Sea Charts and Fishmen

The page opens with a massive splash as the giant sea cow, Momoo, bursts violently from the ocean surface, letting out a deafening roar with a massive "GOOOOOHHH" sound effect. Water cascades around the enormous creature. High above Momoo, a small boat with a striped sail is launched into the air, flying uncontrollably. Inside the flying boat, Sanji, Yosaku, and Luffy are visible, with someone screaming "AGHHHH!" as they soar through the sky. In a smaller panel on the right, two villagers stand near some buildings and palm trees on the shore. One of them, carrying a basket, looks back over his shoulder and says, "HUH? I THINK I JUST HEARD SOMETHING REALLY LOUD OVER BY THE PORT!" while a loud "OHHHH" sound echoes in the background.

The giant sea cow, Momoo, crashes heavily back down into the churning ocean waves with a loud "BOKO..." and "GARA GARA..." sound effect. The massive creature looks dazed, letting out a weak "Moo..." as it floats on the surface. Below, a close-up shows Momoo's large fin sinking into the water with a "GOBO BO..." sound, followed by the creature fully submerging with a splash, "ZABOO...". In the bottom panel, the small boat continues its chaotic flight through the air, soaring high above the palm trees of the island with a "HYU..." sound effect. From the flying boat, panicked voices ring out. One yells, "WE'RE GONNA FAAAAAAALLLL!" Another angrily retorts, "THAT'S BECAUSE WE WERE SENT FLYING, YOU IDIOT!" Meanwhile, Luffy's voice excitedly cheers, "YAHOO! IT'S LIKE WE'RE REALLY FLYING!"

The flying boat plummets toward the island, with someone screaming "WE'RE GONNA CRASH INTO THE TREES!" and another yelling "AGHHHH!" The boat violently smashes through the canopy with loud "ZUBAA" and "ZUDOOON" sound effects, snapping branches as it descends. Inside the crashing vessel, Luffy cheerfully notes, "WHOA, WE'VE LANDED!" while another voice panics, "BUT WE'RE NOT STOPPING!" The boat continues to plow through the forest, generating a chaotic "DADA DA DA GO GA GA GA..." noise. In a separate area of the forest, Zoro is seen running. He skids to a halt, his foot planting firmly on the ground, as he hears the commotion. He wonders, "THE HELL WAS THAT NOISE JUST NOW? DID SOMEONE DROP A BOMB ON THIS ISLAND OR SOMETHING?" He resumes his sprint, thinking, "WELL IN ANY CASE, I HAVE TO HURRY UP OR USOPP WILL BE K..." Suddenly, he stops again, a "!!?" reaction bubble appearing as he hears loud "BAKI BAKI BAKI" sounds of trees breaking nearby, accompanied by the rumbling "DA DA DA DA DA" of something approaching fast.

A massive, chaotic crash interrupts Zoro's run. The small boat violently bursts through the trees right in front of him with a deafening "ZUDOOON" sound effect, sending debris flying. Someone screams a long "AGHHHHHHHH!" as the vessel plows into the dirt. Zoro recoils, shielding his face with his arm from the dust and impact. From the wreckage, Luffy pops up with a wide, cheerful grin, exclaiming, "OH! ZORO!" Beside him, Yosaku is battered and crying out, "BRO!" while Sanji looks equally disheveled. Zoro, shocked and annoyed, yells back, "LUFFY...!" The bottom panel shows a wide view of the crash site on the edge of the forest near the shore. The boat has carved a deep trench in the ground, coming to a halt with a massive "DOGOOOON" and sliding to a stop with "ZA ZA ZA ZA ZA" sounds. A large cloud of dust billows up from the impact zone.

The dust settles around the crashed boat. Zoro, furious, yells at Luffy, "THE HELL DO YOU THINK YOU'RE DOING!?" Luffy, casually dusting off his hands, replies, "WHAT DO YOU MEAN? WE'VE OBVIOUSLY COME TO GET NAMI BACK. HAVEN'T YOU FOUND HER YET? WHERE'S USOPP AND JOHNNY?" Sanji sits on the wreckage, lighting a cigarette, while Yosaku lies face down in the dirt, prompting Sanji to ask, "HEY, YOU ALRIGHT?" Zoro suddenly remembers the urgency of the situation, turning away with a "USOPP? OH CRAP! NOW'S NOT THE TIME TO BE WASTING TIME!" Luffy tilts his head, asking, "HM? WHAT'S WRONG?" Zoro explains frantically, "THAT IDIOT GOT HIMSELF CAUGHT BY ARLONG! IF WE DON'T HURRY UP, HE'LL BE K..." Before he can finish, a voice interrupts from off-panel: "HE WAS ALREADY KILLED!" Zoro, Luffy, and Sanji turn to look. A figure approaches from the distance, saying, "IT'S TOO LATE." Zoro recognizes him, murmuring, "...JOHNNY?" Sanji reacts with a surprised "!?"

