Chapter title page: Chapter 565, "Oars's Path." The cover illustration shows Brook in an African savanna-like scene, dressed in striped clothing and standing beside a zebra-headed painter who is working on a canvas. Brook holds his tall cane and wears a high hat, while striped clouds and flat-topped trees fill the background. The page is a playful cover image separate from the Marineford battle, with no story dialogue beyond the chapter title.

At the Shabondy Archipelago, viewers stare at the blanked-out broadcast screens and ask, "What happened to the picture!!? Show us Marineford!!" Marines explain that the broadcast Den Den Mushi are in trouble and there is nothing they can do. The crowd asks whether the Marines and Whitebeard are fighting it out and whether Whitebeard really sold out his comrades. On the execution platform, Sengoku watches the final screens and mutters that restoring the picture is crap for the Marines, while Doflamingo wonders, "Is that the end of the show...?"

A Sabaody ship finally gets close enough for people to watch the war, and the spectators reject the rumor. One says, "You guys are idiots... They're not showing it because there's something going on they don't want us to see. Not the world or us pirates...!!" Another calls the idea that Whitebeard sold out his comrades ridiculous: "He's a living legend because he doesn't do crap like that!!" Jewelry Bonney hears that the probability of the Whitebeard Pirates surviving is low, cries "Father!!" and leaves, telling her crew to set sail. Her crew answers, "Aye aye, captain! Let's go, Jean Bart!!"
At Marineford, Akainu's Meteor Volcano continues raining molten fists into the bay. Magma explodes across the ice and battlefield as pirates are blasted and burned. Luffy runs through the falling fireballs while Marines and pirates are thrown around him. The sky fills with flaming projectiles, and Akainu watches grimly as the attack destroys the pirates' footing and intensifies the encirclement.

A burning meteor strikes the Whitebeard Pirates' ship. Pirates cry, "Our ship...!!" and "The ship that supported the Whitebeard Pirates for decades..." as flames consume it. Someone shouts, "The Moby Dick...!!!" while Whitebeard stands in silence, and Squardo looks down in remorse, saying, "I'm sorry..." Around them, pirates ask if anything can be done about the wall as more magma crashes into the battlefield.
The magma boils the seawater inside the bay. Pirates scream, "Hot! Hot hot!!!" and "The water is getting boiled by the magma!!!" A Marine sees something move near the wall and says, "Hey!! That's..." As smoke rises, the pirates realize the path to the platform is being destroyed and everything is going back into the sea. The bay becomes a boiling trap, cutting away the route they had hoped to use.

The massive siege wall keeps rising, but one section strains against an obstruction. Marines and pirates watch as the wall grinds upward, pushing bodies and debris while the crowd screams. A Marine officer sees the wall fail to rise cleanly and realizes something is wrong. The incomplete wall leaves one opening in the steel encirclement, and the battlefield briefly pauses around that unexpected gap.

The pirates realize why the wall will not budge: Little Oars Jr.'s fallen body is blocking it. Someone shouts, "The wall won't budge!!! Even the boss couldn't break it!! That's no ordinary steel!!!" A Marine announces, "The plan is proceeding accordingly. We will now proceed with Portgas D. Ace's execution!!" Below, Moria laughs "Kishishi..." while Luffy, Hancock, Mihawk, Kuma, and other fighters react grimly to the renewed execution order.

The allied pirates identify the opening as Oars's path and realize it is the only way forward. They warn, "Oars's path is the only way!! Be careful!!! The enemy must be guarding it!!" Ivankov asks Jinbe where Luffy went, and Jinbe answers that he was there a moment ago. Luffy charges toward the opening, ignoring warnings that it must be a trap. Marines see him and shout to fire, and explosions burst around him as he runs through the gap.

Ivankov warns that there is no way the enemy would leave the one place a hole is open unguarded, saying it is obviously a trap and that Luffy should not be so reckless. Luffy, panting and desperate, says, "If I don't do something... they are gonna execute Ace!!!" When an ally says only a few people can get through at a time and then must face the full force of the Marines, Luffy suddenly says, "I've got an idea!!!" Nearby Marines confirm he is still alive, saying the last shockwave woke him up.

The figure rising near the opening is Little Oars Jr. Marines cry, "Little Oars Jr.!!!" and realize he is still breathing. He reaches upward, barely alive, and says, "Ace...!!" Luffy sees him and calls, "Oars...!!" while Marines order fire because even standing, Oars is barely alive. Kizaru comments, "Ohhh... it's fine. I'll take care of it," and adds that at times like this, you have to take out the head.

Kizaru fires a beam, but a sudden water spout erupts beside Marineford. People shout, "What's that!? A water spout!?" The huge burst of water launches something upward from the bay, drawing startled looks from Hancock, Ivankov, and the surrounding fighters. The object rises near the wall just as the Marines focus on Oars and Luffy, interrupting Kizaru's attempt to finish the wounded giant.

A coated ship bursts up from the water beside the execution platform area, carrying Luffy into full view of the three admirals. Kizaru says, "Oh, you've made it this far..." Akainu says, "You certainly are bold... Dragon's son." Aokiji notes, "But it's a little too early for you to stand on this stage." Luffy, exhausted but defiant, stands before Kizaru, Akainu, and Aokiji as Garp, Sengoku, Ace, Whitebeard, and others react to the sight and shout, "Strawhat Luffy!!!"

Luffy plants himself before the three admirals and screams, "Give Ace back!!!" He launches "Gomu Gomu... Stamp Gatling!!!" with rapid kicks toward them. The admirals smash him back through the battlefield, and observers identify him as Ace's little brother and the reckless man who jumped over the wall. Whitebeard sees Luffy's determination and calls to Joz, "It's time for the trump card!!" He tells Little Oars Jr., "Oars!! Stay there!! We need your strength!!!" and orders his men, "Get ready, men!!! We're breaking through to the platform!!!"

The impact of the admirals' counterattack sends Luffy crashing through blocks of ice and debris. Marines and pirates shout that the reckless fighter is Ace's little brother and that his recklessness is just like Ace's. Whitebeard remains focused on the larger plan, calling Joz into action and preparing the pirates to use Oars's strength and the remaining opening in the wall to break through toward Ace's platform.
