DIAL BATTLE

The Going Merry is docked in the forest of Upper Yard. An off-screen voice says, "BECAUSE THE CITIZENS OF THE BLUE SEA ARE QUITE INCAPABLE OF SKY COMBAT." Another voice asks, "SKY COMBAT?" The first voice continues, "WHEN WE FIRST MET, I PRESENTED MYSELF TO YOU AS A MERCENARY..." On the deck of the ship, Sanji stands holding a large wooden mallet, looking at a barrel with a small shell placed on top of it. Gan Fall sits nearby, instructing him. Nami and Usopp watch closely. Gan Fall says, "YOU WILL KNOW SOON ENOUGH. TRY TO BREAK THAT SHELL." Sanji asks, "WHAT IS THIS THING FOR?" Gan Fall replies, "NOW, WATCH CLOSELY." Sanji winds up to swing the mallet. Usopp panics, yelling, "WAIT-!! DO YOU HAVE TO SWING SO HARD!!?" Sanji calmly says, "...WELL, HERE I GO..." Usopp shouts, "DON'T SAY THAT JUST 'CAUSE THIS AIN'T YOUR SHIP...!!!" Sanji tells him, "HIT IT AS HARD AS YOU CAN." Usopp threatens, "DO IT GENTLY, SANJI!! IF YOU MAKE A HOLE IN THE DECK, I'LL KILL YOU!!!"

Sanji swings the heavy mallet down with all his might, striking the shell on the barrel directly. A starburst impact effect appears with a "!!?" sound. Sanji looks at the mallet in confusion, noting, "I SWUNG AS HARD AS I COULD. I THOUGHT IT'D BREAK INTO PIECES." He adds, "HUH?" Gan Fall observes, "STRANGE..." Nami scolds Sanji, "...I TOLD YOU GENTLY, BUT NOT THAT GENTLY..." Usopp points out, "YOU DIDN'T EVEN DAMAGE THE BARREL..." Nami has a question mark above her head. A close-up shows the shell sitting completely intact on the barrel, with small wisps of smoke rising from it. Gan Fall explains, "IT'S AS IF THIS DIAL... ABSORBED ALL THE IMPACT SOMEHOW..."

Gan Fall continues his instructions to Sanji, "AND PRESS THE PART YOU'RE FACING... NOW AIM THE OPEN SIDE OF THE DIAL AT THE BARREL..." Usopp and Nami watch with nervous anticipation, saying, "EH!!?" Sanji holds the dial in his hand, aiming it at the barrel, and presses the back of it. Suddenly, a massive, violent explosion of force erupts from the dial, completely obliterating the barrel into splinters. The blast is accompanied by a loud "BOOM!!" sound effect. Sanji is caught off guard, exclaiming "!!?" as the sheer force of the blast sends him flying backward. He crashes hard onto the wooden deck of the ship with a loud clatter. Usopp and Nami scream in terror, "GYAAAA-AAAH!!!" and "KYAAH!!!" as debris flies everywhere. Usopp, despite his fear, yells, "WOW!!!"

The smoke clears on the deck. Sanji is sitting up, recovering from being blown backward. Usopp and Nami peek cautiously over the railing. Gan Fall sits calmly amidst the scattered splinters of the destroyed barrel. A close-up shows the dial resting on the deck, emitting small wisps of smoke. Gan Fall explains, "IT ABSORBS AND STORES ENERGY FROM IMPACTS TO BE RELEASED LATER. WAS AN 'IMPACT DIAL.' WHAT YOU SAW..." Sanji sits on the deck, looking down thoughtfully. He recalls the fight with Satori, the meatball priest, who used a similar device hidden under his glove. Sanji thinks, "THIS IS DIFFERENT FROM A MERE PUNCH. THIS IS AN 'IMPACT'!!!" He says aloud, "...YEAH... THAT MEATBALL PRIEST WAS USING THE SAME THING... REMIND YOU OF SOMETHING? EH, USOPP, DOESN'T THAT..." Gan Fall elaborates, "THEY ARE USUALLY FIXED TO THE PALM UNDER A GLOVE OR A BANDAGE. A DIRECT HIT IS ENOUGH TO KILL A NORMAL PERSON."