Johnny is shown in a close-up, tears streaming down his face as he delivers the devastating news. He cries out, "BROTHER USOPP... WAS MURDERED BY SISTER NAMI!" The revelation hits the crew hard. A panel shows the shocked faces of Sanji, Yosaku, Luffy, and Zoro, all reacting with a collective "!!?" of disbelief. The scene then shifts to a wide view of a ruined coastal area, identified by a sign as the "WEST COAST OF COCOYASHI VILLAGE". The landscape is devastated, with the ground torn up and houses destroyed. Sanji, looking at the destruction, wonders, "JUST WHAT ON EARTH HAPPENED HERE...?" He notes, "BUT THERE'RE NO TRACES OF ANYTHING HERE. NOT EVEN THE SMELL OF GUNPOWDER." Zoro points out the physical damage, observing, "LOOK, THE SHORE'S BEEN ALL GOUGED OUT." The crew stands at the edge of a massive crater that leads into the ocean.

On another part of the island, a group of villagers, including Nojiko and Genzo, are looking out at the ocean. One villager points and says, "HEY, LOOK! ISN'T THAT... A MARINE SHIP!?" Another observes, "IT DOESN'T LOOK LIKE ANY MARINE SHIP I'VE EVER SEEN." A young boy, Chabo, runs up to Nojiko, yelling, "HEEEEEYYY! SIS!" Nojiko recognizes him, saying, "AH, THE KID FROM GOSA..." A villager concludes, "IT MUST NOT BE FROM THE MARINE BASE NEAR THIS REGION." Chabo excitedly asks, "CAN YOU SEE THE MARINE SHIP!?" Nojiko points to the vessel on the horizon and asks, "YOU MEAN THAT?" Chabo confirms, "YEAH! THE GOVERNMENT SENT IT TO AID GOSA VILLAGE! THEY'VE SENT A SHIP FOR US!" Nojiko is surprised, "THEY SENT A SHIP!?" Chabo explains, "THAT'S RIGHT! SOME OF THE SURVIVORS FROM MY VILLAGE MANAGED TO CONTACT THE GOVERNMENT!"

The perspective shifts to the deck of the approaching Marine ship. A large Marine officer, Commodore Purin Purin, looks through binoculars at the imposing structure of Arlong Park on the coast. He remarks, "SO IS THAT THE RUMOURED ARLONG PARK? THE WORLD MUST BE COMING TO AN END IF PIRATES CAN SET UP A COZY BASE AND STRUT THEIR STUFF LIKE THAT." A subordinate standing next to him replies, "I COULDN'T AGREE MORE, COMMODORE PURIN PURIN!" Purin Purin then turns to address his crew, stating, "LISTEN UP, MEN. OUR MISSION TODAY, IS ONLY TO RESCUE THE SURVIVORS OF GOSA VILLAGE WHICH WAS RECENTLY DESTROYED BY THE ARLONG PIRATES!" He pauses, his expression hardening, "HOWEVER...! DOES THAT ALLOW US, WHO STAND FOR JUSTICE, TO SIMPLY OVERLOOK A PIRATE FORTRESS RIGHT IN FRONT OF OUR EYES!?" His men salute enthusiastically and shout in unison, "NO, SIR, NO!"

Inside Arlong Park, Arlong lounges in a chair while his crew observes the approaching ship. One pirate notes, "THE 77TH BRANCH?" Another confirms, "YES, THAT'S WHAT IT SAYS." Arlong, looking unbothered, says, "MUST BE NEW... SOMEONE GO OVER THERE AND NEGOTIATE WITH THEIR CAPTAIN. IF YOU CAN'T BUY'EM OFF FOR 2 MILLION, THEN JUST GET RID OF THEM." Suddenly, a loud "BOOM!" rings out. A cannonball flies toward Arlong Park with a whistling "HYUUUU" sound. A pirate panics, "AGH! THEY'VE FIRED THEIR CANNONS!" Another yells, "WATCH OUT, ARLONG!" Arlong simply sits there, letting out a calm "AAH..." as the cannonball crashes into the courtyard right in front of him, creating a massive explosion of debris and smoke with a loud "DOGOOON" sound effect.

