In the present at Duke Inuarashi's sanatorium, Luffy and the others react in shock to Nami's reveal: "Caesar's 'poison gas weapon'!?" Duke Inuarashi drools and says that Caesar is a savior of theirs, even if it is hard to feel that way because he was also the source of the weapon. Wanda says Caesar handled the manufacturing while Doflamingo handled distribution, and those weapons would then reach the likes of Kaido. Luffy angrily yells "Caesar!!!" as the chapter title appears: "Chapter 809: 'Master Nekomamushi'."

Rather than dwell on defeat, Duke Inuarashi tells Luffy that the straw hat suits him well and says he believes Luffy is talking about Master Nekomamushi. He recalls a time long ago when he sailed the seas alongside "that thing," and remembers running into Shanks, who wore a similar kind of hat and had become one of the hotshot Yonko. Luffy lights up, shouting that Shanks actually gave him the hat, but Inuarashi suddenly falls asleep. The others panic because it is still 6 PM, and the Duke is already out cold.

Wanda explains that the Mokomo Dukedom is constantly under the watch of two dukes. Duke Inuarashi is the official ruler of the land, while Master Nekomamushi guards the Whale Forest, a sacred place revered by the minks for generations, and holds power equal to the Duke's. Usopp asks what that has to do with Inuarashi suddenly going to sleep. Wanda answers that the two have an extremely testy relationship and would likely be at each other's throats if they crossed paths. She says they used to be inseparable friends, but now their fights always end in stalemates.

Wanda says things became so unbearable that the two dukes split their working hours into halves: along with the sun from 6 in the morning to 6 at night, and along with the moon from 6 at night to 6 in the morning. The people of the town are active during the day, while those from the forest keep nocturnal hours, and the same pattern applies to combat stations. When Inuarashi falls asleep, everyone from his fort, even the doctors, collapses along with him. Wanda notes that Sicilian is the one who always puts his all into everything, even as sleep overtakes the day shift.

In the flashback to Jack's invasion, the minks beg the attackers not to destroy their homes. As the Duke's side starts to collapse into sleep, citizens cry in relief that the musketeers have arrived and tell everyone to leave it to them and fall back. The Musketeer Squad charges in, calling for losses to be kept to a minimum and saying seizing the enemy's weapons is their top priority. Their arrival restores order to the defense, and the soldiers answer Sicilian's commands with "Yes sir!!" while the battle rages through Claw City.

The enemy is startled by the strength of the minks, wondering if they are an unknown race and warning each other about peculiar warriors on the opposing side. Sicilian and the Three Inuarashi Musketeers take command, and Sicilian orders the agile musketeers to lead the townspeople to safety in the forest. The Beasts Pirates warn one another to beware of the ones with "black horns," while a fighter using "Wolf Grip" attacks. Wanda also joins the fight, and one enemy realizes that a mink's hand has transformed into a wolf-like claw.

Duke Inuarashi arrives before Jack and demands an end to the violence. He calls out, "'Jack,' I believe it was?!" and swears on the gods that the person Jack seeks is not in their land. Inuarashi says the confrontation will bear no fruit and is absolutely futile, urging Jack to cease the destruction at once. Jack, still in mammoth form, asks whether Inuarashi is the king of the country. The face-off places the country's ruler directly before the invader, with the city still burning around them.

Inuarashi lays down his blade, shocking the watching minks, and tells Jack that the pirates may search for the samurai at their leisure without interference. He even says they can search across the entire country, or better yet the entire island, if only they cease the devastation at once. He argues that the country is far too rich in history to be destroyed like this. Jack answers with a blunt "Hell no" and attacks anyway, sending Inuarashi and the defenders flying while the citizens cry out for the Duke to run.

Jack's enormous mammoth attack crashes into Inuarashi, but the Duke stops and brushes it off as if it were nothing, stunning both sides. The Beasts Pirates exclaim that this is supposed to be a fluffy, cuddly animal kingdom, while the minks are equally amazed that Inuarashi repelled Lord Jack's blow. One pirate says the dog before them is definitely not a normal dog, and another admits, "That mutt's a beast!!!" The page demonstrates that Inuarashi can stand against Jack physically even after trying diplomacy first.

Jack's men warn the minks not to think they are hot stuff just because Inuarashi stopped one attack. They say their boss Lord Jack is infamous throughout the New World and that his name resonates with a bounty of "ONE BILLION" berries. Inuarashi asks Jack not to jump to hasty conclusions, saying he will say this once and only once: the samurai not being there is now Jack's "sin." He vows to cease the mayhem only when the "samurai" stands before him, while Jack's side remains unmoved.

Jack calls the situation absolute insanity and says he loves to destroy, declaring that a true calamity has come upon the minks. The destruction in Claw City grows worse as buildings collapse and debris floods the streets. The defenders wonder what is with all the flooding in their country while the fighting continues. Jack's deliberate delight in destruction contrasts with Inuarashi's attempts to limit damage, showing why he is feared as one of Kaido's calamities.

At exactly 6 PM, a tremendous roar shakes the country: "GRRRMEOOOWW!!!" The minks say it is the roar of Master Nekomamushi, and that the moron of the night has finally awakened. The musketeers fall back because it is time for them to rest, explaining that working in shifts is their top priority and lets them maintain stamina while the enemy depletes theirs. Inuarashi leaves Jack with Nekomamushi and warns him not to think he is the only obstinate, stubborn jackass around, because no matter where Jack goes, there are plenty of imbeciles in this country.

Nekomamushi enters with the Guardians, declaring, "Intruders will be shown no mercy!!!" and "When the moon shines bright, this country belongs to me!!!" The title card identifies him as "Guardian of the Whale Forest (Duke of the Night), 'Master Nekomamushi'," while the group is labeled "GUARDIANS." The Beasts Pirates panic at the sight of the huge cat, calling him enormous and a monster. Nekomamushi seizes Jack and declares the place will be Jack's final resting spot, bringing the nocturnal defenders fully into the battle.

Nekomamushi slams Jack's mammoth body into the city, announcing, "For I am Nekomamushi!!! The man who awaits the dawn of this world!!!" He says that if Jack were already digesting in his stomach and if something of that sort happened on his watch, it would mean a samurai was stupid enough to set foot on the island. Jack's forces scream for Lord Jack as Nekomamushi asks whether they came in search of a warrior from Wano Country. When told all the details, he tells his town not to mind the little things. The chapter ends with the note that One Piece will be on break for the next issue.
