PUFFING TOM

Narration boxes explain that in order to give Luffy and Robin plenty of rest, the Going Merry stayed in Long Ring Long Land for another four days before setting sail. It is now the morning of the third day after they left. The climate is described as sunny and spring-like, though sometimes slightly summer-ish. On the deck of the ship, Nami relaxes on a lounge chair in a striped bikini, stretching her arms and remarking, "MM... THE WEATHER IS NICE TODAY!" Sanji approaches her, holding a plate of food. He presents it to her, saying, "MY NEWEST INVENTION. THIS IS THE POTATO PAILLE, WOULD YOU LIKE TO TRY SOME?" In the background, Sanji is also seen swooning with heart shapes, calling out "NA~~~MI" affectionately.

Nami takes a bite of the food and smiles, saying, "MM... DELICIOUS." Sanji swoons dramatically in the background, exclaiming, "I CAN DIE HAPPY!!!" This wakes up Zoro, who is trying to sleep nearby. Zoro yells angrily, "SHUT UP, BASTARD! I'M TRYING TO SLEEP!!" Sanji casually replies, "YES, YES. I'M SORRY FOR WAKING YOU UP, MR. CACTUS." Zoro retorts, "WHAT'S THAT, DARTBOARD!?" Meanwhile, Usopp is looking through binoculars and shouts, "YAHOO!! TA-DA---!!!" Suddenly, the door bursts open and Luffy runs out, completely covered in frost and shivering violently. He yells, "THE FROZEN ME!!" Chopper and Usopp react in absolute shock, their eyes popping out. Chopper screams, "D...! WHAT WAS THAT!?" while Usopp yells, "DARTBOARD EYEBROW." and "WHAT!?" They both cry out, "LUFFY! LUFFY!"

Luffy bursts into laughter, "PUH! HAHAHAHA!!!" shaking off the frost. Chopper and Usopp angrily beat him up for scaring them, yelling, "YOU ALMOST DIED FROM THAT... HOW CAN YOU JOKE ABOUT IT!?" Luffy continues to laugh, asking, "HUHAHAHA. DID IT LOOK REAL!?" Usopp then notices Nami eating and asks, "EH? NAMI! WHAT ARE YOU EATING!?" Chopper adds, "IT WAS IDENTICAL, LUFFY!" Nami ignores them, simply saying, "--- HMPH..." as she continues to eat. Usopp and Chopper try to figure out what she's eating, with Nami saying "PAILLE", Usopp adding "WITH POTATO.", and Chopper asking "POTATO?". Luffy suddenly shouts, "HEY, SANJI. I'M HUNGRY, TOO!!" Zoro, still annoyed, asks Sanji, "IS SLEEPING ALL YOU DO AROUND HERE?" Sanji glares back, replying, "I SLEEP WHENEVER I WANT. ARE YOU TRYING TO PICK A FIGHT!?"

Robin steps out onto the deck, looking fully recovered. Chopper happily asks her, "ROBIN, HOW'RE YOU FEELING? DO YOU FEEL COLD?" Robin smiles warmly and replies, "THANKS TO YOU... I FEEL GREAT NOW... THANKS, DOCTOR." Sanji immediately swoons over her, offering, "ROBIN, I'LL MAKE YOU SOMETHING WARM. WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE?" Nami advises Robin, "OK. BUT DON'T PUSH YOURSELF. YOU SHOULD REST MORE." Robin looks over at Luffy, who is dancing around energetically with chopsticks in his nose, and says, "EVEN THOUGH YOU TWO SUFFERED THE SAME INJURY, DON'T FEEL OBLIGATED TO GET-UP... JUST BECAUSE THIS GUY IS BEING SO LIVELY." Chopper dances along with Luffy, denying it, "NO, I DON'T! IDIOT!" while someone notes, "YOU LOOK HAPPY."

