Adventure on the Island of Women

Amazon Lily is introduced in a sweeping view of a fortress-like village built inside a towering mountain ring. Narration explains, "This is a country of women, \"Amazon Lily,\" where men are forbidden." It adds that "Those who venture out to sea sometimes return bearing children," and that in this tall mountain surrounded by deep jungle, "strangely all the children born are female." The village itself is shown as a huge fortified settlement of tiered buildings, walls, bridges, gates, and cliffside houses, with women moving through the streets, carrying goods, riding or leading animals, and selling food. One woman offers, "HOW ABOUT SOME FRESHLY PICKED JUNGLE FRUIT?" while another cheerfully calls, "COME ON, WE'VE GOT SOME FRESH SEA KING MEAT TODAY!!" A final inset reminds the reader that "there is a large hole..." showing the damage and Luffy's arrival point, tying this orderly forbidden country to the intruder who just crashed into it.

The narration continues through scenes of daily life in Amazon Lily: "Of course, all of the work and all of the manual labor is performed by women." Amazon Lily is self-sufficient, physically powerful, and completely organized around women.

A public combat arena roars with spectators and betting. A note says the kanji behind the stage reads "COMBAT," while a caller announces, "ONE THOUSAND FIVE HUNDRED ON PANSY!!" and "TODAY'S ODDS!!" Another bettor shouts, "ONE THOUSAND GOL ON POPPY!!" A board lists odds for fighters including Pansy, Poppy, and Shion. Narration says, "More than anything else, the women of this island are strong." In the arena, two women fight barehanded, one massive and roaring, the other lean and poised; fists crack into bodies as the audience screams "WAAAAAH!!!" and "YAAAH!!!" The narration frames the culture directly: "In this country, strength is beauty." The warning then returns to men: "If a man ever approached this country, he would simply disappear." The combat scene turns the island's law into something physical, showing that Amazon Lily's women do not merely forbid men by custom; they possess the force to enforce it.

The village jail becomes a spectacle when someone shouts, "THE MAN IS WAKING UP!!" The building's sign is marked with kanji for "JAIL," and women crowd outside, saying, "LET ME SEE!" and "I WANNA SEE, TOO!!" Inside, Luffy wakes wrapped in bandages on a bed, yawning "FUAAAAAAH..." and muttering "... MMM..." while the barred window fills with curious faces. Others wonder, "HE WAS SLEEPING FOR A WHILE..." and "BUT I HEARD THAT WHILE HE WAS ASLEEP, HE WAS STILL EATING, DID YOU KNOW?" One asks the basic biological question, "WHAT DO \"MEN\" EAT? MEAT?" Luffy finally snaps at the noise: "... WHAT THE HELL... IT'S SO NOISY..." and the crowd gasps, "AH!! HE TALKED!!"

The women outside the cell demand quiet because "HE'S SAYING SOMETHING!" Luffy sits up slowly, confused: "... HM? WHERE... AM I...?" He asks himself, "... WHAT WAS I DOING...?" and remembers, "AH, THAT'S RIGHT... EVERYONE GOT SPLIT UP AT THE SHABONDY ARCHIPELAGO." He also recalls, "... I CAN REMEMBER UP UNTIL I WAS EATING THAT MUSHROOM..." Then a more immediate crisis hits: "AH... MY HAT'S GONE!!!" A woman spots it and says, "HM? THERE IT IS!" Luffy sees the straw hat outside the bars and yells, "GIVE THAT BACK, BASTARD!!" His arm shoots through the cell with a rubbery stretch and a "CASH!!" grabbing the hat from the startled onlookers. They scream, "HIS ARM STRETCHED!!" while Luffy calmly puts the hat back on and smiles, "AH, THAT'S BETTER." To him it is simple recovery; to the Kuja, the unknown man has just shown an impossible body.