The smoke clears to reveal Arlong sitting calmly in his chair, having caught the cannonball directly in his mouth. His crew looks on in shock. One stammers, "HE STOPPED A CANNONBALL... WITH HIS TEETH...!" Another adds, "W-WHAT MONSTROUS JAW STRENGTH..." Kuroobi, standing nearby, asks, "DO YOU STILL WISH TO PROCEED WITH THE NEGOTIATIONS?" Arlong, his sharp teeth gripping the iron ball, glares menacingly and replies, "CANCEL IT." He then spits the crushed remains of the cannonball onto the ground with a "SPIT" sound. The pirate crew erupts into cheers, raising their weapons and shouting, "ALRIGHT, IT'S TIME FOR BATTLE!" amidst "UOOO" and "YAHHAA" noises. However, Chew, standing with his hands in his pockets, says, "CHU <3" and Kuroobi commands, "HOLD UP, YOU GUYS."

The three top officers of the Arlong Pirates step forward to handle the situation. On the left, Kuroobi, a muscular rayfish fishman with his arms crossed, says, "THOSE HUMANS ARE TRULY FOOLISH IF THEY THINK THEY CAN CHALLENGE US OUT ON THE SEAS..." In the center, Hatchan, an octopus fishman with six arms, strikes a pose and declares, "JUST LEAVE'EM TO US!" On the right, Chew, a tall fishman with prominent lips, says, "THERE'S NO NEED FOR YOU TO EXPEND A WHOLE LOT OF EFFORT JUST TO GET RID OF SOME TRASH. CHU <3" Text boxes introduce Kuroobi as "ARLONG PIRATES CREW OFFICER KUROOBI (RAYFISH-TYPE FISHMAN)" and Chuu as "ARLONG PIRATES CREW OFFICER CHUU (JAPANESE WHITING FISH-TYPE FISHMAN)". A small note explains that "kiss" is Japanese for Whiting fish, explaining Chuu's smooching habit. In the bottom panel, other Arlong Pirates watch eagerly. One holding a drink laughs, "HEH, THIS'LL BE QUITE A SIGHT IF ALL 3 OF OUR OFFICERS ARE FIGHTING." Another agrees, "GYOHO. THAT SHIP WON'T EVEN LAST 3 MINUTES."

Back on the Marine ship, the crew is confused by the lack of an explosion. A Marine reports, "THAT'S STRANGE... COMMODORE! IT SEEMS THAT THE CANNONBALL FAILED TO EXPLODE." Commodore Purin Purin orders, "FIRE ANOTHER SHOT THEN. THIS IS OUR DECLARATION OF WAR! WE MUST SHOW THEM THAT WE'RE PREPARED TO FIGHT NO MATTER WHAT! OUR ENEMIES ARE FISHMEN SO DO NOT LET DOWN YOUR GUARDS, MEN!" The Marines salute, "YES, COMMODORE PURIN PURIN!" A Marine prepares the cannon, shouting, "LIGHTING THE CANNON!" Suddenly, a voice says, "WAIT." Chew is seen inhaling deeply, his cheeks puffing out. He spits a high-pressure blast of water from his mouth, calling out "WATER GUN!" The water bullet shoots across the distance and strikes the Marine lighting the cannon with a loud "ZABOO", sending him flying backward as he screams "AGHHH!" Another Marine is also hit and cries out "AGHH!"

Panic spreads on the Marine ship as they realize they are under attack. Marines shout, "IT'S THE ARLONG PIRATES!" and "PREPARE FOR BATTLE!" Commodore Purin Purin raises a hand, commanding, "WAIT! CALM DOWN, MEN!" Chew watches from Arlong Park with a question mark bubble over his head. Purin Purin strikes a confident pose, pointing his thumb at himself, and announces, "I AM COMMODORE PURIN PURIN OF THE MARINE'S 77TH BRANCH. MY MEN AND I ARE A FAIRLY RENOWNED TROOP OF ELITE MARINES, IT'D BE BEST IF YOU JUST SURRENDERED PEACEF..." Before he can finish his sentence, another water bullet strikes a Marine right next to him, sending the man flying with an "AGHH!" The other Marines are enraged, shouting "SIR!", "HOW DARE YOU...!", and "KILL HIM!"

