The Skies Above the Capital

High in the stormy sky, Momonosuke struggles inside a swirling mass of flame clouds. A woman with a flower in her hair shouts desperately, 'YOU CAN DO IT, MOMONOSUKE-KUN!!' and 'MAKE THOSE FLAME CLOUDS!!' while another panel shows her crying 'AN OUTBURST OF FAITH...!!' Momonosuke yells 'THIS IS IMPOSSIBLE!!' Kin'emon's voice urges 'GO WITH KIN'EMON AND THE OTHERS...' as the young dragon plummets. The chapter title 'CHAPTER 1047: THE SKIES ABOVE THE CAPITAL' appears in the center. Below, the woman insists 'I AM CERTAIN YOU WILL BE ABLE TO REVIVE THE KOZUKI CLAN...' as Momonosuke screams 'I CAN'T...!!' and 'I CAN'T...!!...AFTER YOU LEAP 20 YEARS INTO THE FUTURE!'

Kin'emon stands tall, shouting with fierce conviction, "NO MAN SHOULD QUESTION THE RESOLVE OF A WOMAN WHO SPEAKS WITH SUCH CONVICTION!! NOTHING COULD BE MORE SHAMEFUL!!" He continues, "THIS IS THE LAND OF SAMURAI!! WHEN ONE SUFFERS A GREAT FAILURE HERE, THEIR LIFE IS USUALLY FORFEIT!!" In the next panel he pleads toward Momonosuke, "MOMONOSUKE-SAMA!! THINK ABOUT YOUR MOTHER'S FEELINGS!!" Hiyori kneels nearby with Momonosuke as an unseen voice warns, "IF I HAVE TO GO, YOU AND HIYORI SHOULD COME WITH ME, MOTHER!" Kin'emon drops to his knees and bows deeply, declaring, "MY LORD, WITH ALL DUE RESPECT, WITH LORD ODEN GONE, YOU ARE NO LONGER JUST HIS HEIR!! IF I CAN SPEAK FREELY... CAN'T YOU GIVE US THAT CHANCEI! I WOULD DO ANYTHING TO WIELD MY SWORD FOR YOU, MY LORD!!" A massive close-up shows Kin'emon's tear-streaked, determined face as he roars, "...THAN WAIT HERE AND BURN TO DEATH!! I BEG YOU TO GIVE US ANOTHER CHANCE TO FIGHT!! I WOULD RATHER DIE WITH HONOR ON A BATTLEFIELD..."

Hiyori's eyes widen in shock as she whispers, "MOTHER..." while clutching her chest. Momonosuke runs forward crying, "MOMONOSUKE...!!" and Hiyori sniffles nearby. Kin'emon's face fills the frame, bloodied and tearful, as he shouts, "I-I WILL BE ON MY WAY NOW!!" Momonosuke echoes, "MOTHER...!" A massive impact SFX "くっ!!" erupts. In the lower panels Luffy's head bursts from the ground yelling, "STOP, DAMMIT!! STOP!! STAY AWAY FROM THE CAPITAL!!" while Kaido looms above. Hiyori covers her mouth and answers softly, "YES..." as narration notes her resolve: "I WOULD NEVER BE ABLE TO FACE MOTHER......IF I LEFT THINGS LIKE THIS!!"

High in the stormy sky, Kaido's massive dragon form coils through the clouds with a thunderous "ごゴゴゴ...!!" and "ビリビリ...!!" Luffy, transformed and stretching, yells, "GOMU GOMU NO..." Kaido laughs wildly, "WORORORO... HOW RIDICULOUS...!! YOU GRABBED LIGHTNINGI" In a massive double-page impact, Luffy's giant fist crackles with electricity as he declares, "THUNDER-BOLT!!" while Kaido's eyes bulge in surprise. The strike lands with explosive force, sending shockwaves and debris flying.

The colossal impact erupts with a huge "ドン!!" and "カシャーン" as Luffy's electrified punch connects. Kaido is sent flying backward through the air, scales cracking. In the next panels Kaido recovers, huffing, "YOU CAN KEEP PLAYING AROUND IF YOU WANT..." while Luffy grimaces from the recoil. Kaido then swings his massive kanabo in a devastating counter, roaring, "BUT...!!" The club smashes into Luffy with a thunderous crash, sending the Straw Hat flying amid flying debris and impact lines as Luffy cries out, "AGH!!"

