Up in the Sky

Luffy is shown in extreme distress, gasping desperately for air. His head is thrown back, mouth wide open, as he struggles to inhale. He wheezes, 'BREATHE...!!!...!!!...CAN'T...!'. Unable to catch his breath, he collapses backward onto the wooden deck of the Going Merry. He hits the ground hard, his cheeks puffed out, and finally lets out a massive exhale, 'PWAHH!!!!', as he lies on his back, completely exhausted.

A wide shot shows the turbulent blue sea. In the far distance, the massive Knock-Up Stream towers into the sky, connecting the ocean to the clouds above. In the foreground, the Blackbeard Pirates' large log raft has been completely destroyed by the violent waves, broken into pieces and sinking. Despite the destruction of their ship, Marshall D. Teach (Blackbeard) throws his head back and laughs uproariously, his mouth wide open, 'ZEHAHAHAHAHA!!!'. An off-screen voice yells in frustration, 'WE LOST!! THEY GOT AWAY!!!'.

On the wreckage of their raft, the Blackbeard Pirates discuss their situation. Jesus Burgess yells angrily, 'DON'T SAY IT LIKE IT DOESN'T MATTER. OUR PREY JUST GOT AWAY! THINK OF SOMETHING, CAPTAIN!!! HURRY, CHASE THEM DOWN AND BUST THEM UP!'. Doc Q, looking sickly, coughs weakly, '*COUGH*...!!! THOSE GUYS... ARE LUCKY.' Van Augur adjusts his glasses and speaks calmly, 'EXACTLY. SINCE THIS WORLD... MAKES ALL WHO ARE ON THE PATH TO BECOME STRONG.... MEET EACH OTHER. JUST LIKE A GIANT GEAR.' Blackbeard grins confidently, 'ZEHAHA, QUIT WORRYING, BURGESS... IT'S NOT LIKE THEY'RE GONE FOREVER. WE'LL MEET AGAIN SOON, AS LONG AS THEY STAY ON THE GRAND LINE!!! ZEHAHAHAHA... RIGHT!? YOU'LL SEE.' Burgess grunts in frustration, '...!! DAMN!!', while Doc Q continues to cough, '*COUGH*!!!... YEAH...'.

The Going Merry lands with a heavy splash on a sea made entirely of dense white clouds. On the deck, the crew is struggling to breathe in the thin atmosphere. Usopp lies on his back, coughing violently, '*COUGH*--...*COUGH*... *COUGH* HAH!!'. Sanji clutches his chest, wheezing, '*COUGH*...GU... HAH...HAH... HAH...'. Nami leans over, gasping for breath, '*COUGH* HAA... HAA...!!'. Luffy, however, quickly recovers and looks over the side of the ship, his eyes wide with amazement. 'HEY, LOOK YOU GUYS!! OUTSIDE THE SHIP!!! HEY!!!', he shouts enthusiastically. Robin pants heavily, sweat dripping down her face, 'HAA HAA...'. Zoro, also sweating and looking disoriented, asks, '...!! DAMN... WHAT HAPPENED? PHU--... IS EVERYONE ALRIGHT..?'.

A breathtaking wide shot reveals the Going Merry floating on an endless, fluffy white sea of clouds that stretches to the horizon. Luffy marvels at the sight, 'IT'S SOOO WHITE!!......WHAT IS THIS PLACE!!?'. On the deck, panic ensues among the crew. Chopper cries out in alarm, 'WHAT!!? THINK OF SOMETHING! DO CPR!'. Sanji yells urgently, 'THIS IS BAD, USOPP ISN'T BREATHING!!!'. Zoro mutters, 'IDIOT...'. Sanji immediately pivots, declaring, 'OKAY. I'LL DO CPR ON NAMI-SAN!', to which Chopper angrily replies, 'NO, THAT'S IMPOSSIBLE!!'. Luffy, looking over the rail, states the obvious, 'OF COURSE WE CAN SAIL ON TOP OF IT!! THEY'RE JUST CLOUDS.' Nami, bewildered by the situation, asks, 'ON TOP OF THE CLOUDS...!! HOW ARE WE SAILING ON CLOUDS...!!?'. Zoro is equally confused, 'CLOUDS...!?'.

