Lie

This is the full-color version of the previous double-page spread. Luffy, Usopp, Zoro, Sanji, and Nami run energetically across a bright sandy beach alongside a giant, wide-mouthed ostrich wearing a straw hat. Luffy carries a yellow sack, Zoro holds a giant purple bottle, and Nami leaps with her arms raised in excitement. The vibrant blue sky and ocean form the backdrop. The text reads "ONE PIECE A caballo Vamo' pa'l mar!" and "Chapter 147 'Lie'".

A single panel shows a tense reaction shot. Wapol stands in the center, his mouth slightly open in surprise. To his left is Chess, and to his right is Kuromarimo. They are all looking off-panel at something unexpected. A large sound effect "ZUN!!" emphasizes the sudden impact of whatever they are witnessing.

Outside the snowy village igloos, the Isshi-20 doctors are kneeling and bowing deeply. One of them speaks up, "Dalton is still alive, his body and vitals are merely frozen, that's all! So if you don't mind, let us MD-20s treat him!" The villagers watch in surprise, murmuring as the doctors remain bowed in the snow. A sound effect "ZAWA...!!" indicates the crowd's unrest. Nearby, Usopp, Vivi, and Zoro observe the scene. Usopp is confused, "I thought there weren't any other doctors on this island? How...!?" Vivi suggests, "Maybe they were sailing together with Wapol on his ship?" Usopp nervously adds, "But then... are they bad guys too?"

The villagers are skeptical of the doctors. One angry villager yells, "Hold it right there! You expect us to trust you people who've played yes-men to Wapol all this time!?" A doctor pleads, "Just what do you plan to do with Dalton!? We're your only hope if you want to save him!" A close-up shows an older doctor with glasses and a mustache explaining their stance: "It's true that we went along with Wapol's orders, but that doesn't change the fact that we're still doctors at heart...! And as doctors, all our research and efforts were dedicated to saving the sick and wounded!" As he speaks, a panel shows Dalton's frozen, unconscious face. The doctor continues, "Long ago, a certain quack doctor taught us to never give up... This country cannot afford to lose any more brave fools like him...!"

Back at Drum Castle, Wapol looks furious and begins chewing rapidly. He declares, "Let me show you... The true power of the Baku Baku fruit...!" He spits something out with a loud "SPIT!" In a wide shot of the snowy courtyard in front of the towering Drum Castle, Wapol stands facing Luffy, Sanji, and Chopper. Sanji, smoking a cigarette, observes, "He can still stand up after taking that hit?" Luffy agrees, "Guy's pretty strong, I have to admit." Chess and Kuromarimo stand behind Wapol, calling out, "Your Majesty!"

Wapol commands, "Chess! List my meals since this morning..." Chess checks a small notepad and reads off the bizarre menu: "At once, Your Majesty! Let's see... one butter-sauteed cannon, one raw cannon, a cannonball & gunpowder salad, and one grilled house from the village." Sanji and Luffy listen in disbelief. Sanji mutters, "The heck does he eat? Calling him an omnivore would be the under-statement of the decade..." Wapol grins wickedly, "Watch closely... the true power of my Baku Baku fruit can be seen only after a meal...!" He opens his massive jaw wide and shouts, "The very things I consume can become my new flesh and blood...! BAKU BAKU SHOCK!" Chopper looks on in terror, asking, "What's he planning to do?" while Sanji and Luffy exclaim, "What the...!"

Wapol undergoes a bizarre transformation, his body expanding and shifting into the shape of a small wooden house with cannon barrels for arms and a chimney on his head. He announces his new form: "WAPOLHOUSE!" He then declares, "Behold my secret royal technique! BAKU BAKU FACTORY!" Chess and Kuromarimo cheer in awe, "AHH!" Sanji stares in deadpan disbelief, saying, "A house!?" while Luffy's eyes sparkle with excitement as he yells, "AWWWWEESOME!" Sanji quickly scolds him, "It's too early to be surprised..."

Wapol opens the front doors of his house-body, revealing a dark void. He suddenly grabs Chess and Kuromarimo and shoves them both into his massive mouth! The two followers scream in terror, "GYAAAA!" as Wapol chomps down on them. Loud crunching sounds fill the air as they cry out, "WHA!?" "GAHHHH!" "AGHHHHH!" Chopper screams in absolute horror, his eyes bulging, "HE ATE HIS FOLLOWERS!?" Sanji and Luffy are equally appalled, with Sanji yelling, "HE'S CANNIBALIZING HIS FRIENDS!"

Steam violently erupts from the chimney on Wapol's head as his body churns and clunks mechanically. A close-up of Wapol's intense eyes shows him declaring, "Witness the miraculous combination!" The wooden doors on his stomach slowly creak open. Chopper stammers, "Those two couldn't possibly have..." Sanji watches warily, "Wha...!?" Wapol proudly announces, "This form of ours... combined...!? Is Drum Kingdom's strongest warrior..."

A new, bizarre figure steps out of Wapol's stomach doors. It is Chess and Kuromarimo, but Chess is now literally standing on top of Kuromarimo's shoulders, acting as one tall entity. They strike a pose and shout, "CHESSMARIMO!" Sanji looks completely unimpressed, sweatdropping as he points out, "Wait, you're just piggybacking, aren't you?" Luffy, however, is amazed again, throwing his arms up and yelling, "Holy cow, that's amazing!" Sanji angrily retorts, "NO, IT'S NOT!" Nearby, Dr. Kureha watches the scene calmly, taking a drink from her bottle. She warns them, "If those fellas were actually weak, this nation's citizens wouldn't have put up with the ridiculous doctor-banishments for so long... Don't let your guard down..."

