VILLAGE

Luffy stands triumphantly with both fists raised, shouting "VICTORY!!" as SFX "ドーン" and "どーん" explode around him. He then faces Nami with hands on his hips and declares, "NOW YOU'RE GONNA BECOME MY CREW MEMBER, RIGHTI" Nami, holding a large sack, replies, "I'LL SAY OKAY FOR NOW, SINCE IT SEEMS THAT IF I GO ALONG WITH YOU GUYS I'LL BE ABLE TO EARN A LOT! I'M JUST COOPERATING WITH YOU WHILE IT SERVES MY PURPOSE, REMEMBER THAT!" In the bottom panel she hugs the bulging sack with hearts floating nearby, thinking "BUGGY SAID THAT HE ONLY TAKES THE BEST TREASURES FOR HIMSELF, SO THIS BAG'S CONTENTS ARE OF THE HIGHEST QUALITY! THIS MUCH TREASURE SHOULD BE WORTH AT LEAST 10 MILLION BELLI!!" SFX: "ばふっ".

In the ruined street, Nami stands holding two heavy sacks of treasure and says, "I'VE DIVIDED IT INTO TWO BAGS SO YOU HOLD HALF OF IT. THIS TREASURE IS SO HEAVY THAT CARRYING IT ALONE IS DIFFICULT." Bodies of defeated Buggy Pirates lie scattered in puddles. Nami stares at Luffy's straw hat and asks, "THAT HAT... IS IT THAT PRECIOUS TO YOUII" Luffy, now wearing the hat, pulls it down happily and answers, "YEAH, BUT IT'S ALRIGHT. I FEEL BETTER NOW THAT I GOT RID OF BUGGY!!" while a small panel shows Nami looking surprised with "......" and Luffy reacting with "!".

Luffy sits among rubble and says, "THAT'S A GOOD IDEA. FOR NOW LET'S PRETEND WE'RE STILL PASSED OUT." Nami replies, "WHAT... SHOULD WE DOI" while noting "...HEY, CAPTAIN BUGGY GOT KNOCKED OUT OF SIGHT." In the next row Luffy grins and tells the still-dazed Zoro, "YEAH, WE ALSO GOT THE MAP AND THE TREASURE. DID YOU FINISH THE FIGHT...I LET'S GO. OI ZORO, GET UP!" patting him. Zoro mutters "ムI---" and "HMMI". Nami turns on Luffy, yelling "YOU'RE THE WEIRDEST!! WHY DID YOU INCLUDE MEI" Luffy answers, "OBVIOUSLY! IF YOU GUYS CAN WALK, THEN YOU AREN'T HUMAN..." as Zoro sits up holding his head, saying "...AAH I DON'T THINK I CAN WALK YET" and "FEELS DIZZY...".

In the ruined streets of Orange Town, a villager in a checkered jacket spots Luffy and Nami and shouts, "YOU GUYS..." Another villager runs off yelling, "I'LL WAKE UP THE CHIEF!" while Luffy casually replies, "OH YEAH" as a loud "ゴローン" echoes. Zoro and a stern villager confront the group. The villager demands, "DID THE PIRATES STIR UP A FIGHT AMONGST THEMSELVES...I IF YOU KNOW ANYTHING PLEASE TELL US..." while another declares, "WE'RE THE PEOPLE OF THIS VILLAGE." Nami and Luffy stand nearby as a sudden "AH!! CHIEF!!" rings out. Luffy explains, "IF YOU WANT US TO TELL YOU THEN THERE ISN'T ANYTHING MUCH LEFT TO TELL YOU..." Nami adds, "I THINK SOME OF THE PIRATE CREW ARE STILL HERE." A smiling blonde girl realizes, "OH... SO YOU'RE THE VILLAGERS," with a soft "ふう" sigh.

