A story and character recap summarizes the road to Thriller Bark. It explains the age of pirates, Luffy's dream to become Pirate King, the Straw Hats' journey through the Grand Line, their arrival on the Thousand Sunny, their encounter with Brook, and the mystery of the Florian Triangle. It also lays out the Thriller Bark conflict: Gecko Moria, one of the Shichibukai, steals shadows and implants them into zombies made by Doctor Hogback. Brook and the Straw Hats lose their shadows, Luffy's shadow is placed into the legendary "Demon" Oz, and dawn becomes the deadline. The page also lists major players: Moria, Hogback, Absalom, Perona, Cindry, Hildon, Shanks, Brook, Oars, Jigoro, Inuppe, Ryuma, and the Straw Hat crew.

The chapter title page is a full-color underwater fantasy illustration for Chapter 471, "My Friend." The Straw Hats ride smiling sea creatures through a submerged city while a crowned whale glides behind them and fish stream through the ruins. The scene is decorative rather than part of the Thriller Bark battle, but it establishes the chapter title and shows the crew together in a bright, friendly image before the story returns to the damaged mansion.

The story returns to the wreckage of Thriller Bark, where Oars stands over the ruined town after crushing most of the Straw Hats. He pauses with a low "..." and begins counting who is still missing. Looking at the wanted posters and the memories carried by Luffy's shadow, he says, "That leaves..." and names them one by one: "The 'Strawhat' from before," "The 'Orange Woman'," and "The 'Cool Hero.'" From the shattered streets, Oars wonders aloud, "Three more, huh..." then scans the broken buildings and asks, "Where are they?" Around his feet, the fallen crew lies battered in the rubble, but the monster is not satisfied because Luffy, Nami, and Franky are still unaccounted for.

Elsewhere inside the devastated mansion, Perona wakes with a startled cry: "HA!!!" A zombie immediately shouts, "Oh!! She's awake!!" Around her, panicked servants scatter through the rubble. They call, "Waaah, stop with the hammer!!" and "Perona-sama!!" while another begs, "P-Perona-sama!! Wait...!!" A voice insists, "I hate cockroaches! Get them off of me! Hurry and get them away!!!" Another servant tries to calm the chaos: "Please look around!! There's nothing here!!" Perona, dazed, asks, "Sto..." then "?" and "This is..." When they tell her, "The enemy's gone!! You lost consciousness and collapsed!!" she crawls through the broken room and asks, "What happened to you!? Who did this!?"

Perona steps out into the wreckage and sees the mansion gutted around her. She asks, "What happened to the mansion...!? Did those pirates do this!?" The answer terrifies her more than the question: "The pirates are rampaging about, but this was done by Oz!!!" Perona repeats, "Oz!?" The servants explain, "Well... we've heard that... the general zombies were completely wiped out by Oz!" Perona reels: "!? Our strongest fighters!? Can't we control Oz at all!?" Then Oars's rampage crashes close by with a huge "Gumaaaaaa!!!" and Perona sees the destruction firsthand. As zombie brothers are tossed through the debris, someone screams, "Kyaaaa!! You guys!!" while another starts, "No, that's..."

Perona watches Oars from the rubble and finally realizes how badly the situation has turned. She cries, "O...!! Oz!?" A servant adds an awful detail: "Ah... n... now that you mention it, he also stepped on Lord Hogback!!" Perona snaps, "What!?" while Oars, still searching, notices, "That woman's not here?" Perona's fear turns into a decision. She says, "'Woman'...!! Th... this is bad!! We've got to get out of here!! Oz and those pirates are going to totally destroy Thriller Bark!!!" She orders, "Hurry, go get the treasure and some supplies!! We're going to load up those pirates' ship and run!!!" Her servants obey at once: "Hurry!!" and "Yes, ma'am!! Right away!!!"