Chaos erupts on the Marine ship as it suddenly lurches. Marines panic, yelling, "WHAT'S GOING ON!?" and "COULD A FISHMAN BE UNDERNEATH OUR SHIP RIGHT NOW!?" Underwater, Kuroobi is shown effortlessly tearing the ship's massive wooden rudder off its hinges with a smirk, saying "HEH." Back on the surface, Chew calmly explains, "AS OF NOW... YOUR SHIP'S RUDDER HAS BEEN REMOVED. AND A SHIP WITHOUT A WORKING RUDDER HAS ONLY ONE DESTINATION... CHU <3 THE BOTTOM OF THE SEA." The Marines react with shock. Meanwhile, deep underwater, Hatchan approaches a massive coral reef. He flexes his six arms, declaring, "MY JOB'S TO MOVE THIS REEF...! LET'S DO THIS!" He grabs the base of the reef and strains, shouting "HOOOHHH!" as he begins to lift it.

On the ship, Commodore Purin Purin demands, "JUST WHAT THE HELL DO YOU WANT!?" Underwater, Hatchan continues his immense effort, thinking, "LET'S MAKE THIS SHIP EASIER TO SINK..." He heaves the massive reef upward with a mighty "EII!!!" The Marines on deck are thrown off balance by the shifting currents, screaming "AHHHH!" Chew continues his explanation, "A GREAT REEF WAS MOVED, RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF A STRONG TIDAL CURRENT... JUST WHAT DO YOU SUPPOSE WILL HAPPEN THEN?" A Marine looks over the side, confused, "WHAT...!?" Chew adds, "LET'S SAY FOR EXAMPLE..." Underwater, Hatchan plants the massive reef in a new location, thinking, "SHOULD BE AROUND HERE!" The ocean currents begin to swirl violently around the newly placed obstacle.

A massive, violent whirlpool forms directly in the path of the Marine ship. The crew is in absolute terror. One yells, "AGHH! A GIGANTIC WHIRLPOOL SUDDENLY APPEARED RIGHT IN FRONT OF US!" Another cries, "THAT'S IMPOSSIBLE!" A third confirms their doom, "THE RUDDER WON'T WORK!" The ship is caught in the swirling vortex, tilting dangerously as a Marine screams, "WE'RE BEING SUCKED IN!" The scene cuts back to the shore, where the villagers watch the destruction of their only hope. A villager laments, "EVEN THOUGH THEY CAME TO SAVE US..." Genzo, looking grim, adds, "THIS IS THE CRUEL REALITY..." Nojiko watches with a stoic, resigned expression, thinking, "NO ONE CAN HOPE TO ESCAPE FROM ARLONG'S RULE."

Back at Arlong Park, the three officers return. Arlong grins widely and says, "SORRY FOR MAKING YOU GO THROUGH ALL THAT TROUBLE, BOYS..." Kuroobi replies, "HEH, IT'S NOTHING AS LONG AS WE KNOW EVERYTHING THERE IS TO KNOW ABOUT THESE SEAS FROM THE WINDS TO THE OCEAN FLOORS." Chew adds his usual "CHU <3". Kuroobi continues, "WITH NAMI'S SEA CHARTS AND OUR ABILITIES, NO ONE CAN CHALLENGE US ON THE SEAS." Arlong's grin widens as he states, "SPEAKING OF WHICH, NAMI'S AN INVALUABLE MEMBER IF WE'RE TO CREATE OUR ARLONG EMPIRE." Kuroobi questions him, "BUT DIDN'T YOU PROMISE TO LET HER AND HER VILLAGE GO FREE, ONCE SHE PAYS 100 MILLION BELI?" Arlong's expression turns sinister, his sharp teeth gleaming as he replies, "OF COURSE. AS I'VE SAID BEFORE, I'M A MAN WHO WOULD RATHER DIE THAN BREAK A PROMISE INVOLVING MONEY...!"

The scene returns to Luffy and his crew. Luffy is furious, grabbing Johnny by the collar and yelling, "SAY IT ONE MORE TIME, AND I SWEAR I'LL KICK YOUR ASS!" Sanji tries to intervene, saying, "LUFFY, STOP! IT'S NOT AS IF JOHNNY'S THE ONE AT FAULT HERE!" Luffy retorts angrily, "WELL HE'S MAKING UP BULLCRAP!" A large close-up shows Luffy's intense, angry face as he screams, "THERE'S NO WAY THAT NAMI WOULD KILL USOPP! WE'RE CREWMATES!" Johnny, still crying and holding his face, insists, "IT'S FINE IF YOU DON'T WANT TO BELIEVE IT...! BUT I SAW IT WITH MY VERY OWN EYES...!" Suddenly, a pair of legs wearing sandals steps into the foreground. A voice calls out, "NAMI..." followed by, "JUST WHO DID YOU CALL CREWMATES, LUFFY?" The crew turns to see Nami standing before them.
