In a Wano town with a pagoda and waterfall in the background, young Kozuki Oden shouts with arms raised, "I WANT TO ADVENTURE... OUT AT SEA!!" while townspeople react in shock. A voice yells, "YOU CANNOT DO THAT!!" The narration box states "THE TALE OF ODEN CONTINUES!!" Oden glares intensely and declares, "JUST TAKE ME WITH YOU!!" An angry crowd member retorts, "WEREN'T YOU JUST TRYING TO KILL THE CAPTAIN!I" Oden continues passionately, "I HAVE ATTEMPTED IT DOZENS OF TIMES, BUT IT IS NO USE!! I HAVE ZERO TALENT WHEN IT COMES TO SAILING AND NAVIGATION!! THE LAST CREW I WAS A PART OF HAD THAT FRUSTRATING ISSUE. I KNOW WHAT HAPPENS WHEN A BUNCH OF FOLKS LIKE THAT BAND TOGETHER... JUST SET SAIL ON YOUR OWN!!" A sign reads "FLINCH!" as Oden is struck. In the background, a woman with a straw hat and others react with surprise.

Young Kozuki Oden continues arguing, "I WANT TO GO ON THIS ADVENTURE, WHETHER IT IS LEGAL OR NOT!! I WANT TO SEE THE WORLD!!" A seated man with a large hat and fur-collared coat, identified as Whitebeard, responds while being bumped, "YOU DID NOT NEED TO TELL HIM THAT!! SO WE'RE ON THE SAME PAGE, THEN!! THAT'S NO INTENTION OF TAKING HIM WITH ME, ANYWAY!! WHITEBEARD!! LEAVING WANO HAPPENS TO BE A CRIME THAT CARRIES A SEVERE PUNISHMENT, SO...!!" Oden's eyes widen as he exclaims, "THE WORLD IS INSANELY VAST-YOI!!" and "DON'T YOU GET ITI" A small figure asks "HUHI" while another says "EVEN IF YOU GUESSED 10 OR 20 THOUSAND, YOU'D STILL BE WAY OFF." Whitebeard laughs, "YOU THINK THERE'S ONLY FIVE ISLANDS IN THE WHOLE WORLD!I HAHAHA!! DON'T BE RIDICULOUS!!" Oden insists, "I AM A DAIMYO, REMEMBER!I A DAIMYO!! I JUST WANT TO RELIEVE MYSELF IN PEACE!! STOP HASSLING ME!!" A woman replies, "...PLEASE GO AHEAD." Two weeks later, a distant view of the town appears with the caption "TWO WEEKS LATER" as Oden runs off yelling, "WHERE ARE YOU GOING, LORD ODENI" and "THERE ARE COUNTLESS ISLANDS OUT THERE!!" with impact effects.

Aboard the Moby Dick as it sails away from Wano's shores, unseen voices debate the situation. "The rulers of the country would probably consider it a royal kidnapping. Dealing with the consequences of that scenario would just be a pain." "If I did accept his request..." "If strength was all that mattered, I'd have been happy to let him join our forces, but..." "I feel bad for Oden, but our only option is to sneak off in the dead of night!!" Another adds, "The treasure they gave us has been stowed away, rightI They even gave us food and repair supplies..." Suddenly an exclamation rings out: "!I" Whitebeard, seated on deck in his captain's hat and coat, turns sharply. "Hey!! What's that!I" A loud "CLANG!!" echoes as chains rattle violently. "!!" Whitebeard stands and shouts, "Whitebeard!!" Oden clings to the ship's railing from the water, yelling upward, "But I am going to stop you!!" "No, I knew you were up to something, Lord Oden!!" "I knew you were up to something!!"

The crew reacts in shock as Oden clings desperately to the chains. "ODEN!!" Oden shouts with fierce determination, "Please let me join you!! Please let me see the world!! Leaving this country is my dream!!" Whitebeard's voice booms back, "You must return with me!! You are the heir to the shogunate!!" Oden refuses to let go as the ship pulls away. Below, the crew spots a massive waterfall. "UWAAAA AAAH!! It's the waterfall!!" Someone yells, "This is no time to be worrying about others!! Hold on to the ship!!" Marco calls out, "...Pull up the guy that's holding him back. And only that guy...." A crew member gripping the chain mutters, "What crazy bastards....! Well, see ya around, Oden. Hopefully you'll float back to shore quietly..."