The angry villagers surround the scene. One yells, "IT'S DEFINITELY THE WORK OF THOSE PIRATES!!" while another shouts, "DAMMIT!! WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED HERE!I" An elderly villager pleads, "GOODNESS GRACIOUS!! PLEASE GET UP!" Luffy stands in the center with a large "どーん" sound effect and admits, "I DID THAT TO THE CHIEF!" followed by a sheepish "AH, SORRY..." (SFX: DO-N). Nami tells him, "YOU SAW ME DO IT, RIGHTI..." Luffy replies, "I KNOW, BUT STILL!! THAT WAS BECAUSE YOU HAD A GOOD REASON..." The furious villagers brandish weapons with a sharp "ギロッ!!" as one demands, "HEY! WHY DID YOU TELL THEM THAT KINDA THING ON PURPOSE..." and another growls, "WHATI!"

The blonde girl sweats nervously, thinking, "OOOH... IF WE DIDN'T KNOW ANY BETTER, AND JUST SAID 'WE'RE THIEVES' OR 'WE'RE PIRATES' THEN IT'D BE INSTANT DEATH...!!!" The villagers point spears and shout, "WHO THE HELL ARE YOU!I COULD YOU BE PIRATES!I" and "IT DOESN'T MATTER WHAT SORT OF EXCUSE YOU GIVE US!!" while threatening, "ALL OF YOU, HOW DARE YOU DO THIS TO OUR CHIEF..." Luffy turns dramatically with a massive "どぉーん" effect and declares, "WE ARE PIRATES!!" The girl reacts in shock with sweat drops and "!!!" The bottom panels show the chaos erupting: Luffy and Nami are grabbed as villagers yell, "BUT IT'S THE TRUTH!!" "BAKA!!" "HAHAHA" and "SO YOU ARE!!" with impact lines and motion effects.

Luffy grabs Nami and dashes away at full speed while the villagers chase them. Shouts ring out: "YIPES!!" "CHASE THEM!!" "AAH! THEY'RE RUNNING AWAY!!" and "LET'S RUN AWAY!" with a large "だだっ" sound effect. In the next panels, two furious villagers with headbands attack, yelling, "WE'LL PAY YOU BACK FOR WHAT YOU DID TO THE CHIEF!!" and "WE WON'T LET YOU GET AWAY!!" with impact stars. Nami looks back in surprise, "WHA...I" Luffy runs ahead declaring, "THIS IS A GOOD VILLAGE!!" while Nami complains, "WHY THE HELL DID YOU MAKE THE SITUATION MORE COMPLICATEDI"

An elderly man with glasses stares in shock, exclaiming, "THEY'RE ALL GETTING THAT MAD! FOR THEIR CHIEF, FOR JUST ONE PERSON..." In the next panel, furious Buggy pirates brandish swords and staffs, roaring with rage as motion lines emphasize their fury. Luffy and Nami sprint through an alley while townspeople point and shout, "THEY'RE RUNNING AWAY THROUGH AN ALLEY!" Luffy grins widely despite the chaos and declares, "NO MATTER WHAT EXCUSE WE GIVE, THEY'LL STILL BE MAD AT US!!" The loyal dog Chouchou barks fiercely with "WOOF!!!" as the pursuing pirates clash and fall in the background amid impact sounds like "キキッ" and "オオオ".

Townspeople yell, "THOSE GUYS ARE BAD PIRATES!!" as Chouchou blocks the path, barking "WOOF!! WOOF!!" Luffy and Nami react in surprise; Luffy shouts, "HEY, SHUSHU!! MOVE OUT OF THE WAY, QUICKLY!!!" while Nami cries, "AAH, THAT DOG!" Chouchou stands firm, growling "GRRRRR..." and refusing to move despite the pirates' demands of "WHY ARE YOU STOPPING USI SHUSHU!!" Luffy smiles confidently as the dog continues barking "WOOF WOOF!!!" and a pirate yells, "MOVE OUT OF THE WAY NOW!!"