Sanji happily pours a cup of coffee, saying, "OF COURSE <3" as Robin requests, "UM... MAY I HAVE A CUP OF COFFEE?" Meanwhile, Luffy, Usopp, and Chopper are sitting on the deck, eating from bowls. Luffy happily munches, saying, "PAILLE? YUM!!" Chopper asks, "WHAT'S PAILLE?" Usopp boasts, "IT'S THE MEAT FROM THE TAIL OF THE GIANT-MONSTER PAILLE!! I KILLED IT. ITS BODY WAS 100M LONG!!" Chopper is amazed, exclaiming, "100M!! THAT'S AMAZING, USOPP!!" Usopp acts humble, "IT WAS NOTHING. I HADN'T EVEN EATEN BREAKFAST..." Chopper asks, "YOU WOKE UP EARLY TO KILL IT?" Usopp proudly declares, "THAT'S RIGHT!! I AM THE GREAT CAPTAIN~~~" Chopper then asks, "CHOPPER, DO YOU REMEMBER WHAT MY TITLE IS?" and stammers, "EH...? CA... CAPTAIN..." Suddenly, Zoro, who is looking out at the sea, notices something and says, "......HN?? WHAT IS THAT..."

In the ocean, a massive frog covered in scars is swimming rapidly using the freestyle stroke. Zoro looks on in confusion, "HM?" Luffy is shocked, yelling, "IT'S A FROG!! A GIANT FROG...!!" Usopp points out, "IT'S SWIMMING IN FREE STYLE!!!" Luffy wonders, "I WONDER WHERE HE'S GOING IN SUCH A HURRY!!?" Usopp sweatdrops, "DUDE... LUFFY, FROGS DON'T SWIM IN FREE STYLE..." Chopper is amazed, "AH! IT DOES!!?" Sanji immediately commands, "TAKE OUT THE PADDLES!!!" Usopp repeats, "A FROG SWIMMING IN FREE STYLE..." Sanji yells, "EVERYONE, LET'S CATCH HIM!!" Luffy enthusiastically agrees, "FULL SPEED AHEAD!!! 2 O'CLOCK!! HURRY!!" Nami is confused by the sudden change in course, asking, "HEY!! WHY ARE WE CHANGING DIRECTION!!?" Chopper explains, "UM... NAMI, WE FOUND A HUGE FROG WITH SCARS ALL OVER HIS BODY!" Sanji declares, "WE HAVE TO CATCH HIM FOR BBQ NO MATTER WHAT!!!" Nami is appalled, "YOU'RE GOING TO EAT IT!?"

Nami looks through her binoculars and spots something in the distance. "HN? IS THAT... A LIGHT TOWER...!?" she asks. She wonders aloud, "WHY IS THERE A LIGHT TOWER IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE..." Robin ponders, "I WONDER WHO LIVES THERE..." Nami asks Sanji, "DID YOU FIND AN ISLAND!?" Sanji replies, "NO, JUST A LIGHT TOWER!" Nami is confused, "BUT THE GUIDE POST ISN'T POINTING TO IT..." Luffy, entirely focused on the frog, yells, "WHAT ABOUT THE FROG? TELL ME WHERE IT IS!? NO WAY!!!" Robin observes, "THE FROG IS GOING IN THE DIRECTION OF THE TOWER AS WELL." Sanji is already planning the meal, "FIRST YOU WASH THE FROG WITH WHITE WINE. THEN YOU COAT IT WITH FLOUR AND FRY IT." Chopper panics, "WAIT, ROBIN!! SANJI!!" Luffy commands, "FULL SPEED AHEAD!!!" Usopp agrees, "OH!!" Nami yells at them all, "WHAT IS WRONG WITH ALL OF YOU!!?"

Sanji suddenly notices something and calls out, "AH!? HEY! HOLD UP, EVERYONE!!" Chopper asks, "DO YOU HEAR A STRANGE NOISE...?" The giant frog stops swimming and lets out a loud "GEROH!!" Usopp points out, "OH! THE FROG STOPPED!!" Zoro looks ahead and asks, "EH!? WHAT IS THAT!?" Luffy is still eager, "LET'S GET HIM!!" A loud, rhythmic "KANKANKAN" sound begins to echo across the water. Chopper is startled, "EH!?" Usopp looks ahead in panic, "WOW!! SOMETHING IS UP AHEAD!!" Luffy asks, "WHAT?" Usopp screams, "BACK!! BACK!! TURN 180 DEGREE!!!" The giant frog remains in the water, facing whatever is approaching.