Wapol stands arrogantly in his house form, lecturing them. "Article 1 in the constitution of Drum Kingdom: 'Those who defy the king's will are to be executed!' This is the foundation of this country! Because I am the state and the state is I! This castle and everything on this island is mine and mine alone...!" He glares up at the top of Drum Castle, where Dr. Hiriluk's pirate flag is flying. "It's defiling my entire royal abode! So there's no way in hell I'm going to stand by while some quack doctor's flag is hanging on top of my castle!" Wapol raises his cannon-arm and fires a massive explosive shot directly at the highest tower.

The scene shifts back to the snowy village at the base of the mountain. Usopp is pacing and panicking, yelling at Zoro. "We should climb up the mountain! Well, Usopp? Mr. Bushido? We can't just stand by and wait here! I mean, there was an avalanche just a moment ago, Wapol's now chasing after them, and Dr. Kureha may not even have returned to the castle yet...! That's not to mention Nami's fever is-" Zoro, looking completely unbothered, interrupts him, "Calm down, Vivi. And on top of that, you're worried about Dalton and Alabasta...? You're burdening yourself with way too many problems!" Zoro continues confidently, "Nami's got Luffy and Sanji with her! They'll manage somehow. I know those three will be just fine, because I trust them!" Vivi looks at Zoro, surprised by his unwavering faith in their crewmates.

Usopp angrily retorts to Zoro, "No, duh! There's like, abominable snowmen and man-eating rabbits the size of bears up there! Just say that from the start next time." Zoro smirks, "You say that but you're just scared 'bout climbing that mountain, right?" Usopp yells back, "And so what if I'm scared!? You got a problem with that!?" Vivi smiles softly and says, "That's right... It's important to believe in them as well... Thanks, Usopp." Suddenly, a commotion breaks out nearby. Dalton, heavily injured, is forcing himself to stand up, grabbing a weapon. The villagers try to hold him back, crying, "Dalton, you're being too reckless!" Dalton shouts, "Move it! If I don't fight now, then when!? From the tragic destruction of our country, we miraculously regained our freedom! If we let this chance slip by, this country will continue to rot away for eternity!" Zoro watches and asks, "Anybody mind filling me in on who that is anyway?" A villager replies, "Ah, mister! Dalton!"

Dalton's face is fierce and determined as he declares, "I'll settle things personally! I'll resort to any method possible... even if it means sacrificing myself, I'll do it...!" A villager pleads with him, "But you're badly injured... And we townsfolk alone just aren't strong enough to beat them..." Vivi, Usopp, and Zoro watch Dalton's resolve. Suddenly, Zoro steps forward, tying his dark bandana around his head, signaling he's ready for a fight. He crouches down and offers his back to Dalton, saying, "Get on! Get on and I'll take you up there! All the way to the castle!"

Back at the castle, Wapol's cannonball strikes the highest tower. Wapol laughs cruelly, "MAHA HAHA!" The explosion engulfs the top of the spire, blowing Dr. Hiriluk's pirate flag away in a cloud of smoke and debris. Chopper watches the destruction in stunned silence, his eyes wide. Luffy looks up at the smoke and says quietly, "The pirate flag..." Luffy, Sanji, and Chopper stand together, staring at the ruined tower. Luffy asks, "Hey, reindeer, is that flag..."

Chopper is trembling with rage. He screams at Wapol, "How dare you do that to Doc's flag...!" Wapol scoffs, "Hmph. Hurry up and kill these pathetic worms." Chessmarimo immediately complies, "Yes, Your Majesty!" Chopper suddenly transforms into his muscular Heavy Point form and charges forward with incredible speed. He yells, "WHY YOU! Doc tried to save even you before he died!" Wapol looks startled by the sudden attack, exclaiming, "Wha!?"

Chopper is in tears as he confronts Wapol, crying out, "Why!? Why Doctor!? How could you think a person as dispicable as this man is worth saving...!?" A brief flashback shows Dr. Hiriluk smiling warmly, saying, "Don't hate humans... this country and its people are all sick right now." Chopper stands his ground in front of the castle, shouting at Wapol, "I... I won't hit you! But you better get out of this country this instant!" Wapol looks confused, "...What?" and then smirks arrogantly, "Heh." Chopper hesitates, "I know but... Doctor-" Suddenly, Dr. Kureha leaps in and delivers a flying kick straight to the back of Chopper's head. She yells, "What kinda crap are you spoutin', Chopper!? Do you really think he can be reasoned with!?"

Dr. Kureha's kick sends Chopper tumbling forward into the snow. She yells his name, "CHOPPER!" Wapol and Chessmarimo watch the sudden friendly fire in confusion. Sanji suddenly points up towards the castle roof, asking, "What's he doing?" Wapol notices and says, "Hm!?" Chessmarimo points as well, "Your Majesty, look!" A voice calls out from above, "Hey you with the big fat mouth!" At the very top of the castle spire, amidst the lingering smoke, Luffy is standing tall. He has caught Dr. Hiriluk's pirate flag and is holding it firmly in place. A jagged speech bubble points toward Luffy, shouting "STRAW HAT!"

A large, dramatic panel shows Luffy standing at the peak of the castle, gripping the skull-and-crossbones flag tightly. His expression is fierce and unyielding. He shouts down at Wapol with absolute conviction, "A lying poser like you, who only 'played' pirates without even fully risking your life, could never understand the true meaning of a pirate's flag!" Down below, Wapol looks up in shock and disbelief, muttering, "...What!?" while Chopper stares up at Luffy in awe, whispering, "Strawhat..."