Luffy, Nami, and an ally walk along the harbor with boats in the background. Luffy says, "WHO CARES WHAT THEY THINK... WE DID WHAT WE CAME TO DO!" Nami replies, "WHY DOES IT ALWAYS END UP THIS WAYI" and adds, "HUA... WAS GETTING PRETTY WORRIED. THANKS TO SHUSHU WE BARELY GOT AWAY." At the dock Luffy proudly shows off the stolen boat, announcing, "I STOLE IT FROM A BUNCH OF STUPID PIRATES," while Nami remarks, "WAH! IT'S COOL. I ENVY YOU." Suddenly a large pirate appears from behind and shouts, "WE HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR YOU, THIEF!!" as impact SFX "ガバッ" and "どーん" erupt.

Three Buggy Pirates confront the group at the dock. The large bald pirate growls, "YOU WON'T BE ABLE TO SAY THAT YOU'VE FORGOTTEN US...!!!" while the long-haired swordsman sneers, "HEHEHEHE! I NEVER DREAMED THAT WE'D SEE THIS VERY HARBOR AGAIN AFTER YOU STOLE IT" and the striped-shirt man adds, "WE KNEW YOU'D COME BACK IF WE STAYED HERE." Nami realizes, "YOU... YOU GUYS ARE..." The pirates mock them: "'SORT OF'!I WE HAVE A LONG HISTORY!" and "HAHAHA, MAN, DON'T FAINT LIKE A COWARD! STUPID! STEALING FROM OTHERS IS SUCH A TERRIBLE THING TO DO, SO YOU HAVE A GANG NOWI I GUESS WE GET TO TEACH YOU ALL A LESSON." One pirate grabs Luffy by the face, yelling, "HEY, HOLD YOUR FACE UP PROPERLY!" with "PAT! PAT!" sound effects as Luffy looks startled.

A close-up shows Roronoa Zoro's intense face, sweat drops flying as he reacts sharply. "HUH!I" he exclaims. Below, three figures tumble violently through the air after a massive blast: Mohji flails wildly, another pirate spins upside down, and Luffy tumbles with a striped shirt, all marked by a huge "!!!!I". The scene explodes into chaos as the town square is devastated by the impact. Debris flies everywhere, buildings crumble, and a large "GUTS" sign lies broken. Zoro stares in shock from the foreground, "HUHI" while a distant voice screams in terror, "AAAAH-HHHH-HHH!!!" The full force of the explosion rips through Orange Town.

In the ruined streets of Orange Town, townspeople gather around the dazed chief. "JUST WHAT ON EARTH HAPPENED, CHIEFI!" one man shouts. A large figure in armor reassures, "I'M SO GLAD YOU'RE ALRIGHT!!" The chief replies weakly, "YEAH..." Another villager cries, "AAH! CHIEF, YOU'RE AWAKE!" The group surveys the destruction. An older man points and asks, "WHEN WE CAME IT WAS ALREADY LIKE THIS. DID YOU SEE ANYTHINGI" The chief mutters, "THIS..." Concerned voices rise: "WERE THOSE KIDS STILL ALIVE...!!I" and "THOSE KIDS... AH! UNTIL JUST A WHILE AGO THESE THREE WEIRD GUYS WERE..." The chief stands silently, sweat drops forming as the weight of the situation sinks in.

The chief's fury erupts as he yells, "THOSE KIDS DON'T KNOW HOW MAD WE ARE ABOUT THE DAMAGE DONE TO OUR VILLAGE BUT I'M STILL PRETTY MAD. IT WAS LIKE THEY WERE LAUGHING AT US!! DON'T WORRY. WE CHASED THOSE IDIOTS AWAY" A flashback panel shows him kicking one of the pirates away with a loud "ガン!!" He continues, "...THAT IDIOT!!! DOING SUCH A RUDE THING TO AN OLD GUY LIKE ME! HOW DARE HE!!" The chief roars, "I WON'T FORGIVE ANYONE WHO SAYS ANYTHING BAD ABOUT THOSE KIDS OTHER THAN ME!!! ONLY ONE PERSON HAS THE RIGHT TO BE MAD AT THOSE KIDS... ONLY ME!" Townspeople react with shock. "SHUT UP!! WE SHOULD PROBABLY GO AND CATCH THOSE KIDS..." The chief demands, "ARE THOSE KIDS JUST GONNA DISAPPEAR NOW!!I WHY ARE YOU SIDING WITH THOSE PIRATES CHIEF!!"