The scene cuts to the ceremonial hall, labeled "just some empty room," where the zombie priest resumes the interrupted wedding with, "Now then, we'll continue with the 'Binding Kiss.'" The note explains that the phrase means that if they kiss, they are fulfilling an oath or vow. Nami, dressed as a bride, wakes with a sharp breath, "Ha..." and then the horror lands: "!" Absalom lunges down toward her mouth, and Nami screams, "Eh... EHHHH--!?" She kicks and twists as the zombies restrain her. Someone yells, "What!?" and the others shout, "Wait, wait, what's going on!?" "Kyaaaa!!" "Nuu, you're awake!?" and "Stop!!"

The zombies pile onto Nami to force the ceremony through. They shout, "Come on, give it up!!!" and one declares, "With this kiss, you'll become my wife!!!" Another orders, "I told you no, you invisible perverted animal!!!" Nami fights back, yelling, "I'm not ready for this; I still want to go on adventures!!" Absalom refuses to listen: "Be silent and rejoice!! You'll become the Graveyard King's wife!! The queen of the graveyard!!!" Nami cries, "What!? No!" Then the room explodes with a massive "CRUSH" as Lola bursts into the hall. She roars, "Namizou, you bastard!!!" while the zombies scatter, screaming, "Waaa!!!" and "Uo!!"

Lola appears in full bridal fury, and Nami can only whisper, "Lo..." before Usopp's earlier lie comes back to life around her. One zombie cries, "Lolaaa!!!" Lola points at Nami and screams, "Namizou!! You...!! How dare you steal my man!!! You were lying about supporting my love, weren't you!?" Nami tries to explain: "Wait... hold on a second, Lola!!! I... I was unconscious!" but Lola keeps going: "You were just trying to steal away my dear Ab the entire time!!" Nami looks down at the wedding dress and says, "Ah!! I have no idea what's... Why are you wearing a wedding dress!? It's lovely, by the way." Lola refuses the compliment and charges: "No, it's not lovely at all!!! You traitor!!!" Nami shouts, "Kyaaaa!!! Wait, it's all just a misunderstanding!!!"

From above, Absalom rages, "Lola!!! On top of barging in and ruining the ceremony, what are you doing to my bride!?" Lola snaps back, "Shut up!!! Let's get married." Absalom refuses, "I refuse!!!" Trying to save Nami, a zombie reveals, "My dear Ab, you didn't know, right!? Her real name is 'Namizou,' and she's actually..." Nami remembers her own lie with a tiny "I did say that..." and the truth lands: "A man!!!" The room screams, "Whaaaat!!?" Absalom processes the contradiction and mutters, "But when she was in the bath, I was sure..." while Lola grabs him again. Absalom yells, "Get out of here, Namizou!!!" and Nami shouts, "Hey!! Stop it!!" as the fight tears through the hall.

Nami sees the opening. Lola swings at Absalom and calls, "Run, Namizou!! I'll slow him down!!" Nami notices, "She's not hitting...!?" but understands that Lola is still trying to help. Lola turns to her and says, "I came to help you, my friend!!" Nami softly answers, "Lola..." Then Lola declares to Absalom, "Now, Absalom!! Now that you know the truth, you can get married to me!!!" Absalom's servants panic: "The bride is right here!!" "She is, without a doubt, a woman, Lola!! Now..." and "The bride...!! She's escaping!!" Nami bolts from the ceremony, the hem of the wedding dress flying behind her as she chooses trust over fear and runs because Lola is protecting her.

Absalom barrels after Nami and Lola, roaring, "Get out of the way!!!" Lola takes the hit and is smashed aside while Nami screams, "Lola!!!" Absalom, exhausted and furious, staggers through the debris and curses, "Damn zombie...!! Making me expend this much effort!!" The impact flings Lola across the room with another crash, and the page lets the comedy drop into danger: Lola is a zombie, but she is also Nami's protector in this moment, and Absalom is willing to hurt her to reclaim his stolen ceremony. The wrecked hall fills with dust, broken stone, and Nami's alarm as the invisible man pushes through everything between himself and the fleeing bride.

