Declaration of Humanity

A flashback shows the fallen Donquixote family strung up or exposed before a furious crowd, with flames and black smoke surrounding them. Homing apologizes to the people: "Thank the heavens we're being given a chance at redemption!" and says, "I thought I'd spend the rest of this life of yours uselessly..." Another voice says, "Former Tenryuubito!! Even if you kill 'em, the Marines ain't gonna do anything!" The crowd answers with hatred: "That's a family of Tenryuubito, isn't it!? Let's break every bone in their bodies with hammers!" and a side note says their long-held grudges call forth maddening rage. Young Doflamingo, terrified and enraged, stares down at the mob and says, "Wait, I say! Why should we, who are up here, be brought down so lowly?" He hears people screaming that they were shot 16 times by Doflamingo on the spot, that their sons died, and that their existence alone makes others angry. The page establishes the human hatred Homing's family meets the instant they leave the Celestial Dragon world.

The people's fury becomes a chorus of accusations. One woman cries that they took both her eyes for sport; another says, "I was once a slave!" A man shouts that without a word of warning three days after taking her own life, his wife and daughter abandoned him in a wretched state. Others accuse the Tenryuubito of never being hungry while commoners suffer: "People are dying, reduced to mere skin and bones!" Young Doflamingo, still clinging to his old status, screams, "My wife was burned alive! I could not care less what happens to any of you!" When the mob asks, "Have you ever even felt hunger?" someone answers bitterly that their country is out of stagnation because of the Tenryuubito. The crowd then escalates: "Pain! Misery! Suffering! Do you bastards even know these words?!" Doflamingo calls them gods, but the mob rejects him: "You are gods, aren't you? Not human, right?" The page ends with him screaming for help, "Doffy! 'An-sama! GYAAAAAAH!!" as the privileged child is forced to face what his class did to others.

Back in the present flashback frame, Law wakes to the sound of a Den Den Mushi: "RING RING." His eye snaps open, and he lies panting, "HAA HAA," while the room around him is dark and tense. The ringing continues again and again, cutting through his breathing. Doflamingo appears in a separate panel, also shadowed and stern, as the phone keeps ringing. The page is almost wordless, built from repeated "RING RING" sounds, heavy black backgrounds, and Law's exhausted "HAA" breaths. It functions like a pause after the horror of Homing's family's punishment, pulling the reader from old trauma back toward a present conversation that is still connected to that same past.

The Den Den Mushi call reaches Homing, who asks, "What is it?" A voice from the World Noble side says that they intend to live with land on the gods and spread their self to mere humanity, calling it unbelievable. Homing answers calmly that this is their final decision: "This is as far as we can take you. 33 years ago, holy land Mariejois." He says he has always been a World Noble, Tenryuubito, but also insists, "But I am human." The faces of Homing and his wife appear gentle beside the children as he makes the choice. A representative warns that Homing has bashed his way to be a mistake and asks if he is trying to say that they are the same as him, but Homing replies with gratitude and resolve. The scene shows the original declaration behind the chapter title: a Celestial Dragon family voluntarily renounces its protected status because Homing believes they are human first.

Homing is told, "This is as far as we can take you. This is North End, a World Government non-member nation. You shall find a suitably comfortable residence and a sizable fortune over there." He thanks them, saying that is more than enough, and a ship waits near a large estate. The official adds, "Now then, we shall be taking your Tenryuubito identification chip." Homing smiles and tells his family, "The four of us will lead a quiet life here!" Young Doflamingo, still thinking like a Celestial Dragon, immediately asks, "Father, where're the slaves? Let's go buy some!" Homing anxiously says he will have to teach Doffy and Rosinante everything from square one. In town, Doflamingo refuses to bow, snarling, "Just who do you think I am?!" and ordering, "Someone, hand over your pistol!" A passerby asks, "Why don't you bow? How disrespectful of you fools! You just passed in front of me, didn't you?" The page shows Homing's idealism colliding with his children's ingrained privilege.

