THE GREAT CAPTAIN MORGAN

Helmeppo's face fills the panel, eyes wide with rage and tears. "I'M TELLING DADDY ON YOU! I'M CAPTAIN MORGAN'S BELOVED SON!!!" he wails. Coby grabs Luffy's shoulder, begging, "LUFFY! PLEASE STOP!" Luffy glares back coldly. "DON'T RUN CRYING TO PAPA! FACE ME LIKE A MAN!" he snaps. The crowd gasps again. A bystander warns, "YOU BOOGER-FACE!! HE'S NOT WORTH HITTING." Another adds, "FATHER WILL KILL YOU! YOU'RE A WALKING CORPSE! YOU'LL DIE BEGGING FOR MERCY!" Luffy tips his straw hat and replies calmly, "NOW YOU'VE DONE IT..."

A young girl named Rika runs up excitedly. "GET OVER HERE! RIKA!!" she calls. Luffy smiles at her. "THEN I WISH I'D GIVEN HIM A FEW MORE WHACKS FOR YOU!" he says. Rika beams, "YOU WERE GREAT, BIG BROTHER! I FEEL A LOT BETTER NOW!" Coby stammers nervously at a doorway, "UM... WELL... NO-O-O... WHAT ARE YOU SAYING!I YOU DIDN'T GO TO THE PARADE GROUND, DID YOU!I" Inside, a woman pulls a child away. "BUT, MOMMY, HE'S A GOOD MAN. AND ZOLO, HE'S A GOOD--" she protests. The door slams. Luffy walks off laughing, "YEAH, WHATEVER. I NEED TO TALK TO ZOLO. AND CAPTAIN MORGAN HAS THE WHOLE NAVY BEHIND HIM! THEY WON'T LET YOU GET AWAY WITH THIS!" Coby screams in panic, "AAAAAAAAAA" as Rika watches worriedly. "HURRY UP, LET'S GET INSIDE..."

A naval fortress looms under the sky with a "NAVAL FORTRESS" sign. "PHOO..." someone exhales smoke. Inside the grand office, a massive desk dominates the room. "DA DOON" reads the impact as the door bursts open. A voice booms, "...GREAT!!" while another mutters, "I'M SO..." A Marine lieutenant salutes Captain Morgan. "...I BELIEVE THE TOWNSPEOPLE ARE NOW TOO POOR TO RAISE--" he reports nervously. Morgan grins, "YESSIR, REGARDING YOUR TRIBUTES..." The lieutenant continues, "THEN WHY ARE THE TRIBUTES FROM THE PEASANTS... AHEM... TOWNSFOLK..." Morgan leans in menacingly, "YOU CERTAINLY ARE, SIR! YOU'RE THE GREAT CAPTAIN MORGAN, SIR!" "YES SIR!" the lieutenant replies. Morgan's silhouette looms, "IT'S NOT A QUESTION OF HOW MUCH THEY CAN PAY... IT'S A QUESTION OF THEIR RESPECT FOR ME!...GETTING SMALLER!I"

A massive scarred man with a jaw like an anchor snarls while wiping sweat from his face, "I WANT YOU TO KILL SOMEONE FOR ME!!" Nearby, a blond boy in a fur-collared coat bursts through a door yelling "DADDY!!" as a voice inside asks "WHAT'S WRONG, HELMEPPOI WHY THE COMMOTIONI" SLAM!! In the courtyard, Luffy approaches a green-haired swordsman tied to a post and calls out "HEY!" The bound man glares, "YOU AGAIN... IF THIS IS ABOUT ME JOINING YOUR PIRATE CREW, MY ANSWER IS STILL NO!" Luffy grins and replies, "CALL ME LUFFY! I'LL UNTIE YOU IF YOU'LL JOIN MY PIRATE CREW, OKAY!I" The swordsman snaps back, "YOU DON'T LISTEN, BOY!"