Luffy rockets forward in a small boat, stretching his arm with Gomu Gomu no... as the craft hurtles through the air amid speed lines and impact effects. Kaido's massive dragon head looms, snarling "HMPH!!" while a voice declares, "IN THE END A STRONG DEVIL FRUIT POWER... ISN'T ENOUGH TO CONQUER THESE SEAS!!" Luffy's attack connects as the dragon form twists and dives. The enormous black-scaled dragon body crashes down with crushing force, "WHOOSH!!" and "OOF!!" marking the impact as Luffy is slammed into debris below.

Kaido's dragon claw grips tightly as narration continues, "...AND STILL BROUGHT THE WORLD TO HEEL!!" and "LOOK AT ROGER, HE HAD NO FRUIT POWER..." Kaido's head snarls, "SUCH HURDLES CAN ONLY BE OVERCOME..." Luffy is sent flying with a startled "WHOA!!" The dragon coils and strikes with a massive club, stretching and roaring "...WITH HAKI!!!" as the weapon booms "BO-O-ING!" amid swirling clouds and impact lines.

Kaido's dragon head laughs wildly with "CHIRP CHIRP" sounds as Luffy's face appears in a bubble. Kaido reacts with shock, "HUHI!" and "CLENCH!!" Luffy swings his club from below, creating a massive "RUMBLE!!" explosion of smoke and lightning. Kaido's dragon form is struck hard, the impact labeled "DEATH DESTROYER*..." and "THUNDER BAGUA!!" with debris flying and a translator note referencing Daitoku Myoo.

Kaido's dragon coils and bites, shouting "YOU'VE GIVEN AWAY YOUR POSITION!!" and "LET GO!!" Luffy clings on as Kaido declares, "SEEMS YOU'RE STILL WEAK TO SLASHING ATTACKS!!" The dragon unleashes a spiraling blast, "DRAGON TWISTER DEMOLITION BREATH!!" with crackling energy and "Zzz" effects. Luffy is blasted back, grunting "URGH!!" and "CLENCH!!" amid the explosive wind and debris.

Festive crowds fill the capital as countless sky lanterns rise into the night. Voices cheer, "UP, UP, AND AWAY!!" "WATCH THE SKY LANTERNS FLY!!" "LIFT-OFF!!" and "GO ON, REACH THE SOULS OF THE DEPARTED..." The repeated festival drumbeats "ドンチャン♪" echo everywhere. Revelers dance and wave fans while one man grins and says, "WE'LL BE SLAVES AGAIN... AND WHEN THE SUN RISES..." A woman adds, "THE FESTIVAL IS GOING TO END SOON..." Lanterns drift higher as more shouts ring out: "UP, UP, AND AWAY!!" A figure reaches skyward, declaring, "I MANAGE TO SURVIVE FOR NEXT YEAR!!" Another voice answers hopefully, "I REALLY HOPE..."

Luffy laughs wildly, "AHAHAHA!!" while shouting "UP, UP AND AWAY!!" beside a wide-eyed child. The lanterns continue drifting as a desperate voice cries, "PLEASE REACH DADDY!!" Far below on a cliffside, a massive shadowy figure snarls and grabs at Luffy, roaring "LET GO OF ME!!" and "GET DOWN HERE, STRAW HAT!!" Luffy is yanked violently through the air with a loud "ARGH!!" Impact lines and motion blur fill the panel as the struggle intensifies. Nearby, a dark silhouette coughs, "COUGH!!"

Inside the dome, chaos erupts as the island structure cracks and tilts. Someone yells, "...HAHAHA, THAT JUST MEANS KAIDO IS AT THE END OF HIS ROPE..." while another shouts, "THE WHOLE ISLAND IS FALLING!!" and "BOSS HYOGORO, ARE YOU ALRIGHTI!" The label "DOME INTERIOR" appears. Outside, Kin'emon and allies debate frantically: "IN THE ISLAND FALLING AND ALL OF US PLUMMETING TO OUR DEATHS...!!" "SIR STRAWHAT LUFFY, KAIDO DEFEATING KAIDO WOULD RESULT..." "THINK! WHICH OUTCOME WOULD YOU PREFERI!" "LISTEN, ALL OF YOU!!" One samurai insists, "ON THE OTHER HAND, KAIDO COMING OUT ON TOP..." Below, more voices argue, "IF SIR STRAWHAT LUFFY WINS, THEY CAN ALL..." "MY WIFE IS DOWN IN RINGO!!" "I HAVE A KID IN HAKUMAI!!" "WE'D NEVER BE ABLE TO REPAY HIM!! OUR COUNTRY WOULD FINALLY BE BACK TO NORMAL!!" A final line questions, "...WOULD ONLY GIVE US A LITTLE LONGER TO CLING TO OUR LIVES!!"