Gan Fall continues his explanation of the dials. "IT WAS A DOUBLE-EDGED SWORD. THEREFORE, IT WAS RARELY USED. IT IS ALSO SAID, HOWEVER, THAT THE DIAL WAS SO STRONG THAT IT COULD KILL THE USER. FOR EXAMPLE, THE NOW EXTINCT 'REJECT DIAL' HAD A POWER 10 TIMES STRONGER THAN AN 'IMPACT DIAL'. ACCORDING TO LEGENDS, THERE EXISTED EVEN MORE POWERFUL DIALS ON SKY ISLAND." Usopp angrily yells at Gan Fall, "WHY DIDN'T YOU TELL ME EARLIER!!? IT SCARED THE HECK OUT OF ME!!" Nami remarks, "...WHAT A DANGEROUS DIAL... IT MIGHT AS WELL BE CALLED A WEAPON!" Gan Fall adds, "BUT THEY CAN ALSO BE DEVASTATING IN BATTLES....DIALS ARE VERY USEFUL, THAT'S TRUE... CAN ALSO HARM MAN. IT IS ALL UP TO THE USER'S INTENTIONS. THAT IS STILL TRUE - HOWEVER, ANY TOOL THAT BENEFITS MAN..." Nami says, "I THOUGHT THAT THE DIALS WERE JUST LIKE EVERYDAY ACCESSORIES..." Gan Fall gives more examples, "IF EQUIPPED IN A BIRD'S MOUTH, A RARE AND POWERFUL 'FIRE-BREATHING BIRD' IS BORN. THE SAME GOES FOR A 'FLAME DIAL' THAT STORES FLAMES... WHEN EQUIPPED ON A LANCE, A SUPER-HEATED 'FIRE LANCE' IS CREATED. THE 'HEAT DIAL' USED FOR COOKING... FOR EXAMPLE..." Usopp recalls, "I THINK CHOPPER MENTIONED THOSE BEFORE..."

Sanji asks Gan Fall another question, "WHAT ABOUT THAT MIND READING MANTRA? WAIT A MINUTE... NOR ABOUT THE ARTIFICIAL CLOUDS... DON'T STAND A CHANCE AGAINST WARRIORS PERFECTLY TRAINED TO THEM. CORRECT. THE CITIZENS OF THE BLUE SEA, WHO ARE NOT AWARE OF THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF DIALS... SO THAT'S WHAT 'SKY COMBATS' ARE!" Gan Fall explains Mantra, "IT IS SAID TO BE A POWER OF PERCEPTION. EVERY HUMAN WOULD EMIT A KIND OF VOICE INSIDE THEIR BODY. AS I DO NOT KNOW HOW TO USE MANTRA MYSELF... IT'S QUITE HARD FOR ME TO EXPLAIN IT." He continues, "I DO NOT KNOW THE LOGIC BEHIND THAT POWER EITHER... THE PRIESTS ARE THEN ABLE TO HEAR EVERYTHING THAT HAPPENS ON UPPER YARD. ENEL CAN EXTEND THE RANGE FURTHER TO COVER EVERY SOUND IN THIS ENTIRE COUNTRY. IT'S A TERRIFYING POWER!" Sanji asks, "A VOICE?" Gan Fall confirms, "YES. ONE CAN PREDICT A PERSON'S NEXT MOVE BY LISTENING TO IT. WITH TRAINING, IT SEEMS THAT THE RANGE OF MANTRA CAN BE INCREASED..."

Enel is shown lounging comfortably, resting his head on his hand. He remarks, "SHURA WAS DEFEATED. WELL, WELL, THAT'S KIND OF A SURPRISING BEGINNING..." A wide shot shows Enel's grand shrine complex in the clouds. Enel continues, "THE FOOL UNDERESTIMATED HIS OPPONENTS TOO MUCH. YAHAHA HAHAHA..." An off-screen voice yells in shock, "WHAT!!? SHURA-SAMA!!?" Enel laughs heartily, his mouth wide open, "GOD WASN'T ON THEIR SIDE! IT SEEMS THAT... YAHAHA-HAHAHA-HAHA!!!" Yama, a large man with a dark beard and wings, sweats nervously and says, "...YEAH! IT CAN'T BE HELPED IF THEY GOT BEAT UP. THIS... THIS IS TERRIBLE NEWS! IN TWO DAYS, TWO PRIESTS HAVE FALLEN! THEY HAVE BEEN UNDEFEATED FOR THE LAST SIX YEARS."

Yama addresses a large gathering of Enel's forces. He shouts, "THERE'S NO NEED FOR THE PRIESTS TO DIRTY THEIR HANDS FOR SUCH A SMALL FIGHT! THE ENEMIES ARE ONLY 20 SHANDIANS AND 7 CITIZENS OF THE BLUE SEA! EVERYONE! LISTEN TO ME! LET'S GO KILL THEM ALL!!" A massive army of winged soldiers, all wearing similar robes and horned hats, stands ready. They raise their weapons and cheer, "MEEEH-!!" A caption box identifies them: "- Skypiea - God's militia, 50 fighters."

Wiper is shown with a fierce, determined expression. He says, "ONLY THEN SHOULD YOU COME WITH ME!! IF YOU ARE READY TO STEP ON YOUR COMRADES..." In a separate location, Nico Robin looks resolute. She states, "I'M GOING TO CUT OFF ENEL'S HEAD. BECAUSE TODAY," She is shown holding a handful of dark soil, letting it sift through her fingers. "A BAGFUL OF VEARTH!!! THERE WILL BE NO NEED TO BE ENVIOUS OF..." She sits on a fallen log in the forest, looking at the soil in her hand. "ONCE WE DEFEAT ENEL..."