Absalom catches up and reaches for Nami, boasting through his breath, "Oh... you wised up... haa... and stopped running. No matter where you run, you can't escape. I'm an 'invisible man.'" Nami stands her ground instead of fleeing. The memory of Lola's words, "I came to help you, my friend!!" hardens her expression. Absalom snarls, "How dare you do that to Lola." Then Nami raises her Clima-Tact and calls, "Thunder Charge"!! Absalom, still arrogant, opens his arms and says, "That's right, come jump into my arms." Nami's weapon hums with a charged "Fzzzzz" as she prepares not to embrace him, but to strike him for hurting Lola.

Nami attacks with "Swing Arm"!!! The Clima-Tact slams into Absalom and electricity bursts through him, but the hit does not drop him immediately. Nami admits, "It didn't work...!!" then adds, "But I knew that already..." Absalom's body smokes as he falls backward through the ruined hall, knocked down hard enough to crash across the floor. Nami's expression makes clear that this strike was not based on blind confidence; she already knew from earlier at the bridge that Absalom was tough enough to survive her attacks. Still, the blow creates the opening she needs, and the room pauses around the fallen invisible man.

The aftermath settles over the ceremonial hall. Nami looks at Absalom's collapsed body and asks herself, "...?" Then she explains what she has learned: "It didn't work at all when we fought at the bridge..." and wonders, "Why?" Nearby, Sanji's zombie counterpart Inuppe understands the reason: "I knew it... he was already past his limits after his fight with that man... That makes sense..." Nami decides not to overthink it. Raising the Clima-Tact, she announces, "Well, whatever!! I won!!" and guesses, "I must have hit a weak spot or something!!" It is a practical, comic victory, but it also matters: Absalom's obsession ends here because Nami stands up, fights for Lola, and claims the win.

Nami immediately returns to Lola. She kneels by the wounded zombie and calls, "Lola!! Are you okay? Get a grip!!" Then she says, "Thank you for coming to help me!!" Lola, still breathing hard, answers, "Haa... What are you saying, Namizou...? We're friends." Nami confesses the truth at last: "But I... I was scared, and I lied to you!! I'm really sorry!! I'm a woman!!" Lola smiles through the damage and replies, "You fool. I knew all along." Nami says her name, "Lola." The friendship does not break. Lola's real concern is still romance: "More importantly!! My dear Ab can't resist now, right!? You're going to be a groom, Absalom!!!" The page turns the chapter title into the emotional punchline: Lola knew, forgave, and helped anyway.

Outside, Oars is still searching the ruins and cannot remember the last missing name. He calls, "Are you here!? Come on out, you leftovers!" then asks himself, "What was his name again?" He guesses, "Umm... I think it was... Ross." Another thought corrects him: "No, I'm sure it ended with a 'Z.'" He tries again: "Huez?" "No, that's way off!!" "Oss?" "Hmm? No, it's still missing something!!" Finally he lands on it: "It's 'Oz.' That's it!!!" From the rubble, Franky groans, "M... my apologies, my body... Ah, I guess there's no helping it. Can you move a bit? Just out of the way." Then a voice calls, "Hey, Oz!! If you've got Luffy's shadow in you..." Oars turns as the surviving Straw Hats gather, and the warning comes straight at him: "You shouldn't be underestimating your own crew's strength!!!"

The SBS page begins with Oda greeting readers: "Hello!! Is everyone doing well!!? I'm the writer, and I got here first. I won't let anyone else take my place!! Now, I'd like to get the question corner started! Ready, set, SBS!! Stars...!! Shoot, I messed up... There should be a 'T' at the end... A 'T'... Ahh, I'm just no good...!! If I could be born again... I want... to be the wall in a woman's bath... <<- full of hope>" A reader asks to team with Usopp as the ultimate fool and straight man, and Oda suggests the name "Tekizen Toubou," or "Flees From Enemies." Another reader asks why Robin called Nami "Nami-chan" in chapter 460 but now uses "Navigator-san." Oda explains that Robin has fundamentally decided to call Nami by her name, but after Enies Lobby she has started opening her heart, and he wants those small details to matter.