A massive, black steam train with gold trim comes roaring across the surface of the ocean, blowing thick clouds of smoke from its chimney. It is heading straight towards the Going Merry. The train is incredibly detailed, with large wheels churning the water and passenger cars trailing behind. On the deck of the Going Merry, Chopper can be seen screaming in absolute terror, "WAAAAAH!!!" as the colossal machine bears down on them.

The steam train rushes past the Going Merry at incredible speed, narrowly missing the ship. A series of close-up panels show the terrified and shocked faces of the crew as the massive machine roars by. Usopp, Luffy, and Zoro are shown screaming with their eyes wide and jaws dropped. Sanji braces himself against the wind, while Chopper screams in terror. Nami and Robin look on in stunned disbelief as the train's large wheels and passenger cars speed past them, churning up the sea.

As the train passes, the crew continues to scream, "WAAAAAAH!!!" Chopper asks in disbelief, "WHAT WAS THAT!!?" The giant frog is still in the water, directly in the path of the speeding train, yelling "GEROH!!" Luffy shouts at the frog, "AH! HEY! FROG, GET OUT OF THERE!! WHAT ARE YOU DOING!!?" Nami is bewildered, asking, "WHAT'S THAT BIG METALLIC THING!?" Sanji questions, "A SHIP!!?" Nami argues, "NO... WITH ITS SHAPE... IT SHOULDN'T BE ABLE TO SAIL ON THE SEA!!" The giant frog stands its ground, opening its mouth wide and roaring "GEROH!!!" at the approaching train.

The steam train collides head-on with the giant frog. A loud "BOOM" sound effect accompanies the impact. The massive frog is sent flying high into the air, spinning out of control. On the Going Merry, Usopp and Luffy watch in shock, screaming, "WAAH!! HE GOT HIT!!" The train continues on its path unhindered, speeding along the tracks that are just beneath the surface of the water, heading towards the light tower station in the distance.

The train arrives at the light tower station, passing under a large archway. The Going Merry approaches the station. Luffy observes, "THAT SHIP WAS BLOWING SMOKE..." On the station platform, a little girl named Chimney and her pet rabbit/cat Gonbe are running frantically. Chimney yells, "IT'S TERRIBLE!! GRANNY! GRANNY!!! PIRATES!!" A large, older woman named Kokoro emerges from the building, holding a bottle. She says, "WHAT!? REALLY, CHIMNIE!!? ALRIGHT! HOLD ON!!" Zoro notices her, "SOMEONE CAME OUT OF THE BUILDING...!!" Nami assumes, "SHE IS CALLING FOR REINFORCEMENT..." Sanji reacts, "AH.. HEY!!?" Kokoro takes a drink and burps, then asks, "HM...!! WHAT WERE YOU YELLING ABOUT? I FORGOT. *BURP*" Chimney yells at her, "YOU'RE TOO DAMN DRUNK!!!"

Kokoro sits on a chair, laughing heartily with a bottle of rum in her hand. "I THOUGHT YOU WERE TRAIN ROBBERS. KAKAKAKA!!" she says. A text box identifies her as "SHIFT STATION STATION MASTER KOKORO". Beside her stands Chimney, eating a snack, who introduces herself, "I'M CHIMNIE!! THIS IS GONBE, THE CAT." A text box identifies her as "KOKORO'S GRANDDAUGHTER CHIMNIE". Gonbe, who looks like a rabbit, makes a sound, and a text box clarifies "CAT (ACTUALLY A RABBIT) GONBE". Chimney points to Kokoro, "THAT'S MY GRANNY, KOKORO!" Chimney then offers some of her snack, "THIS TASTES GREAT WITH RUM. PAILLE? HM..." Sanji and Nami are enjoying the food, with Nami saying, "WOW~~ DE-LI-CIOUS!!!" Luffy introduces himself, "I AM LUFFY. I'M GOING TO BE THE PIRATE KING." Kokoro replies, "REALLY!? YUP. HIKAKAKA... YOU'RE FUNNY." Nami asks Kokoro, "UM... CHIMNIE, THAT WAS A STEAM-POWERED BOAT. RIGHT? BUT WITH ITS SHAPE, HOW WAS IT ABLE TO FLOAT..."