The town learns who the family is, and the reaction becomes violent immediately. Doflamingo asks, "Father! Why don't they bow? Where're those Tenryuubito?!" as townspeople gather with torches and weapons shouting, "Find 'em!" and "Let's string 'em up!" Someone yells that the family escaped and must be nearby, while another shouts, "Don't kill them! Keep them alive and make them suffer!" The mob wants to carve several hundred years of resentment and hate into their bones. Homing flees with his wife and children through the hills, and Doflamingo asks, "Father... why are we being chased?" At night Homing hides in a ruined shelter and says, "We can hide here from the elements. The rumors of our existence haven't reached this area yet. I'm grateful." But outside, people continue to scream, "Find them! That family...!" Even the shelter is filthy, with a line complaining, "Bugs are everywhere in the house! It reeks so bad it makes me wanna puke!"

Homing eventually breaks and pleads with Mariejois: "I was naive... I beg you... I'll do anything! Just my wife and children... allow them to return to Mariejois! At this rate, every last member of my family is going to be killed!" The answer is merciless. A Den Den Mushi says, "This is the life you have chosen. The discarded cannot be regained. Do not dare to call upon us again, you filthy human." Homing's silence hangs in the panel after the line. The family starves; Doflamingo collapses in the dirt saying, "For the first time in my life... I'm hungry!" and later cries, "It hurts! Father... for the first time in my life..." Their mother, sick and weakened, apologizes to the children: "Forgive me... my health... it's been..." Doflamingo and Rosinante call out, "Mother!" while other children throw scraps or food at them and shout, "Eat it quickly, roci!" Another cry warns, "WAAAH! People are coming!" The page shows Homing's declaration of humanity becoming abandonment, hunger, sickness, and humiliation.

Doflamingo kneels beside his mother's deathbed and says, "Father... Mother's dead..." The next image cuts to Homing and his two sons trapped and lifted before a screaming crowd. The townspeople shout, "We've caught them!" and Homing cries, "Father! Please, spare my children! Do whatever you must to me alone! Please!" Doflamingo, bound beside him, screams in hatred, "You bastard! What have you done!?" The mob ignores the plea, and the page drops to a later view of an enormous crowd near industrial buildings. Voices announce, "Young master," and "We've caught Law!" tying the memory of Doflamingo's capture to the present young Law in the Donquixote Family. The page's emotional center is Homing's helplessness: he gave up divine status to become human, but the human world answers by making his children watch their mother die and then seizing them.

In the present flashback at the Donquixote hideout, Buffalo and Baby 5 talk about Law after his attack on Corazon. Buffalo says, "'Cause he stabbed Cora-san, he's gonna get tortured dasuyan," while Baby 5 answers, "But I feel so bad for him..." Someone reports that Law ran all the way to harbor, and another says it seems he suddenly developed the urge to escape. Law is dragged or brought back, bloodied but alive, while Buffalo wonders, "Corazon! Shit... so he didn't die!? Now they're just gonna get to kill me for free!" A subordinate admits he thought he had bribed Buffalo with ice cream, and someone else says the blade probably went through Corazon but the stitch went out to Aniki anyway. Doflamingo sits calmly and tells Law, "I've called you here for one reason. I intend to make you a full-fledged member... of the Donquixote Family." The offer shocks the room with "WHAT!?" and "!!?" because it follows what should have been a punishable attack.

Doflamingo explains why Law interests him. Looking at the boy's glare, he says, "The sort of terrible glare birthed in those that have faced the most horrible of experiences... You have potential!" He praises Law: "Ohohoho! You've been deemed worthy! Well done! The young master is the kind of person that can predict the future." The others are confused, asking, "Does he... not yet know about Corazon?" and wondering why Corazon would have at least been able to tell him by writing it out. Law himself remains practical and bitter: "Worthy or not... I'm still going to die in three years." Doflamingo answers that it is up to Law's luck. His specialty is black-market business, and among other things he deals in Devil Fruits; their power sometimes exceeds human knowledge. He tells Law, "There may be a power out there that can heal even your illness!" and says he will train him from here on out as the man who will be his right hand in ten years' time. Law stares back at the words "Devil Fruits..." with wary attention.

Doflamingo notices Corazon's wound and asks, "Hm? Corazon. What happened to you? What's that wound from?" Corazon silently scribbles "ENEMY" on a sign, and Doflamingo says, "That looks pretty deep... Can I safely assume they got the worst of it?" Law watches and wonders, "Did he just... cover for me?" Corazon's silence protects him, but Law remains suspicious. Doflamingo then moves on to plans, pointing at a map and declaring, "We will head for Rivance Mountain in the southeast. And while constantly broadcasting a signal of our location to you, we will carry out the trade." Baby 5 listens from the table, while Trebol and the others react. Law thinks, "What is he thinking? Is he crazy?! That idiot!" Outside, the family prepares to move, with a cannon firing and ships or carriages being readied under heavy sound effects. The page marks Corazon's first hidden act of protection toward Law, even though the boy cannot yet trust it.