The chief charges forward with his weapon, shouting "AHH! CHIEF!!" as a massive "だだっ!!" impact shakes the street. He growls, "YES...!! THEY RAN OFF IN THE DIRECTION OF THE HARBOR...!! DID THEY GO TO THE HARBOR!I" The chief runs while declaring, "DAMMIT!!! COMING INTO MY VILLAGE AND MESSING AROUND AND THEN LEAVING WITHOUT MY PERMISSION...!!! THE NUMBER OF THINGS I HAVE TO SAY TO YOU ARE PILED LIKE A MOUNTAIN!!!" Sound effects crash with "だだだだ ガチン" and "SFX: CLANK". In the harbor, a pirate ship with a skull emblem appears. The chief's allies say, "OKAY, LET'S GO!" as more "ばしっ!" impacts ring out and the ship begins to move.

Luffy stands on the damaged dock, panting heavily as he shouts across the water. "FUH! I STILL HAVE TONS TO SAY TO YOU...!!!" "FUH!" A small boat drifts away carrying the Straw Hats' new companions. "IT WAS THOSE PIRATES' BOAT SO OF COURSE IT DOES. I'LL ERASE IT LATER," one says while eyeing the skull flag. "HEY, THAT FLAG HAS BUGGY'S MARK ON IT." Mayor Boodle rushes forward in his hat, yelling desperately, "MISTER CHIEF!" Luffy turns and roars at the departing figures, "STOP RIGHT THERE YOU MORONS!!!" In close-up panels, Nami, Zoro, and Luffy reflect on the recent battle. Luffy thinks, "IN MY DESPAIR, I CONSIDERED DEATH TO BE NOTHING....!!!" "I REALLY THOUGHT IT WAS OKAY FOR ME TO DIE AT THAT TIME....!!!" Sweat drips as he pants, "PANT PANT...."

Mayor Boodle's face fills the panel, tears streaming as he bellows with raw emotion, "I OWE YOU!!!" "I'M SORRY!!" On the boat, Luffy beams with his trademark grin while Zoro lounges relaxed and Nami smiles beside them. Boodle continues, his voice breaking, "I DON'T KNOW HOW TO EXPRESS MY GRATITUDE...!!!" From the dock he waves them off, "JUST LIVE HAPPY LIVES!!" Luffy calls back cheerfully, "DON'T WORRY ABOUT IT!!" The town of Orange Town fades behind the small vessel as the group sets out.

Luffy protests from the boat, "THAT'S MY TREASURE!!" Nami retorts, "YEAH, BUT SINCE HALF OF THE VILLAGE WAS DESTROYED IT WILL TAKE SOME MONEY TO REPAIR IT" and "I GAVE YOU HALF OF IT DIDN'T I!I THAT'S FIVE MILLION BELI!" Luffy is shocked, "WHATI YOU LEFT THE TREASURE BEHIND!I" Nami bursts into wild laughter, "HAHAHAHA-HAHAHAHA....!!!" She panics when the boat rocks, "HOW COULD I DO THAT!I" "IF YOU EVER DO THAT AGAIN, YOU'RE DEAD!!" "STOP IT!! I CAN'T SWIM! IF YOU WANT IT SO BADLY, GO AND TAKE IT BACK FROM THEM!!" SFX: AAAAA... A BONK sound rings out as Luffy is struck. "IT DOESN'T HURT..." "SHUT UP!" "WHATI YOU'RE LAUGH-ING...I" A narration box reads: "THEIR NEW COMPANION, NAMI 'THE THIEF' HAS JOINED THE JOURNEY AND THE TWO BOATS CONTINUE SAILING ON THE SEA..." Nami teases Luffy, "BA-KA!" while the Buggy Pirates' ship sails in the distance.
