest swordsman. Nami smiles in her striped shirt, labeled “Nami.” A freelance thief who targets pirates for her robberies.