The Kuja crowd erupts in confusion, asking, "WHAT KIND OF TRICK WAS THAT!?" and concluding, "S... SO MEN CAN STRETCH THEIR ARMS!! THAT'S SURPRISING!!" One girl even studies him like a specimen, writing "MEMO MEMO... HOW FASCI-NATING." Luffy tries to get his bearings and answers a question from the bars: "WHAT'S YOUR NAME?" "...? I'M LUFFY!" He then realizes, "AHH! I'M NAKED!! SO SLOW!" Another woman records the false lesson, "MEN ARE DULL AND COVER THEIR HEADS BEFORE THE REST OF THEIR BODIES." A woman asks, "UM, BEFORE YOU GET DRESSED... THAT! WHAT'S IN THAT BAG THING HANGING BETWEEN YOUR LEGS?" The page includes a translation note: "THE LITERAL KANJI IS 'GOLDEN BALLS' FOR 'KINTAMA,' WHICH IS... WELL, 'BALLS.'" Luffy, bewildered by their ignorance, says, "YOU GUYS ARE WEIRD... THESE ARE BALLS!!" The women repeat, "... BALLS...?" and "WHAT DO YOU MEAN 'BALLS'?" Luffy answers as if it is obvious: "ISN'T IT OBVIOUS? THEY'RE BALLS MADE OF GOLD."

The women misunderstand Luffy's joke completely, gasping "GOR-GEOUS!!!" and "GOLDEN BALLS!!?" as if he is carrying treasure. One asks, "COULD YOU TAKE THEM OUT AND SHOW US?" Luffy recoils, furious and embarrassed: "NO, I CAN'T!!! ARE YOU TRYING TO KILL ME!!?" Marguerite then offers clothes through the bars, explaining, "THEN TAKE THESE CLOTHES... YOURS WERE ALL TORN UP, SO I MADE THESE THE SAME SHAPE." Luffy accepts awkwardly: "OHH-- SORRY ABOUT THAT. I DON'T REALLY KNOW WHO YOU ARE, BUT THANKS!" When he puts them on, the outfit is patterned with flowers and trimmed with frills. Marguerite says, "I ADDED SOME SEXY FLOWER FRILLS ON IT, TOO." Another woman approves, "OH YES, IF YOU'RE GOING OUT, THEN IT'S GOT TO HAVE FRILLS! NICE, MARGARET." The crowd mistakes Luffy's horrified trembling for joy: "HE'S SO HAPPY HE'S SHAKING." Luffy can only glare and stammer, "YOU ...!!"

Luffy's patience finally snaps. From inside the jail, he shouts across the village, "I'M A MAN!!!" The declaration sends shock through the Kuja guards, and the armed women rush into motion. One demands, "WHAT!!?" while another calls, "ATTACK FORMA-TION!!!" The outrage is not only that he is male, but that he dares to speak proudly after being treated: "HOW ATROCIOUS!! SO THAT'S YOUR TRUE FACE!!!" Another shouts, "HOW DARE YOU SPEAK LIKE THAT, WITHOUT EVEN THINKING ABOUT YOUR DEBT TO US FOR SAVING YOUR LIFE!" and someone labels him, "WHAT A SAVAGE CREATURE!!" The page shows the warriors surrounding the jail with spears, snake bows, and arrows, long capes and patterned clothing sweeping around them as they close ranks. Luffy, still behind bars in his frilled replacement clothes, realizes too late that asserting himself has turned the village from curious to lethal.

Kikyo takes aim with her bow and condemns Luffy's behavior: "THE ENTIRE TIME WE'VE BEEN SPEAKING WITH YOU, YOU HAVEN'T SHOWN EVEN A SHRED OF REFI-NEMENT!!" She concludes, "IT'S CLEAR THAT YOUR KIND CANNOT COEXIST WITH US...!!" One of the women says, "BUT KIKYOU*, KILLING HIM JUST FOR THAT, I PITY HIM...!" with a footnote glossing the name as "Chinese Bellflower." Luffy grabs the bars and interrupts, "HOLD ON, YOU SAID YOU SAVED MY LIFE!? WHAT HAPPENED? PLEASE TELL ME!!" He learns, "YOU ATE A MUSHROOM THAT WOULD HAVE KILLED YOU. THESE GIRLS FOUND YOU COLLAPSED ON THE GROUND AND SAVED YOU!!" Luffy immediately bows into gratitude and apology: "OH, SO THAT'S WHAT HAPPENED!! THANKS, YOU GUYS!! I'M SORRY FOR COMPLAINING ABOUT THE CLOTHES!! SO DON'T SHOOT!!" Kikyo refuses: "SAVE YOUR APOLOGIES AND YOUR EXCUSES!! THIS IS THE EMPIRE OF WOMEN, AMAZON LILY. FOR HUNDREDS OF YEARS, OUR ABSOLUTE LAW HAS BEEN TO FORBID MEN FROM ENTERING!!! THIS LAW HAS NEVER BEEN BROKEN!!" Luffy absorbs it, stunned: "A COUNTRY OF WOMEN...?"