Nami realizes the truth of their situation, her face serious: '--IN OTHER WORDS, THIS... IS THE "SEA OF THE SKY"!!'. Chopper asks nervously, 'WE NEED TO GO HIGHER...?'. Zoro wonders, 'HOW...??'. Sanji admits, 'I HAVE NO IDEA.', and Zoro adds, 'I FORGET.'. Robin suggests calmly, '--MAYBE THIS IS ONLY THE MIDDLE PART OF THE "MILLENNIUM CUMULONIMBUS"...'. Nami points out a crucial detail, 'BUT LOOK, THE "LOG POSE" IS STILL POINTING UP!!'. Sanji gets annoyed at Zoro, 'HEY, DID YOU JUST CALL ME AN IDIOT?'. Suddenly, Usopp recovers, strips down to his underwear, and laughs heartily, 'A SEA IS A SEA! HAHAHAHA!!'. Sanji yells at him, 'HEY, HEY, HEY! DON'T FOOL AROUND. WE STILL DON'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THIS SEA!!'. Luffy cheers him on, 'OH! GO, GO!!'. Usopp declares boldly, 'FOR MY FIRST BIG COURSE--!!! CAPTAIN USOPP WILL SWIM--!!!', and dives headfirst off the ship into the clouds.

Usopp swims through the cloud sea, finding the sensation strange. 'WAH...!! THERE'S SO LITTLE RESISTANCE...!!', he thinks as he paddles. 'ALSO...IT'S TOO BLURRY. I CAN BARELY SEE ANYTHING. OOOH, I CAN DIVE DEEPER AND DEEPER.' He continues to descend into the white abyss. Back on the ship, the crew waits anxiously. Chopper notes nervously, 'HE'S...STILL NOT BACK...'. Robin calmly poses a terrifying question, 'JUST A THOUGHT, BUT...IS THERE REALLY......A SEA FLOOR?'. Chopper reacts with pure horror, his eyes bulging, 'YOU MEAN...!!'.

Panic sets in on the Going Merry. Sanji yells angrily, 'I TOLD THAT IDIOT NOT TO FOOL AROUND!!'. Chopper screams over the railing, 'USOPP--!!!'. Luffy stretches his arm deep down into the clouds, shouting, 'DID THAT IDIOT FALL OFF THE CLOUD!!?'. Robin instructs him, 'EXTEND YOUR ARM AS FAR AS YOU CAN!!'. Luffy struggles, 'BUT I CAN'T SEE IF I ONLY RELY ON MY TOUCH...!!!'. Robin crosses her arms and uses her Devil Fruit power, 'DON'T WORRY, I'LL HANDLE IT!! "OJOS FLEUR"!!*'. An eye sprouts on the palm of Luffy's stretched hand deep within the clouds, looking around for Usopp. A note explains: '*NOTE: SPANISH/FRENCH - EYES FLOWER'.

Through the eye sprouted on Luffy's hand, Robin spots Usopp falling deeper into the white abyss. Chopper asks anxiously, 'WHERE!!?'. Sanji exclaims, 'EH!?'. Robin says confidently, 'THERE HE IS!!! OK!! PULL HIM UP!! "SEIS FLEUR"!!!*'. Six arms sprout from Luffy's stretched arm, grabbing onto Usopp's flailing body to secure him. A note explains: '*NOTE: SPANISH/FRENCH - SIX FLOWERS'.

Luffy strains to pull his arm back up, gritting his teeth with effort, 'FUNNN KIGI-GIGI... WAH!? OOP.'. Chopper cheers him on, 'LUFFY!! YOU CAN DO IT!!!'. Nami smiles in relief, 'YOU DID IT!! YOU PULLED...'. Suddenly, her expression turns to horror as she screams, 'OOOO OH!!'. A massive, grotesque octopus-like creature bursts out of the clouds right behind Usopp as he is pulled up. Sanji yells in alarm, 'SOMETHING FOLLOWED HIM!!!'. Chopper panics, 'YAAAAAH!!! THEY WANT TO EAT USOPP!!!'.

Zoro leaps into action, drawing his swords and slicing through the giant octopus mid-air. '--NOTHING TO BE SCARED ABOUT!!! KAH...!!', he says confidently. Usopp and Chopper, still terrified, scream, 'WAAAAAAAAAH!!!'. As Zoro cuts it, the massive creature suddenly deflates like a popped balloon with a loud '*POP*...', shrinking rapidly and losing its shape. Luffy watches the bizarre event unfold in confusion, 'HUH!!?'.

The deflated octopus lands on the deck. Sanji pokes it with his foot, 'OH, THIS A WEIRD LOOKING ANIMAL.'. Zoro sheathes his sword, 'I WONDER IF THIS IS CONSIDERED A FISH... KI...N!'. Nami observes, 'LOOKS LIKE IT'S BETTER TO THINK OF THIS PLACE AS AN OCEAN RATHER THAN A CLOUD.'. Luffy concludes, 'SO THERE ARE ANIMALS IN THE CLOUDS...'. Sanji adds, 'IT'S STILL AN ANIMAL. IT WAS MOVING...'. Zoro notes, 'THAT OCTOPUS WAS LIKE A BALLOON...'. Suddenly, a strange, flat fish flops onto the deck. Luffy asks, 'WHAT'S THIS FLAT SNAKE?'. Sanji replies, 'IT'S A FLATFISH BECAUSE IT'S FLAT.'. Luffy is confused, 'SO THIS IS A FLATFISH...?'. Robin looks at Usopp, who is trembling on the deck, 'SUCH A TOUGH DAY FOR HIM.'. Chopper cries, 'USOPP--!!! SKY ISLAND SO SCARY. SKY ISLAND SO SCARY.'. Usopp points to his pants, where the flat fish had apparently been hiding, 'MY PANTS... THIS WAS IN MY PANTS...'. Sanji yells at him, 'SO NOISY! WHAT IS IT THIS TIME, USOPP!!!'. Usopp screams, 'GI-YAAAAA AAAAH!'.