The Donquixote Family sets sail, their small vessel riding the waves beneath a bright moon, and then the page becomes a montage of Law's life with the crew. Inside a safe-like hold or ship room, the executives laugh and feast while Law stands among them. Outside, he trains and fights among bizarre hazards: tentacles, blades, beasts, bombs, smoke, and laughing adults. Buffalo, Baby 5, Law, and the others appear in the middle of the chaos, with Law still small but increasingly hardened. Doflamingo signs an "APPROVAL" paper in one panel, while another shows Corazon's huge, clumsy body causing trouble indoors. The page has little direct dialogue, but it compresses time through visual noise: Law is accepted into the family not through kindness but through constant exposure to violence, illegal trade, monstrous scenery, and the crew's manic rhythm.

Training with the Donquixote Family is brutal and absurd. Law is struck, thrown, and forced through drills as Baby 5 and Buffalo train beside him. A huge pirate or instructor attacks with a weapon while Law and Baby 5 scramble through debris and smoke. Corazon lingers nearby, silent and ominous, his feathered coat framing scenes where people are knocked down or injured. In another panel, Law reads from a thick stack of books with titles visible on the spines, including medical and geography-like volumes, suggesting he is studying as well as fighting. Doflamingo stands surrounded by glasses raised toward him, a smug center of authority. The montage shows Law being shaped from several directions at once: combat practice, survival under executives, exposure to criminal operations, medical study, and the constant pressure of Doflamingo's approval.

More training and travel scenes show Law firing at targets, ducking behind cover, and moving through chaotic rooms while Baby 5 and Buffalo train nearby. Corazon, still a strange silent presence, remains close enough to unsettle him. After the montage, Law tells the others, "I've got about a year left, huh... My death might even come earlier than my calculations suggest." He admits that it does not matter whether the crew is fun or not, because he is going to die soon anyway. Baby 5 says, "We told you our real names, didn't we!?" and Buffalo complains, "Not like I really care either way. You're no fun! Booooring!" He adds that if Law has a real name, he should tell it to them, otherwise they will rat on him to Doffy about what happened two years ago. Law stands apart from them, still emotionally unreachable despite two years of shared danger.

Law finally reveals his full name: "Trafalgar D. Water Law." He adds, "I'm actually not supposed to tell people about it." Baby 5 and Buffalo stare, and Law explains, "'D' is a secret name, and 'Water' is taboo... My family has, over generations--" He cuts himself off because it is not a codename like theirs and he cannot simply change it. Buffalo is unimpressed: "Psht, it ain't even that cool. Seriously dasuyan." Law snaps that they were the ones pestering him for it. Then Corazon suddenly grabs Law with a sharp "GRAB!!!" and Law yells, "WAH!" Baby 5 and Buffalo react in alarm: "Corazon! What do you want!?" and "Oi! Leggo! What is it!?" Buffalo comments that Cora-san looks more pissed than usual, and Baby 5 says he is probably going to get bullied again. The page turns the name reveal into danger: Corazon's reaction to the "D" is immediate and intense.

Corazon drags Law away while Law shouts, "What's your deal, Corazon! You wanna piece o' me!?" and asks if what he said back there was true. Corazon, still hidden in shadow, suddenly speaks, shocking Law: "Wha...?" Law realizes Corazon can talk and asks, "Who is... Who's there?" Corazon says, "Then leave immediately. Get far away from Doffy. The secret name 'D,' if that really is your name..." Law stares in confusion, marked by "!!?" Corazon leans in, cigarette clenched and eyes blazing, and orders, "Listen Law...!! You of all people must not be anywhere near Doflamingo!" Law is stunned by the contradiction: the man everyone thought was mute, clumsy, and cruel to children is suddenly speaking urgently, warning him about Doflamingo because of the name he carries. The chapter ends on Corazon's secret and the "ONE PIECE ...CH. 763 END" strip.