Luffy looks through the bars at the crowd and finally notices the obvious: "IT'S TRUE... NOW THAT I TAKE A GOOD LOOK, THEY'RE ALL WOMEN... WHAT A WEIRD COUNTRY!" Kikyo hardens the sentence: "NOW THAT YOU'VE REGAINED CONSCIOUSNESS, WE HAVE NO MORE COMPASSION FOR YOU!!!" The three women who rescued him are singled out by name in tense close-ups: "MARGARET..." "SWEETPEA..." "APHELANDRA..." A note explains that the kanji for Lady Hebihime means "Snake Princess." Kikyo says, "IF \"LADY HEBIHIME\" RETURNS... SHE WOULD FIND THIS MAN," and declares, "NO, THIS ENTIRE SITUATION TO BE UN-ACCEPTABLE!!!" She warns the rescuers, "YOU THREE, WHO BROUGHT THIS MAN TO THE VILLAGE, WOULD ALSO BE STAINED WITH SIN!!" Another woman decides, "IT WOULD BE BETTER IF WE COVERED THIS INCIDENT UP!!" The page makes the danger personal: killing Luffy is also a way to protect Marguerite, Sweet Pea, and Aphelandra from punishment.

Kikyo gives the order: "FIRE!!!" Arrows whistle into the jail with sharp impacts while Luffy shouts, "WAIT!! JUST LET ME GO!!" He refuses to stay caged because his promise matters more than the threat: "I PROMISED TO MEET UP WITH MY CREW. I HAVE TO GET THERE!!!" He faces the barred roof and drives upward with a huge burst, smashing through the ceiling while debris sprays out in every direction. From below, the warriors stare up as Luffy crashes through the roof with "ORYAA-AAH!!!" and a massive impact sound. A woman cries, "HE'S BROKEN THROUGH THE ROOF!!!" The page turns Luffy's desperation into action: he is still injured, dressed in borrowed frills, and surrounded by archers, but the thought of the scattered Straw Hats gives him enough force to break out of the village jail rather than submit to execution.

The escape spills across the rooftops. Kuja warriors fire a storm of arrows and shout, "DON'T LET HIM ESCAPE!!!" as Luffy scrambles over the tiles with "UWAH!!!" Arrows streak past him with a "BYUBYUBYU!!" sound while women leap and pursue from the surrounding buildings. Kikyo realizes, "HE'S QUICKER THAN HE LOOKS!!" and calls out, "APHE-LANDRA!!" Aphelandra answers, "RIGHT!!" and joins the chase from above. Luffy darts along the eaves, but the huge warrior closes the distance and crashes into him, striking him through the air. The blow sends him flying with "BUHO!!!" while Aphelandra shouts, "SORRY FOR SAVING YOU EARLIER!!!" The line twists the earlier rescue into a current attack: because the incident must be erased before Lady Hebihime returns, even the woman who carried him to safety now helps stop him.

The chase turns chaotic as Luffy is battered between attackers and rooftops. He suddenly remembers, "AH! THAT'S RIGHT, THE VIVRE CARD IS STILL IN MY OTHER PANTS!" That realization makes him reverse course despite the danger. Kuja warriors shout, "HE'S DOWN!!" as he is knocked or dives back through the melee with sounds like "BASH!!" and "FUGEH..." He spots Marguerite and lunges toward her, shouting through the confusion. A woman points, "THERE SHE IS!!" just as Luffy grabs or carries Marguerite away from the immediate crowd. Marguerite cries, "KYAA!!" and then, as Luffy pulls her along, she shouts, "LET ME GO!! HELP ME!!!" Luffy, focused on his lost card rather than abduction, says, "SORRY, I NEED TO ASK YOU SOMETHING REAL QUICK!!" From below, the warriors misread the scene and cry, "DAMN!!! MARGARET GOT ABDUCTED!!!" The misunderstanding makes his situation even worse.

Luffy and Marguerite tumble away from the village and toward the jungle below the cliffs. In midair, Luffy begins, "GOMU GOMU--" and inflates himself with "BALLOON!!" His body swells into a round rubber cushion, bouncing off the ground with Marguerite thrown nearby as she screams "KYAA!!" The inflated body absorbs the fall with a huge impact, scattering dust and leaves. When Luffy deflates, he checks on her, asking, "HEY! YOU OKAY?" Marguerite, shaken and defensive, scrambles back with her weapon and shouts, "DON'T COME ANY CLOSER!!" She is baffled by his body, asking, "DID YOU... JUST GET FATTER!!?" Luffy stands in the clearing, panting "HAA HAA," while smoke and broken vegetation mark their landing. The fall separates them from the main pursuit for a moment, but Marguerite still sees him as a dangerous, impossible male intruder.

