The Mermaid Legend

A massive warship is violently torn apart in churning seas under dark, billowing smoke. Explosions rip through the hull as debris flies and waves crash. A voice screams "UWAA-AAH!!!" amid the chaos. Below, the scene shifts to a massive circular structure and a figure plummeting through the air. "BHWA!!" rings out as the figure yells in terror, "I... I AM SHRINK-ING."

Explosions rock the battlefield near a massive tower. Luffy, eyes wide, shouts "THAT... THAT WAS CLOSE!!" as he is blasted backward amid smoke and rubble, yelling "HAA...!!! HAA...!!!" A massive impact "ばッ" sends him flying. In the next panels Luffy, now tiny, sweats and mutters "HAA..." while thinking "BUT I'VE SHRUNK AGAIN... 'GEAR THIRD' IS A FUN IDEA AND ALL, BUT THE SIDE-EFFECT IS SO TROUBLESOME..." He looks up in alarm: "ARE THEY FIRING AT THEIR OWN WARSHIPI ARE THEY IDIOTS...I" as more blasts "ゴォォォ..." echo around him.

Luffy continues thinking while tiny: "SO I'LL PROBABLY BE LIKE THIS FOR ANOTHER MINUTE...!!! I USED GEAR THIRD FOR ABOUT A MINUTE...!!!" He decides "I SHOULD GO HIDE UNTIL I GET BACK TO NORMAL OR HE'LL KILL ME!!" Nearby, a leopard-spotted man leaps through smoke and debris. "TON TON" sound effects mark his movement. He thinks "EITHER HE'S BEING SERIOUS... OR JUST JOKING AROUND... THE FACT IS HE'S STILL ALIVE..." In close-up the leopard man smirks, "IT WOULD HAVE BEEN BORING....THOUGH, IF HE DIED FROM SUCH A BOMBARDMENT," as Luffy's tiny voice adds "HAA..."

Explosions rock the sea train as it barrels forward amid massive blasts and smoke. A striped sea creature-like form surges ahead while Franky clings to the side, shouting "HURRY UUUUP!" Voices cry out "WE'RE ALMOST THERE!!" and "I SEE THE MAIN ISLAND'S FRONT GATE!!!" as the train smashes through barriers with "ドガオン!!" and "ボカーン!!!" impacts. Below, a wide view shows the Marine fortress island under siege, ships burning in the water. A circular panel reads "WAN' COME WITH US!I" while a massive voice bellows "GEROOOOO....!!!" Franky, bloodied and determined, answers questions about his past: "WAS TAKEN AWAY" and "JUST LIKE TOM-SAN WAS." He finishes with a defiant "GERO...!!!" as the train charges toward the gate.

The ruined island burns as a Marine ship explodes. A voice laughs "WAHAHAHA-HAHAHA!! HEY!! DID YOU SEE THAT!I" while another declares "THE STRAWHAT WHO WENT BERSERK ON THE WARSHIP HAS BEEN BLOWN UP INTO PIECES!! WAHAHA, TAKE THAT!! YOUR CAPTAIN IS DEAD!!!" On the shore, a towering figure in a star-patterned cloak looms over cowering Marines, declaring "NOW!! HAND NICO ROBIN OVER!! THIS IS JUSTICE, CUTTY FLAM!!! THIS IS THE POWER OF THE BUSTER CALL I TRIGGERED!!" A Marine begs "THEN MAYBE I CAN PARDON YOU FOR YOUR CRIME!!" while another sneers "THEY FIRED AT A WARSHIP WITH FELLOW MARINES ON IT...!!" Robin stands bloodied and defiant as voices accuse her: "OVER THE WORLD GOVERNMENT THAT PROTECTS YOU DAY AND NIGHT!I WOULD YOU TRUST A DANGEROUS WOMAN WITH OHARA BLOOD RUNNING IN HER VEINS!I YOU'RE NOT A PIRATE!! BESIDES, WHY DO YOU HAVE TO PROTECT THAT WOMAN!I IF YOU DEFY US, YOU'LL JUST END UP LIKE TOM AND..."

Franky charges with a massive punch, roaring "DIE- BABBS!!" as a Marine yells "CHIEF!!!" The blow lands with shattering force. Elsewhere, a cloaked swordsman clashes violently, his blade flashing amid "SHAKSSSSIN!!!" and "GNU!!! HAA HAA..." A Marine taunts "HIS FATE CAN'T POSSIBLY SWALLOW ANY MORE THAN THAT! BOHA!!" while another shouts "TAKE THIS!!!" In the chaos, a voice commands "LISTEN.....!! FUNKFREED, GIVE NICO ROBIN A FATAL WOUND WHILE SHE'S OFF-GUARD SO THAT SHE WON'T BE ABLE TO RESIST LATER...!!" Observers react: "HE DREW THE ZOUKEN* "FUNKFREED"! THAT'S A STRONG ONE!!"