A large bird, Fuza, flies away over the dense forest canopy, squawking "KUKA KAKA KAKA KA!!". Below, the priest Shura lies defeated on the ground, his body smoking and heavily injured after a massive blast. A Shandia warrior, Kamakiri, yells in panic, "YOU'LL BLOW UP!! IF YOU USE YOUR 'REJECT DIAL' ONE MORE TIME... WAIPA!! YOU IDIOT! YOU WANT TO DIE!!?" Wiper stands nearby, his right arm heavily bandaged and smoking from the recoil of using the Reject Dial. He looks exhausted but intensely determined.

Wiper holds his large bazooka over his shoulder, his face marked with determination and sweat. He says, "THAT'S WHAT ONE CALLS DETERMINATION." In the forest, the Shandia warriors engage in battle. Braham fires his twin pistols with "SHWIP!!!" and "FWOP!!!" sounds. Wiper fires his bazooka, creating a large explosion. He yells, "IF YOU WON'T MAKE SOME SACRIFICES, HOW WILL YOU DEFEAT THEM!!?" Another Shandia warrior, Genbo, walks through the forest carrying his own large weapon, muttering, "WHAT A FOOL..."

Genbo, a large Shandia warrior wearing a thick coat, commands, "LET'S SPLIT UP. THERE ARE STILL TWO MORE PRIESTS. WE ARE IN ENEMY TERRITORY. BRAHAM... QUIT SAND-BAGGING IT..." Kamakiri dashes off into the forest, saying, "I'M OFF!! WE CAN'T LET THAT KIND OF HUMILIATION HAPPEN AGAIN. WE WOULDN'T WANT TO GET STUCK ALL TOGETHER... IT SEEMS THEY HAVE MODIFIED THEIR TRIAL TERRITORIES..." As he runs, he calls back, "I WISH YOU ALL GOOD LUCK, MY BROTHERS!!!" Braham, wearing goggles and a hat, replies casually, "WHATEVER, THEN. OK! I GOT THAT."

Genbo holds his bazooka and says, "LET'S MEET AGAIN IN GOD'S SHRINE!!" A large, white, dog-like creature with a striped hat is shown. A voice says, "...WELL THEN... TAKE CARE, EVERYONE." A massive explosion rocks the forest, sending debris and dust flying into the air. A defeated figure lies on the ground. Raki, a female Shandia warrior, rides her waver through the forest. She hears a sound, "MEEH-", and looks back, "HM?"

A member of God's Militia leaps from the trees, attacking Raki. She dodges, exclaiming, "WAH!!" She looks at her attacker and asks, "ARE YOU FROM THE MILITIA...?" The militia member lands and poses, saying, "HESO!!" Raki demands, "WHO IS THAT!? WHAT DID YOU DO!?" The militia member, wearing a horned hat and wings, raises a hand equipped with a dial. "THERE IS NOWHERE TO RUN FROM THE 50 ELITE FIGHTERS OF THE MILITIA!!! PLEASE ENJOY THE DIAL WHICH CAN'T BE FOUND ANYWHERE ELSE ON SKYPIEA, THE 'AXE DIAL!!' MEH-!! THAT'S RIGHT!! UNDER ENEL'S DIRECT ORDERS... WE SHALL CLEAN UP THE MESS IN UPPER YARD. MEH-!!"

The militia member attacks with the Axe Dial, creating sharp, invisible blades of force. "BY THE SHARP STRING OF THE AXE DIAL!! MEEEH-!!" "YAAH!!!" "MUUN!!!" Genbo steps in, blocking the attack with his bazooka. "OUT OF MY WAY!!" "HNNG!!!" Genbo then fires his bazooka at point-blank range, blasting the militia member away with a massive explosion. "YOUR LITTLE SHIELD IS USELESS!!!" The militia member stands amidst the defeated bodies of several Shandia warriors, looking menacing.

Luffy strolls casually through the forest, carrying a large stick over his shoulder and singing a cheerful song. "THEIR BRAINS ARE MEEEELTING-♪ LA LA LA LA LA- THE SOUTHERN- ISLAND IS REALLY WARM-♪" He stops when he spots a strange figure in the distance. "A GOAT? IS IT REALLY A GOAT?" The figure, a member of God's Militia, says, "MEH-" Luffy looks closer, his eyes wide with surprise. "I CAN'T BELIEVE IT... A GOAT IN THE FOREST!!!?" The militia member, insulted, yells loudly, "MEEEH-!!!"

Luffy immediately stretches his arm back and delivers a powerful punch straight into the militia member's face. "GRRR!!!" "!!!?" The impact sends the militia member flying backward, crashing violently into a large tree trunk with a loud "CRASH!!!". Luffy stands there, looking annoyed and disappointed. "JEEZE! WHERE DID THIS ONE COME FROM? THAT WAS A SILLY JOKE TO MAKE. MADE ME EXCITED FOR NOTHING."

Luffy continues his walk through the forest, resuming his song. "THEIR BRAINS ARE FREEEEZING♪ NOR-THERN- ISLAND IS REALLY COLD-♪" Suddenly, Wiper appears behind him, holding his bazooka. "HM?" Wiper points his weapon at Luffy and demands, "WHAT ARE YOU STILL DOING HERE, BRAT?" Luffy turns his head, recognizing him. "AH! YOU AGAIN."