Back in Wano, panic spreads. "MISSING!I Whitebeard's ship is gone!!" A messenger reports, "Lord Oden is..." "In Wano" reads a sign. Toki cries out in distress, "I cannot find Big Bro Izo, either!! And Doggy and Kitty are missing, too!!" Someone urges, "Search for them first!! Search the entire country!!" Another replies, "...We should not assume the worst." Meanwhile at sea, Oden is hurled through the air by the waterfall's force. "UWAAAA AAAH!!!" The ship sails onward as Oden is left behind in the raging waters.

Whitebeard stands on deck with arms crossed. "The future of Wano rests on his shoulders!" A crewmate warns, "He is going to die at this rate!!! Pull Lord Oden up, Whitebeard!!" Whitebeard growls, "He'll have to convince me, if he wants to change his fate. He could end up endangering my family... I can't just welcome such a wild person into the crew." Another notes, "Yet he's still determined to join us and go out to sea." Whitebeard continues, "Boy... you saw how many times I turned him down, rightI He has three days!! Now, we're going to handle this our way." Oden, still chained and battered, gasps, "Really...!I" Whitebeard smirks, "BWAH! I'll let you join us!! Hear that, Oden!I Three days!! If you can keep hold of that chain for the next three days..." Oden strains with all his might. "GBUGH BUG BUG!!"

Amid raging seas and flying fish, Oden clings desperately to the side of a massive pirate ship as enormous waves crash over him. Below deck and on the shore, a crowd of pirates and onlookers watches the ordeal unfold. One man shouts, "HEY! ISN'T IT A BIT TOO SOON TO START ROOTING FOR HIM LIKE HE'S ONE OF US!I" Another yells, "DON'T GIVE UP, ODEN!! YOU'VE ONLY GOT ONE HOUR LEFT!!" A third observes, "ALTHOUGH... HE'S SO SWOLLEN NOW, IT'S HARD TO TELL IF HE'S THE SAME PERSON!!" Someone else exclaims, "HE IS...!!! THE GUY'S UNBELIEVABLE...!!!" while another asks, "IS HE STILL THEREI" A smiling pirate replies, "DON'TCHA THINK HE'S PRETTY MUCH ONE OF US ALREADYI" and another adds, "WELL, AFTER COMING THIS FAR..." A quiet voice murmurs, "HM..." The ship rocks violently with the sound effect "ボゴォォォ!!!" as Oden endures the punishing test.

The crew cheers Oden on from the violently rocking ship: "HANG IN THERE!!", "YOU CAN DO IT!!", "ALMOST THERE, ODEN!!", "KEEP IT UP, ODEN!!", and "YOU CAN DO IT, ODEN!!" Oden screams in agony with the sound "わあああああああ!!" and "BUGH!" A woman with long dark hair in a checkered outfit points accusingly and shouts, "FOR MAKING MY MASTER GO THROUGH ALL THIS, WHITEBEARD!! I WILL NEVER FORGIVE YOU..." A bearded pirate in a large hat roars, "YOU GOT THIS, ODEN!!!" while another yells, "KEEP IT UP!!" and "ALMOST THERE!!" The woman continues, "WE PROMISE WE'LL TAKE YOU TO WANO!!" A pirate taunts, "COME ON, WE'RE NOT GONNA HURT YOU!!! WHY ARE YOU RUNNING AWAY FROM US, WOMANI GYAHAHA!!!" A sign reads "ON A CERTAIN ISLAND" as she retorts, "YOU'RE LYING!!"

Amatsuki Toki stands defiantly on the dock, gripping a massive scythe-like weapon. She declares, "YOU'RE JUST A BUNCH OF HUMAN TRAFFICKERS!!" and "HOW NAIVE OF ME!!!" A sign labels her "AMATSUKI TOKI". The pirates respond, "STAY BACK! IF YOU HURT ME, MY MARKET VALUE WILL GO DOWN, RIGHT!I" and "I CAN'T BELIEVE I WAS DECEIVED BY YOU VILLAINS...!!!" Toki swings her weapon with impact sounds "ク" and "ク". In the background, a cloaked figure reacts with "HUHI" as a massive splash erupts with "UWAAAAAAAAAAH!!!" Toki thinks to herself, "NO, THERE IS A WAY..." and "JUST GIVE UP ALREADY!! THERE'S NOTHING BUT OCEAN BEHIND YOU!! YOU'VE GOT NO WAY OUT OF THIS!!" She resolves, "THIS IS IT. I HAVE TO LEAP INTO THE FUTURE AGAIN..."