A massive elephant-like trunk slams down with "PAOO!!!" and "グイッ!" as Robin gasps "EHI!!" The beast attacks with "ELEPHANT CHOOOOP!!!" sending debris flying. A cloaked figure is hurled through the air amid "NUAAAAAH!!!" and massive "ズッ!!" impacts, the ground cracking. Voices cry "BASTARD!!!" and "TRULY A HOPELESS GUY..." The elephant form looms as Marines react in shock: "HE STOPPED IT!!!" Robin stares in disbelief while others shout "YOU ARE" and "ARGH....!!" amid swirling dust and destruction.

Funkfreed the elephant rears up violently with Spandam clinging to its back. "FUNKFREED!! YOU'RE AN ELEPHANT, BUT YOU STILL STOPPED YOU!I" Spandam yells in panic. The beast's trunk and body thrash as Spandam threatens, "OTHERWISE, I'LL SHOOT YOU IN THE MIDDLE OF YOUR FOREHEAD!!!" and commands, "TURN YOUR NOSE BACK TO NORMAL... ELEPHANT!!" Below, Robin stands calmly. Spandam rages, "I THOUGHT I TOLD YOU THAT I'VE PLACED MY BET ON THEM, SPANDA!!" as Funkfreed charges. Robin replies with quiet resolve, "NICO ROBIN." Spandam orders, "RAGE THERE AND SLASH HIM TO PIECES!!!" Funkfreed obeys with a "SHUN" and a trunk swipe. "OKAY, THAT'S GOOD, YOU'RE A GOOD BOY," Spandam praises while the Straw Hats watch from afar.

Franky reflects bitterly on the past: "IF YOU HAVE THEM AS YOUR ENEMY, YOU'LL NEVER HAVE ENOUGH LIVES TO LIVE!!" and "IF ONLY I'D HAD THE POWER THAT DAY. I NEVER THOUGHT THAT THIS DAY WOULD COME." He roars, "I WANTED TO GET TOM-SAN BACK NO MATTER WHAT...!!!" and "STOP THE SEA TRAIN!!!" Robin watches with a faint smile, thinking, "IT'S SUCH A REFRESHING FEELING...!!!!" and notes the World Government's ruthless pursuit of their nakama. Franky continues, "I'VE NEVER FORGOTTEN TOM-SAN'S DEATH TILL TODAY!!!" as he charges forward with a massive attack, declaring his wish to crush the enemy. The Straw Hats press on despite the danger.

Franky smashes through the massive gates with a devastating strike. "JUST LIKE THIS!!!" he shouts as the impact erupts in a huge explosion of debris and smoke. "BAO-OO-OO!!!" and "HOGA-AAAH!!!" ring out amid the destruction. Funkfreed is hurled aside with a pained "KRUMP KRUMP!!!" Franky lands amid the rubble, declaring, "MY WISH HAS COME TRUE!!!" and "THANKS TO THEM..." as the path opens. The massive doors lie shattered while Funkfreed and Spandam react in shock.

Franky bursts through the wreckage yelling, "WEAPONS LEFT!!!" as the sea train and debris fly. He tells the others, "SURRENDER YOUR SHIP!!!" and "I'LL MAKE A WAY FOR THEM TO ESCAPE!!!" while thinking, "I'VE BEEN DEAD ONCE. IF THE STRAWHATS CAN GET OUT OF HERE ALIVE, I WOULDN'T MIND SACRIFICING MY LIFE AGAIN!!!" Robin smiles and says, "I HAVE NOTHING TO FEAR... BECAUSE I'M NOT ALONE ANYMORE!!" She urges, "ROBIN, GO!!" as another voice cries, "NO!! NO ONE IS IN THE OCEAN!!" and offers, "I'LL HELP, TOO! I THINK I'M FINE NOW."