Marguerite steadies herself after the fall and says, "... FALLING FROM THAT HEIGHT... THERE'S SOMETHING STRANGE ABOUT YOU!!" She admits, "... I WAS READY TO FACE MY DEATH...!! IT'S A MIRACLE THAT I'M ALIVE...!!" Luffy, still breathing hard, tells her, "... HAA... STAY BACK..." but then tries to explain: "UH, I DON'T HAVE A VIRUS OR ANYTHING. I DON'T REALLY WANNA EXPLAIN, SO SURE, ALL MEN CAN GET FAT LIKE THAT." Marguerite has heard the rumor that "YOU 'MEN' CARRY A VIRUS!!" and asks, "... CAN ALL MEN... SUDDENLY EXPAND LIKE THAT!?" Luffy cuts to his real concern: "ANYWAY, CHECK THE POCKETS ON MY OLD PANTS." Marguerite holds up the paper and asks, "IS THIS IT?" Luffy sees the writing and cheers, "AHHH!! YEAH, THIS IS IT, THIS IS IT!! THANK GOD!!" He thanks her sincerely: "IF I DIDN'T HAVE THIS... THEN I DON'T KNOW WHAT I WOULD DO!! THANKS FOR HOLDING ONTO IT!!" She says, "IT LOOKED LIKE IT HAD SOMETHING WRITTEN ON IT..."

Luffy shows Marguerite the vivre card in his palm, telling her, "CHECK IT OUT." The paper twitches with "ZURI... ZURI..." and she says, "HOW STRANGE...!! IT LOOKS LIKE IT'S MOVING...!!" Luffy explains, "A LOT OF STUFF HAS HAPPENED! MY NAKAMA ALL GOT SPLIT UP AND WERE SENT FLYING THROUGH THE SKY. THEY'RE ALL STRONG, AFTER ALL. BUT THEY ALL HAVE A PAPER LIKE THIS, SO WE SHOULD BE ABLE TO MEET UP AGAIN." Marguerite listens silently while Luffy smiles and adds, "BUT I REALLY NEED TO THANK YOU FOR ALL YOU'VE DONE. IS THERE ANYTHING I CAN DO FOR YOU!!?" She immediately asks, "THEN CAN YOU TAKE OUT YOUR BALLS AND SHOW THEM TO ME?" Luffy screams, "I TOLD YOU I CAN'T DO THAT!!!" The conversation shifts when she asks, "WHAT KIND OF NAKAMA ARE THEY...? DO YOU KNOW WHAT PIRATES ARE?" Luffy answers, "AH, I'M A PIRATE!!" Marguerite replies, "... YOU'RE A PIRATE? OUR EMPRESS IS A PIRATE, TOO." When Luffy asks if her crew is all-female and strong, she says that warriors are chosen from throughout the kingdom to serve on the pirate ship, so of course they are strong.

Marguerite speaks proudly of the island's ruler: "EVERYBODY IN THE COUNTRY LOVES LADY HEBIHIME. SHE'S STRONG, ELEGANT, AND THE MOST BEAUTIFUL WOMAN IN THE WORLD!!!" She names her as "THE PIRATE \"EMPRESS,\" BOA HANCOCK... ALONG WITH HER TWO SISTERS, HAVE FIERCELY GUARDED OUR ISLAND." The scene cuts to the sea, where a ship silhouette is already approaching; someone warns, "THIS IS BAD!! LADY HEBIHIME'S SHIP IS ALREADY DRAWING CLOSE!!" Back in the village, the warriors realize Luffy and Marguerite have fled into the jungle. One reports, "KIKYOU, IT DEFINITELY LOOKS LIKE THAT MAN DESCENDED INTO THE JUNGLE." Kikyo answers, "THIS IS TERRIBLE...!! WE NEED TO TAKE CARE OF THIS 'MAN' INCIDENT QUICKLY!!" The order rings out: "WARRIORS! INTO THE JUNGLE!! TAKE CARE OF THE MAN AND RESCUE MARGARET!!" The closing shout, "LADY HEBIHIME IS RETURNING!!!" raises the stakes: Luffy's presence must be hidden before the beloved empress arrives.