Samurai charge forward with swords drawn, one bellowing, "GO ALL OUT AND TAKE KAIDO DOWN ONCE AND FOR ALL!!" while another calls, "STRAW HAT-SAN!! DON'T MIND US!!" A skeptical voice retorts, "ANDI! SO WHAT IF WE AREI" and "DO YOU SAMURAI HAVE A SCREW LOOSEI! WE'RE ALL DONE FOR!!" The scene shifts to the flooding basement where panicked figures scream, "I DON'T WANNA DIE!!" repeatedly. Water bursts in violently as someone yells, "WHOAAAAA!! WATERI!" A terrified man clutches debris, shouting, "YOU THINK THIS IS GONNA KILL MEI I'M SURVIVING THIS, NO MATTER WHAT!!" The label "BASEMENT" marks the location amid the flooding chaos.

Explosions rock the Treasure Repository's second floor as the seastone nail finally comes loose from the tremor. "THAT TREMOR MADE THE SEASTONE NAIL COME LOOSE...!!" someone shouts. "I-IT'S FINALLY OUT!!" another cries as a metallic "CLANK!" echoes. A woman with ornate hair ornaments stares in shock, hand near her face. In the next panels a massive dragon-like form emerges amid smoke and debris. "YOUR DEAR DAUGHTER IS GOING TO ACCOMPANY ME TO HELL!!" the figure roars. "ARE YOU WATCHING, ODENI!" it demands with a cough. "DAMN YOU... AT LEAST THIS WAY... I CAN TAKE YOU WITH ME!!" Luffy reacts with wide-eyed surprise. "WHAAAAAATI!" he yells. "HUHI" another voice questions. "LUFFY...I" Momonosuke's dragon head turns. "HEY!! MOMO!!" Luffy calls out as the dragon plummets through the air amid impact lines and smoke.

Luffy clings desperately as Momonosuke's dragon form plummets. "LUFFY! HOLD ON!!" a voice shouts. Momonosuke's massive dragon head turns with determination. "MOMO!" Luffy yells. "I KNOW YOU'VE GOT THIS!!" he encourages. Below, the sprawling island of Onigashima looms directly in their path. "ONIGASHIMA IS IN THE WAY!! MOVE IT!!" Momonosuke roars. The dragon's body stretches and coils with intense focus. "I'M FINISHING THIS FOR GOOD!!" Momonosuke declares as lightning crackles around his horns and scales. The massive dragon surges forward through the sky, flames and smoke trailing behind while Luffy holds tight. "WHAAATI!" a shocked reaction echoes from below.

Momonosuke's dragon form glows with power as he prepares to strike. "MOMO!" Luffy shouts from the dragon's back. "I KNOW YOU'VE GOT THIS!!" he urges. The colossal glowing fist descends with crackling energy and red lightning. "ONIGASHIMA IS IN THE WAY!! MOVE IT!!" Momonosuke bellows. "I'M FINISHING THIS FOR GOOD!!" he roars as the massive punch smashes downward, shattering the air with impact lines and sparks. Flames erupt along the dragon's body. Below, smaller figures react in alarm. "WHAAATI!" echoes as the overwhelming blow connects with tremendous force.

Kaido's massive form looms as the glowing fist strikes. "DEATH DESTROYER..." the narration reads. The blow lands with a violent red impact, blood and debris flying. Kaido's eyes widen in shock. "HUHI!" he grunts as the force slams into him. "CLENCH!!" his hands tighten around his kanabo. Lightning and thunder erupt around the clash. "RUMBLE!!" the sky shakes. "THUNDER BAGUA!!" Kaido bellows, swinging his weapon upward in a massive counterattack that sends shockwaves and red energy bursting outward. Momonosuke's dragon form recoils from the devastating strike.