A massive explosion rocks the tower as KA-BOOOM!!! erupts in the sky. Below, the leopard-masked fighter stands tall while Luffy lies battered on the rubble. A voice explains, "YOU SHOULD ACCEPT THAT FACT AND SUFFER THE CONSEQUENCES THAT YOU HAVE TO PAY." Another continues, "THAT FIGHTING POWER YOU HAVE IS VERY UNSTABLE..." The leopard man adds, "HE... HE FOUND ME!!" Luffy groans, "... UGH!" The speaker concludes, "IN EXCHANGE FOR THE POWER YOU HAD EARLIER." Luffy stares in shock with "!" and "KU..." The leopard fighter declares two techniques: "KAMIE BUSHIN." and "SEIMEI KIKAN" as his body transforms further.

The leopard fighter lunges and strikes with "SHIGAN." sending Luffy flying amid "ビシッ...!!" and impact effects. Luffy is hurled back as the attacker says, "AFTER ALL, YOUR STUPID ATTACK WON'T..." Luffy screams "UWAAAH!!!" while being punched. The leopard man taunts, "BECAUSE YOUR STUPID ATTACK WON'T..." and later "IT IS UNFORTUNATE... BUT IN THAT STUPID FORM..." Luffy yells desperately, "UGH...!!! COME BACK TO NORMAL, BODY!! HURRY!!!" and "HURRY!! OR I'LL BE DONE FOR!!!" The leopard fighter unleashes "SHIGAN" and "MADARA.*" while declaring, "DIE, STRAWHAT!!" Luffy cries, "CRAP! ARCH!! I... I'M TRAPPED!!"

The leopard fighter kicks powerfully with "クンー!!" and "ガッ" effects, sending Luffy crashing. Luffy reacts with "!!I" Someone shouts, "HEY, LOOK!!" The leopard man growls, "COMING BACK!!" Luffy yells, "I'M COMING BACK!!" while noting, "THE DAMAGE FROM EARLIER IS COMING TO MY LEGS..." and "WHA...!I" The leopard fighter smirks, "OH." Luffy's face fills the frame with a wide grin as he declares, "WORKING WELL!!!" and "IT IS" with "GRIN!!" effects.

Luffy is slammed into the stone floor with massive "ゴゴゴゴゴ!!" impacts as debris flies. A reindeer-like figure and others lie injured nearby. The reindeer shouts, "I'VE GOTTA DO SOMETHING!!! OR EVERYONE WILL DROWN TO DEATH!!!" A bear-like ally wonders, "ISN'T THERE ANYTHING I CAN DO...!I" while a long-nosed man lies dazed. Underwater, a woman gasps, "DARK... HELP..." and "I CAN'T BREATHE...!!!" A small reindeer cries, "I CAN'T HOLD MY BREATH ANYMORE!!!" and "MYAAA!!!" as the long-nosed man panics, "THIS IS THE END OF MY LIFE, HUH...!I SHIT!!!" The woman adds, "...!! IT'S GETTING..." and the long-nosed man reflects, "IT WAS PRETTY FUN... BUT I DIDN'T LIVE LONG ENOUGH!!!"

A spiky-haired man is yanked violently through churning water, shouting "WHAT!I WHAT'S GOING ON!I" and "I'M BEING PULLED BY SOMETHING!!" Another voice cries "I WON'T LET YOU DIE!!" while others yell "PULL YOURSELVES TOGETHER...!!" and "IT'S OKAY!!" A massive mermaid tail sweeps past with dramatic motion lines and the sound effect "ゴゴゴ". The scene shifts to calm narration panels titled "THE MERMAID LEGEND..." A beautiful mermaid with long flowing hair swims through the current. The narration reads: "LOOKING UP, I SEE LONG HAIR FLOWING WITH THE CURRENT..." "SUCH A BEAUTIFUL APPEARANCE AS IF... I AM SEEING A DREAM OR A VISION." "A FEW DROWNED SAILORS IN THE OCEAN..." "I SEE A TAIL AND FINS RIGHT BEFORE I PASS OUT." The spiky-haired man thinks "AAH, AM I DREAMING OR SOMETHING...!I" and "...I BET I AM..." as the vision fades.

The spiky-haired man reacts in shock with "DU... DU...!!!" and "DUGONG!!I" as a gigantic, grinning dugong-mermaid hybrid bursts forward with massive speed lines and the huge onomatopoeia "ゴボゴボゴボ" and "ドドドドドド!!!". The creature laughs "NGAGAGA-GAGA!!!" while shouting "THIS WILL BE AN EXPRESS RIDE!!! HOLD YOUR BREATHS!!!" The spiky-haired man and a round-eyed companion cling desperately to its back amid bubbles and turbulence, one exclaiming "LET ME SAY..." as the dugong-mermaid surges ahead.