A massive sea monster known as an Umibozu erupts from the water with a deafening roar "K'YAAAAA AAAH!!!" and "GYAAAAAH!!! IT'S AN UMIBOZU!!!" The creature bellows "CRY... FOR HELP... BUCH!!!" while terrified pirates scream around it. Toki stares in shock, whispering, "DID YOU... COME TO HELP ME" and "A MONSTER..." The monster's name appears as "KYOGO". Onlookers react with "HUH!I" and "KYOGO". From the ship, voices lament, "IF YOU'D'VE PASSED THE TEST!!", "HE WAS DOING SO WELL!!", "LORD ODEN!!", "DAMN... HE ONLY HAD TEN MINUTES LEFT!! HE MUST'VE REACHED HIS LIMIT...", and "YOU WERE WAY TOO HARSH, POPS!!" The narration notes "ODEN'S GONE!!" as the ship sits in silence with the word "SILENCE..." A translator note reads: "T/N: A DEMON IN JAPANESE FOLKLORE KNOWN AS A 'SEA PRIEST'."

The following day after parting ways, Kozuki Oden stands tall on the shore, laughing heartily. "WHAT A SHAME. I THOUGHT WE WOULD SAIL TO ALL SORTS OF COUNTRIES TOGETHER... PHEW!! I GUESS I LOST TRACK OF WHITEBEARD'S SHIP!! OH WELL!! AT LEAST I FINALLY MADE IT OUT OF WANO!! MY ADVENTURE STARTS ON THIS ISLAND!!" A woman with long dark hair watches him in shock. "WH... WHAT AN AMAZING RECOVERY... YOU ARE HUMAN, RIGHT...I" Oden turns to her with a wide grin. In a smaller panel he reflects, "YEAH... I HAVE TO ADMIT, IT IS DISAPPOINTING YOU, IT IS THE FIRST PERSON I MEET AFTER LEAVING......IS NOT EXACTLY EXOTICALLY DRESSED." The woman asks, "MORE IMPORTANTLY, DID YOU JUST SAY THAT YOU'RE FROM WANOI" Oden bows deeply, shouting, "NO, NO, I SHOULD BE THE ONE THANKING YOU!! YOU SAVED ME YESTERDAY! WOMAN!! YOU TOOK CARE OF ME WHEN I WAS UNCONSCIOUS! THANK YOU!!" Later, a horned man appears, yelling, "HEY, WHERE'S THAT MONSTER FROM YESTERDAY!I" The woman looks disgusted. "YOU LOOK DISGUSTED!!" She pleads with Oden, "THE TRUTH IS... I HAVE ALWAYS DREAMED OF GOING TO WANO!! PLEASE, CAN YOU GUIDE ME THERE!I"

Octopoda Pirates led by Captain Karma surround Oden and the woman. "IS THAT HER BODYGUARD OR SOMETHING!I WELL, WHATEVER, WE'LL JUST SELL THEM BOTH!! THAT'S THE WOMAN, CAPTAIN KARMA!! WE'LL LEAVE IT TO YOU!!" Karma declares, "SIX ARMS!! HOW INTERESTING!! WE NEVER HAD ANYONE LIKE THIS BACK IN WANO!! THERE ARE TOO MANY OF THEM!! WE SHOULD FLEE!!" Oden stands firm. A flashback shows him releasing a chain as a voice says, "BUT I LET GO OF THE CHAIN... YOU LET GO OF YOUR AMBITIONS FOR THE SAKE OF A WOMAN IN NEED... SEEMS LIKE YOU'RE SURPRISINGLY SOFT, HUH...I" Oden reacts with surprise, "...HUH!I" The woman cries out, "GET ON BOARD, ODEN!! IT'S THE WHITEBEARD PIRATEESSS!!" Oden leaps toward the approaching ship as the pirates panic, "UWAAAA AAAAA!!"