Luffy stares at the tied swordsman and asks, "YOU'RE TOO GOOD TO BE A PIRATEI YOU, A BOUNTY HUNTERI WHO EVERYONE THINKS IS SOME SORT OF DEMONI" The swordsman answers, "I'VE GOT MY OWN MISSION......AND IT DOESN'T INVOLVE BECOMING A STINKING PIRATE!" He continues firmly, "I LIVE BY MY OWN CODE... I'VE NEVER DONE ANYTHING I REGRET, AND I DON'T INTEND TO IN THE FUTURE. I DON'T CARE WHAT PEOPLE THINK." Luffy retorts, "HMMPH! IF I WASN'T TIED UP, I'D SHOW YOU..." The swordsman growls, "I HEARD YOU CAN USE A SWORD! WHICH IS WHY I'LL NEVER BE A PIRATE!!" Luffy shouts with determination, "I DON'T CARE WHAT YOU'VE DECIDED!! SORRY, BUT I'VE MADE UP MY MIND! YOU'RE GONNA JOIN MY CREW!!"

Luffy muses, "TREASURES, HUHI TOO BAD THEY TOOK 'EM... HMM..." The swordsman explains, "NEXT TO MY LIFE, THOSE SWORDS ARE MY DEAREST TREASURES. THEY TOOK 'EM FROM ME. THE CAPTAIN'S IDIOT SON..." Luffy asks, "SO WHERE ARE YOUR SWORDS NOWI" The swordsman demands, "YOU'LL HAVE TO JOIN MY CREW! THEN, IF YOU WANT YOUR SWORDS BACK..." Luffy bursts out laughing, "HA HA HA YOU LITTLE RAT!" and points, "I'LL GET YOUR SWORDS FROM THE IDIOT SON!!" The swordsman reacts in shock, "WHATI" Luffy insists, "I KNOW!" As Luffy runs off toward the fortress, the swordsman mutters, "HE'S GOING INTO THE FOR-TRESS... THAT'S ONE DUMB PIRATE!" Luffy waves, "SEE YA SOON!" while the swordsman yells after him, "HEY! COME BACK!!"

On the marine base roof, soldiers struggle to upright a massive axe-shaped statue while someone shouts "STAND IT UP!" and "OKAY! STEADY!" Inside, Captain Morgan looms over his cowering son Helmeppo and roars, "BECAUSE I'M YOUR BELOVED S- I'LL TELL YOU WHY... DO YOU KNOW WHY I'VE NEVER LAID A HAND ON MY LOVELY-YET-MASCULINE FACE BEFORE! EVEN YOU NEVER LAID A HAND ON MY LOVELY-YET-MASCULINE FACE BEFORE!" Helmeppo cries, "FATHER!! WHY AREN'T YOU HUNTING THE BRIGAND WHO HIT ME!!" Morgan delivers a thunderous backhand that sends Helmeppo flying with a massive "VWOOM" impact and a pained "ARF!!", bellowing, "IT'S BECAUSE YOU'RE AN IDIOT SON WHO'S NOT EVEN WORTH HITTING!!"

Naval Captain "Axe-Hand" Morgan looms over the scene, axe resting on his shoulder. He snarls, "I DON'T MIND IF YOU USE MY STATUS... BUT I ONLY LAY HANDS ON PEOPLE WHO DEFY ME!!!" A subordinate protests, "YOU ARE NOT THE GREAT ONE! I AM GREAT!!" Morgan retorts, "YOU'RE BIG ENOUGH TO WIPE YOUR OWN BOTTOM... WHY SHOULD I FIGHT YOUR BATTLESI" The defiant man is struck down violently as Morgan swings his massive axe, the impact marked by huge "DA-WH-WH" sound effects. The beaten figure gasps, "I AM THE GREAT ONE......!" A sign identifies the towering figure as NAVAL CAPTAIN "AXE-HAND" MORGAN.