Chimney excitedly explains, "IT'S A STEAM-POWERED CAR THAT MOVES ON THE RAILROAD IN THE SEA!!" Nami is surprised, "YOU'VE NEVER SEEN IT BEFORE!?" Kokoro adds, "I GUESS YOU DON'T SEE THAT ANYWHERE ELSE IN THE WORLD! THAT'S A SEA TRAIN. ITS NAME IS PUFFING TOM." Nami repeats, "PUFFING TOM?" Sanji is shocked, "A RAILROAD!?" Kokoro confirms, "YEAH! IT'S JUST BENEATH THE SURFACE OF THE WATER. THE TRAIN MOVES FROM ISLANDS TO ISLANDS EVERY DAY, TRANSPORTING PASSENGERS BETWEEN ISLANDS." She continues, "SOMETIMES IT TRANSPORTS MAILS AND PACKAGES, TOO." Chopper is amazed, "WOW! THERE REALLY IS A RAILROAD!!" Kokoro scolds them, "YES! AND YOU SAILED RIGHT ONTO THE RAILROAD!! THAT WAS DANGEROUS!!" Luffy complains, "BUT NO MATTER HOW YOU WARN, THE FROG WON'T UNDERSTAND!! THEN YOU RAM IT FLYING!! THAT WAS RUDE!! PLUS, HE WAS OUR PREY..." Kokoro explains, "AH... HIS NAME IS YOKOZUNA. HE HAS BEEN A NUISANCE FOR A LONG TIME! HE LIKES TO COMPETE HIS STRENGTH WITH OTHERS, AND HE HAS BEEN TRYING TO BEAT THE TRAIN... HE WON'T DIE FROM A CRASH LIKE THAT. HE WILL COME BACK AGAIN!"

Luffy is impressed by the frog's determination, "COMPETE!? OH... SO THAT'S WHY HE DIDN'T RUN AWAY!! THAT'S SOME VERY COOL FIGHTING SPIRIT!!!" Kokoro disagrees, "WHAT!? HE CAUSES NOTHING BUT HEADACHE! HE BROKE THE FRONT OF THE TRAIN SO MANY TIMES ALREADY! EVERY TIME HE TRIES IT, HE FRIGHTENS THE PASSENGERS, TOO!!" Luffy decides, "IS THAT SO... OKAY!! I WON'T EAT HIM!! YOU SHOULDN'T BE EATING FROGS IN THE FIRST PLACE!" Sanji asks Kokoro, "SO... WHERE DO YOU WANT TO GO? IF YOU TAKE THE NEXT TRAIN..." Kokoro lists the destinations, "YOU CAN GO TO THE 'CITY OF THE QUEEN OF SPRING,' SENTO POPURA, 'CITY OF CUISINE,' POOCHI, THEN THE 'CITY OF CARNIVORE' SUN FARUTO. ALL OF THEM ARE VERY INTERESTING PLACES. IF YOU ARE A GOVERNMENT OFFICIAL, YOU CAN TAKE A SPECIAL TRAIN, TOO..." Luffy is immediately interested, "EEEH!!? CITY OF CUISINE!!?" Nami shuts him down, "DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT IT. WE HAVE A SHIP SO WE CAN'T TAKE A TRAIN. WE HAVE TO FOLLOW THE GUIDE POST." Kokoro asks, "OH? WHERE IS YOUR GUIDE POST POINTING?" Nami replies, "TO THE WEST."

Kokoro realizes their destination, "OH. THEN YOU ARE GOING TO 'WATER SEVEN.' THE TRAIN YOU SAW ACTUALLY CAME FROM THE BLUE STATION THERE! THAT PLACE IS TRUE TO ITS NICKNAME, THE 'CITY OF WATER.' IT IS A CITY WITH THE WORLD'S BEST SHIP FACTORIES!!" She continues, "THE SHIPS THAT THEY MAKE ARE TRUSTED BY EVEN THE WORLD GOVERNMENT!! OOH! SO THEN THERE ARE GOOD SHIP MECHANICS THERE, RIGHT!!? HNKAKA-KAKA!! NOT JUST GOOD! THAT PLACE IS WHERE YOU'LL FIND THE WORLD'S BEST CARPENTERS!!!" Usopp is excited, "YEAH!!" Luffy calls out, "USOPP!!" With a huge, determined smile, Luffy declares, "... ALRIGHT! IT'S DECIDED!! WE'RE GOING TO GO THERE... AND FIND A CARPENTER TO BE OUR FRIEND!!"