Whitebeard towers over Oden on the deck. "THE ADVENTURE OF A LIFE-TIME... WE'RE GOING TO REWARD YOU WITH... BROTHER!!" Oden shouts in disbelief, "FOR REAL, WHITEY-CHAN!I" The crew cheers as Oden is welcomed aboard the Moby Dick. "HEY!! POPS SURE GAVE YOU A HARD TIME, HUH!! WE'RE HAPPY FOR YOU!!! WELCOME ABOARD!! ODEEEEN!!" Oden questions, "SO WHATI ARE YOU GOING TO THROW ME OVERBOARD NOWI" Whitebeard laughs, "GURARARA!! IF I FEEL LIKE IT!!!" A bandaged man explains, "YOU SAID YOU WOULD NEVER FORGIVE ME, RIGHTI HEY, I FOUND SOME STOWAWAYS!! WE FIGURED THAT YOU WOULDN'T STOP UNTIL YOU GOT ON THIS SHIP, SO WE STOWED AWAY AND WAITED FOR YOU, LORD ODEN." Two figures emerge, one asking, "WAIT!I INUARASHI... NEKOMAMUSHI... WHAT ARE YOU TWO DOING HERE!I"

The woman insists, "THEN PLEASE, JUST LET ME STAY!! I'LL DO WHATEVER YOU WANT!!" Oden grimaces, "YOU LOOK DISGUSTED, TOO!!" She turns to the crew, "I WANT TO GO TO WANO... MY NAME IS TOKI!! AND WHO ARE YOUI" An enemy ship suddenly attacks, cannons firing. "GYAAAA AAAAA!! IT'S AN ENEMY SHIP!! WAIT, ODEN!! WE HAVEN'T EVEN LOOTED THEM YET!!" Oden and the crew fight back amid explosions and chaos. The ship sails onward until they reach a grand city. Oden stares in awe, "WOW! WHAT IS THIS PLACE!I I HAVE NEVER SEEN A BUILDING LIKE THAT BEFORE!!" A narration box reads, "UNTIL THEN, I HAD NEVER REALLY EXPERIENCED WHAT THIS WORLD HAS TO OFFER!!" The woman warns, "WAIT, ODEN!! WE NEED TO SCOUT THINGS OUT FIRST!!"

Oden recalls his first experiences outside Wano with wide-eyed wonder. "THE PLANTS!! THE ANIMALS!!" he exclaims as he stares at a forest filled with strange creatures and floating hearts. "I HAD NEVER ENCOUNTERED SUCH COLDNESS OR SUCH WARMTH!!" he continues while standing amid snowy mountains and a blazing sun. Voices cry out "ODEN!!" as he travels through harsh landscapes. In the next panels, Oden faces a massive horned beast and a crowd of warriors. "THE POWER!!" "STAY BACK!!" "THE PEOPLE!!" "HE IS HUGE!!" ring out as he charges forward. A sprawling banquet scene follows, with Oden laughing at the center. "EVERYTHING HAD SURPASSED MY WILDEST FANTASIES!!" he narrates. "DAY BY DAY, I OPENED MY EYES MORE AND MORE!!" The panel erupts with music notes and revelry. "THE IDEOLOGIES!! EVERYTHING WAS SO DIFFERENT..." he reflects. Finally he concludes, "I REALISED THAT I WAS JUST A TINY SPECK IN THIS WORLD!!"

Oden continues his tale aboard a ship. "ON A SEA LIKE THIS..." he says, pointing ahead. A massive vessel sails through rough waves as he laughs, "DAAAAA HA HA HA!!" He adds, "...ABOUT 800 YEARS AGO. BUT I WAS BORN... MY AGEI I'M 26." The scene shifts to the Roger Pirates reading newspapers. "...IS A CRAZY SAMURAI FROM WANO!!" "IT SEEMS LIKE THEIR LATEST RECRUIT..." "BUT THE NEWS-PAPERS KEEP FOCUSING ON WHITEBEARD. WE'RE GOING ALL OUT..." "ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN...!!" Roger grins fiercely and declares, "SO, A SAMURAI ESCAPED FROM THAT ISOLATED COUNTRY!! I WANT TO MEET HIM!!" The title "THE GREAT PIRATE GOLD ROGER" appears as the chapter ends. A note states the series will be on break next week.