Morgan sits smoking, learning of a little girl who entered his parade ground. He growls, "SO YOU KILLED HER." The subordinate stammers, "THE LITTLE GIRLI I HEARD A LITTLE MOUSE SNUCK INTO MY PARADE GROUND. I DEALT WITH HER. I-" Morgan orders, "YOU! FIND HER AND KILL HER!" A marine lieutenant protests, "CHILD OR NOT, ANYONE WHO DEFIES ME MUST SUFFER THE PENALTY!" The subordinate pleads, "NO... I, UH... SHE WAS JUST A LITTLE GIRL AND I... SHE DIDN'T EVEN KNOW WHAT SHE WAS DOING..." Morgan snaps back, "AND I- A CAPTAIN- AM YOUR SUPERIOR OFFICER, AM I NOTI" The marine replies, "UH... YES SIR..." Morgan continues, "OH, WOULDN'T YOUI YOU ARE A LIEUTENANT IN THE NAVY AREN'T YOUI I WOULDN'T OBEY SUCH A CRUEL ORDER! BUT, CAPTAIN, SHE'S JUST A LITTLE GIRL..."

Morgan glares, "IF I SAY KILL HER, THEN YOU WILL KILL HER!! THEN YOU ARE DUTY-BOUND TO OBEY ME!!" The subordinate shouts, "I WON'T MURDER A LITTLE GIRL!!" Morgan strikes him with a massive "FA-A-A-A-A-A-A!!" blow, sending him flying as the word "MUTINY!" erupts. Morgan declares, "NO MATTER. THE TOWNSFOLK MUST BE TAUGHT RESPECT. I'LL HANDLE IT PERSONALLY!" The fallen marine is tended to while another gasps in horror, "YOU DIDN'T HAVE TO KILL HIM!!" The lieutenant lies motionless on the ground.

Morgan stands proudly, axe in hand, declaring, "MY RANK IS THE HIGHEST ON THIS BASE... WHICH MAKES ME SUPERIOR TO EVERYONE ELSE HERE... FOR YEARS I LABORED TO ACHIEVE THIS RANK, AND I DID IT BY MY OWN STRENGTH... AT GREAT PERSONAL COST! RANK MEANS EVERYTHING IN THIS WORLD, REMEMBER THAT!" He orders his men, "RAISE MY STATUE! PUT IT AT THE HIGHEST POINT OF THIS FORTRESS AS A SYMBOL OF MY GREATNESS!! IT TOOK YEARS TO BUILD, BUT TODAY IT IS FINALLY COMPLETE. THIS IS A MONUMENT TO MY RANK AND POWER!!!" The massive statue is hoisted with creaking sounds "KREEK KREEK" and "BAM". Marines salute and cheer, "YOU ARE THE GREATEST, SIR! YES SIR!!" Morgan's eye glares as he asks, "IS THAT CLEARI THAT MEANS EVERYTHING I DO IS RIGHT!!!"

Luffy stands in the quiet street outside the Marine base, hands clasped as he mutters, "...OR THE IDIOT SON... NO ONE TO HELP ME FIND ZOLO'S SWORDS..." He scans the empty courtyard and thinks, "MAYBE THEY'RE HAVING A MEETING OR SOMETHING... THAT'S FUNNY... THERE AREN'T ANY SAILORS AROUND..." Suddenly a loud KLUNK and UNH! erupt as Luffy bumps a long cannon barrel. Startled Marines shout, "DID YOU JUST BUMP IT!I WHAT WAS THAT!I" One pleads, "SORRY, SIR! WE WERE CARELESS, SIR!" Luffy rubs his head and decides, "I'LL JUST CHECK IT OUT! I THINK I HEAR VOICES UP THERE," before leaping onto the tall striped tower marked "MARINE" and beginning to climb while someone below wonders, "HUHI"

Luffy grips a rope on the tower side. With a sharp KTCH he stretches his arm back, eyes narrowing as he mutters "GUM-GUM..." The limb snaps forward like a slingshot. In a massive burst of motion lines he yells "...ROCKET!!!" and launches himself skyward as a living projectile, hurtling straight toward the domed roof of the Marine tower while the structure shakes from the impact.

