Chapter color title spread: Chapter 547, "Escape from the Island." Luffy, Jimbei, Crocodile, Mr. 1, Buggy, Mr. 3, Bon Clay, Ivankov and other escape allies are drawn in a bright picnic-like scene with food, drink, swords and exaggerated laughter. The image is a celebratory title illustration rather than a literal continuation of the Impel Down battle, but it frames the chapter around the uneasy escape team that has formed around Luffy.

At the front entrance, Magellan reveals that his new poison is a forbidden technique that could destroy Impel Down itself. Mr. 3 panics, shouting, "Oh crap, oh crap, let's run, Strawhat!!!" Luffy still tries to attack with "Gomu Gomu... Stamp!!!" but Mr. 3 warns him not to be reckless because the wax will not work on Magellan anymore. Luffy releases the Doru Doru armor and barely escapes the attack, breathing hard while Magellan begins calling out "Venom Demon..."

Magellan completes the technique, "Hell's Judgment!!!" and forms a gigantic venom demon that looms over the corridor. Prisoners scream and run as the poison spreads. A wounded prisoner asks for help, but another yells, "Idiot, don't touch me!!" because even contact with the poisoned victims is dangerous. Someone shouts that the poison is spreading, and another realizes that it does not matter if something is wax or stone because the poison is infectious and gradually spreading through it. Luffy understands that the Doru Doru armor is now totally useless.

At the Impel Down front entrance, the wounded prisoners wonder what happened to Strawhat and the others. They can hear cannon fire in the fog and ask what is going on with the battleships. One prisoner says Jimbei and the others should be able to steal a battleship, but they are far away, and once they capture the ship they still have to bring it back. Another worries that Magellan may arrive before then. They acknowledge that Luffy is strong, but ask whether he can really hold out against a beast like Magellan. The plea goes out across the water: "Hurry, Jimbei!!!"

On the battleship, Marines order each other to push the intruders into the sea and not let them take the ship. Mr. 1 cuts through attackers and rails, prompting a Marine to shout, "What's with his body!? It's... made of blades!?" Crocodile identifies the power as the Supa Supa Fruit. The Marines also remember that Mr. 1 is the assassin Daz from West Blue. While the sea around the ship churns with cannon fire and distant movement, the boarding team keeps tearing through the deck defenses.

Mr. 1's spinning blade attack hurls Marines across the deck as they scream. One Marine says it is only a matter of time until the pirates take the ship, and another says it would be a disgrace to the Marines if they let that happen, so they should sink the ship now. The order to prepare to fire is given, but the rising water shape offshore makes a Marine say, "That's the same thing from before...!!" The Marines are caught between losing the vessel to Crocodile's group and destroying it themselves.

A huge splash drenches the ship and soaks the gunpowder, ruining the cannon plan. Marines shout, "Damn, the gunpowder is soaked!!" and Jimbei follows by ordering them to use the other cannons and shoot him. At the same time, back at Impel Down's first floor and sea-surface front entrance, the waiting prisoners cry for Jimbei, Crocodile and Captain Buggy to hurry because Magellan is right behind them. Buggy suddenly hears a voice and shouts, "That's Straw-chan's voice!!!"

At the front entrance, Magellan's venom demon breaks through the structure as prisoners scream, "Run away!!!" and ask where the ship is. Someone asks what is chasing them, and the answer is immediate: it is Magellan, and there is nowhere left to run. Bon Clay yells to Luffy that the ship is not here yet. Luffy turns in shock as the poison closes the distance, making the whole escape depend on whether Jimbei's group can arrive in time.

On Level 1, Ivankov suddenly returns with "Hell... Wink!!!" and blasts through the floor and wall, knocking rubble loose around the entrance. Luffy and Bon Clay stare in surprise, while prisoners below cry out that it surprised them. The impact opens a path and throws the escape line into new motion, interrupting Magellan's cornering of the prisoners. Iva's return confirms that the miracle worker survived the fight below and has caught up at the most dangerous moment.

Ivankov lands exhausted, saying, "It... it looks like I made it..." and then faints because the blow hit the back of Iva's head. Bon Clay and the prisoners cheer that Iva and Inazuma are alive. Magellan notices them and says, "Those guys..." Just then the mini Den Den Mushi rings, and Luffy hears Jimbei's voice. Jimbei says they are here but still being chased, and tells Luffy they have one ship, though it will take time to get there. Buggy brags over the line that they did well, while Crocodile dryly asks why Buggy even came.

Jimbei tells the prisoners not to stop: go straight and jump toward the ocean, taking everybody with them. The prisoners panic that this is the Calm Belt and ask what the hell he is saying. Luffy tells them to do what Jimbei says and asks Mr. 3 to help him buy a little more time. When someone says Jimbei is with the government and they cannot trust a fishman, Luffy answers that Jimbei is Ace's friend and says, "I trust him!!!" Magellan's "Hell's Judgment" bears down on them while prisoners scream that a single drop of poison will finish them.

Luffy activates "Gear Third" and prepares "Gomu Gomu... Gigant Stamp!!!" while Mr. 3 builds a "Special Service Giant Candle Wall!!!" in front of him. Magellan dismisses the effort as pointless, but the giant wax-and-rubber strike pushes back the Venom Demon. Prisoners shout that Luffy pushed it back, though the poison is eating through the wall. Luffy calls for Iva-chan to get up, and Ivankov, still dazed, tells him to do his wink. The escapees force a brief opening against Magellan's advancing poison.

Ivankov warns Luffy that if he sends everyone into the ocean with no ship, there is no way they will survive, but Luffy says he will not let them go anyway. The prisoners tell everyone to hold tight and even to hold onto Iva's face. Ivankov unleashes "Wink!!!" and blasts the mass of escapees out from the front entrance over the water. As they fly, prisoners panic that something is under the ship, then realize they are riding on something. Buggy says his apologies for calling these dangerous waters, while Luffy notices shapes below.

A school of whale sharks rises beneath the escaping prisoners. Jimbei calls, "Bring them over here!!!" while the whale sharks carry the fugitives safely across the Calm Belt. Luffy beams and says Jimbei must have called them there, and that he is pretty awesome. The huge spread shows the whale sharks surrounding Impel Down's waters and turning the impossible ocean escape into a route. Jimbei's command of the sea gives the prisoners the missing bridge between the island and the stolen ship.

SBS question corner page. A reader asks about chapter 526, page 5, panel 4, where Luffy slips into Impel Down and appears to be in Hancock's skirt rather than her mantle, joking that the inside of a skirt is holy ground. Oda says Luffy was hiding inside her China dress and that if the mantle fluttered he would have been found immediately, while tightly hiding under the clothes would have meant certain death if discovered. Another reader asks whether a raccoon and a reindeer would give birth to Chopper, and Oda says yes while pretending his nosebleed came from falling down. A third reader asks how Crocodile had his own clothes and cigar after being freed. Oda explains that prisoners' belongings are stored somewhere, Kamaland residents steal from there, and once the escapees stopped by Kamaland, prisoners could get someone's clothes; Crocodile is very stylish.