Robin holds the flat fish, examining it closely. 'THEN...THIS WOULD BE A "SKY FISH"? IT'S THE STRANGE CREATURE DESCRIBED IN NORLAND'S DIARY. --I THINK BECAUSE THERE IS NO SEA FLOOR IN THIS SKY OCEAN, THEY MUST'VE EVOLVED INTO VARIOUS FORMS IN ORDER TO SURVIVE.' Sanji agrees, 'YES, ALL TO MAKE THEMSELVES LIGHTER BECAUSE THE BUOYANT FORCE HERE IS MUCH WEAKER THAN SEA WATER.' Nami notes, 'THEIR SCALES LOOK LIKE FEATHERS... BUT THE CARNIVOROUS MOUTH IS WEIRD.' Zoro summarizes, '--SO SOME BECAME FLAT AND SOME BECAME LIKE BALLOONS?'. Meanwhile, Luffy is already eating the cooked fish, 'THIS IS YUMMY!!!'. Sanji says, 'I SAUTÉED IT.'. Usopp yells angrily, 'WE WEREN'T DONE WITH IT YET!!!'. Chopper eats some too, 'AH! IT TASTES REALLY NICE--!!! I'VE NEVER EXPERIENCED THIS FLAVOR! THAT'S IT! COOK THAT BIG GUY, TOO! WHERE'S SKY ISLAND?'. Usopp looks through binoculars and spots something, 'OH! A SHIP...'. Luffy calls out, 'HEY-- EVERYONE!! THERE IS A SHIP AND... A PERSON?'.

Chopper looks through the binoculars, his expression turning to confusion and panic. 'HEY, WHAT IS IT, CHOPPER? EH...!? WHAT...!! EH...? CHOPPER, A SHIP? A SHIP IS OVER THERE!? NO...UM, THERE WAS A SHIP... BUT THE SHIP ISN'T THERE ANYMORE!! WHAT DO YOU MEAN!? WAH YAH!!! THERE'S A BULL RUNNING ON A RECTANGULAR CLOUD. IT'S CHARGING FROM OVER THERE... THIS IS BAD--!!!'. Sanji looks at Chopper, not understanding his panicked rambling, 'WHAT'S HE TRYIN' TO SAY? I DON'T GET IT. CALM DOWN!!'. In the distance, a masked figure riding a waver (which looks like a small boat or board) speeds across the clouds towards the Going Merry.

The masked figure, Wyper, approaches rapidly on his waver, sliding effortlessly across the cloud sea. Nami spots him, 'A HUMAN!? SOMEONE'S COMING!! IT'S RUNNING ON THE CLOUD!!!'. Wyper leaps from his waver onto the Going Merry's railing. Sanji steps forward, 'HEY, STOP. WHAT'S YOUR PROBLEM!!'. Luffy is confused, 'HUH? WHAT?'. Zoro readies his sword, 'HE'S GOT GUTS.'. Sanji adds, 'HE WANTS TO FIGHT...'. Wyper, wearing a tribal mask and holding a bazooka-like weapon, glares at them and says coldly, 'ELIMINATE...'.

Wyper attacks with incredible speed and force. He kicks Sanji hard in the face, sending him flying backward with a 'BOOHEH!!'. He then immediately clashes with Zoro, pushing him back. Zoro grunts, 'WOOH!!? GUHAH!!'. Nami screams in panic, 'EH? WAIT, WHAT'S WRONG WITH YOU THREE!!'. Chopper cowers on the deck, crying, 'SKY ISLAND SO SCARY. SKY ISLAND SO SCARY.'. Wyper prepares to fire his weapon, yelling, 'GYAH-- GYAH--!!!'. Zoro recovers and charges at him, shouting, 'THAT'S ENOUGH!!!'.

Just as Wyper and Zoro are about to clash again, a large bird swoops down from the sky. Riding the bird is an old man in full knight's armor, wielding a lance. He blocks Wyper's attack mid-air. Nami looks up in shock, 'WHAT! WHO IS IT THIS TIME!!?'. The armored man announces grandly, 'OOOH--I AM... THE KNIGHT OF THE SKY!!'. His bird squawks, 'PI--!!'.