Luffy smashes into the half-finished stone statue of a stern Marine captain. The giant figure's arm swings wildly as Morgan's face looms in fury, roaring, "SCRATCHING IT IS THE SAME AS ATTACKING ME! THIS STATUE IS LIKE MY PERSON! AND YOU'VE ALREADY SCRATCHED IT!!" A sweating sculptor begs, "SORRY, SIR! I'LL PAY TO HAVE IT FIXED!" Morgan snarls at him, "SWINE! DO YOU KNOW HOW LONG I'VE WAITED FOR THIS STATUE TO BE FINISHED!I" Below, Marines hauling ropes hear the crash, one yelling "HUH!I" as Luffy overshoots and tumbles through the air shouting "WHOA!" Another Marine gasps, "IT CAME FROM BELOW!! WHAT'S THAT!I"

The tower erupts in a deafening KRAKOOM as Luffy's body slams through scaffolding and ropes, sending Marines flying in every direction. One Marine stares in shock, "WOW..." Below, the sculptor and several soldiers gape upward in terror, sweat flying. Morgan's massive face fills a panel, eyes bulging and sweat pouring as he glares down. At the base of the ruined statue Luffy sits up, wide-eyed and startled, while debris rains around the broken stone figure.

Luffy stands on the stone platform facing the gathered marines, hand raised to his straw hat as he says, "SORRY." and "UM...". Captain Morgan towers in the foreground with his massive axe-hand. Suddenly a violent impact erupts with the huge onomatopoeia "KRAKASH" as debris flies. Marines snap to attention, saluting and shouting "AYE AYE, SIR!!" and "YES SIR!!". Helmeppo points furiously, roaring "SEIZE HIM! I'LL HAVE HIS HEART!!!". Nearby, a young girl with pigtails screams in terror, "DADDY!!" and "THAT'S THE RUFFIAN WHO HIT ME! IF YOU HAD KILLED HIM THIS WOULD NEVER HAVE--" while sweat flies from her face.

Luffy dashes toward the marine fortress as soldiers point and yell "GET HIM!" and "HE'S ENTERING THE FORTRESS!". Inside, Helmeppo clutches the young girl while she cries "HELP ME!" and "L-LET ME GO! FATHER! HELP!!". Helmeppo shouts "I'VE BEEN LOOKING FOR YOU!!". Morgan, veins bulging and sweating heavily, growls "ALL THESE REBELS DEFYING ME! KILL 'EM ALL!" while a marine reports "CAPTAIN! SOMEONE'S IN THE PARADE GROUND!!". Elsewhere Koby declares with determination, "I'M GOING TO BECOME A PROPER SAILOR! JUST LIKE LUFFY'S GOING TO BE THE KING OF THE PIRATES!" as onlookers discuss the unfolding chaos.

Koby continues passionately, "BUT HE'LL SUCCEED OR DIE TRYING! THAT'S HOW HE IS!" while a flashback shows him smiling and saying "HA HA HA... I WAS SHOCKED WHEN HE FIRST TOLD ME, TOO." Roronoa Zoro, bound to a post with three swords nearby, reacts with shock: "KING OF THE PIRATES!I DOES HE KNOW WHAT THAT MEANS!I" and "WHAT!I". A massive "BOOM" shakes the ground as Luffy is dragged along by Helmeppo, who yells "WHERE ARE ZOLO'S SWORDS!I" and "THERE HE IS! GET HIM!". Luffy protests "I'LL TELL YOU! JUST STOP DRAGGING ME!" with sound effects "KRFF SKR SKRUMP BUMP" as they tumble.
