Rebecca and Soldier-san

Rebecca kneels with tears streaming down her face, hands covering her eyes as she whispers, "SOLDIER-SAN... IS GOING TO DIE." A thought bubble wonders, "THE TRUTH BEHIND THESE TEARS IS...!I" In the dungeon corridor lined with weapons and cells, a voice asks, "A TOYI" Another replies, "HE'S A TOY SOLDIER... WITH JUST ONE LEG..." The toy soldier in armor stares wide-eyed as someone murmurs, "SOLDIER...I" Behind bars, prisoners react with shock. One growls, "WE CAN'T LEAVE THE COLOSSEUM... SO EVEN IF THERE'S SOMETHING THAT NEEDS DOING ON THE OUTSIDE..." The toy soldier and a small girl in a polka-dot dress stand together while a voice notes, "YEAHH... THAT WAS DEFINITELY HIM..." Another asks, "DIDN'T I MEET SOMEONE LIKE THAT NEAR THE COLOSSEUM ENTRANCEI" A small sign reads "THIS WAY VENERA-BLE SIR."

Rebecca wipes her tears with a small smile as the toy soldier explains, "BUT THEY ARE THE SAME AS HUMANS. GIVEN THAT YOU'RE AN OUTSIDER, I DIDN'T IMAGINE THAT YOU'D UNDERSTAND..." He continues, "I FOUND IT WEIRDER THAT HE WAS ALIVE TO BEGIN WITH, BUT... SO YOU'RE WORRIED ABOUT THIS TOY GUY IS GOING TO DIE, HUH." Flashbacks show toy soldiers interacting warmly with humans: "THEY EVEN ENTER RELATIONSHIPS WITH LONELY SINGLES... WHICH IS WHY I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY WE'RE NOT ALLOWED TO LIVE TOGETHER." More scenes depict toys as siblings to children and friends to the friendless. Rebecca declares firmly, "HE'S NO LESS THAN A REAL PARENT...!!!" She adds, "I... I'M THE ONLY ONE LEFT FROM MY FAMILY. BUT FROM THE DAY MY MOTHER PASSED AWAY... I WAS RAISED BY SOLDIER-SAN... TO ME..."

Rebecca answers softly, "...YEAH." A guard shouts, "REBECCA, YOUR MATCH IS GONNA START!" Another announces, "THANK YOU FOR WAITING PATIENTLY. THE NEW RING IS NOW IN PLACE!!" The toy soldier reacts with surprise, "EHHH... THAT GUY..." while prisoners yell from behind bars. A prisoner complains, "ONCE AGAIN, WE'VE GOT A FEARSOME LINEUP FOR YOU IN D BLOCK!!" The toy soldier munches on food, saying, "SORRY... I KNOW YOU SPENT ALL YOU HAD ON THEM FOR ME." He adds, "...WELL THESE TWO COLO-LUNCH-BOXES FELL ON THE FLOOR DURING OUR LITTLE FIGHT, BEFORE." Rebecca questions, "EH... WHAT EXACTLY ARE YOU DOING, LUCY!I" A prisoner notes, "BUT EVEN THOUGH THEY FELL, THEY'RE STILL REAL TASTY!!" with sound effects "えーっ" and "もぐもぐ". In the armory, a female gladiator adjusts her helmet and declares, "I'LL SEE YOU IN THE FINALS." Rebecca tells the toy soldier, "YOU REALLY DON'T LOOK LIKE A PRISONER."

A helmeted soldier shouts in alarm as a young girl’s voice cries out, “MOMMY!!” In the Corrida Colosseum, an announcer declares, “THE MATCH IS ABOUT TO START!!” and “ALL D-BLOCK PARTICIPANTS MUST HEAD FOR THE RING NOW!!” The scene shifts to a sunny flower field where a small girl with short hair runs joyfully, clutching a bouquet. “LOOKIT ALL THE FLOWERS!” she exclaims. A woman pushing a cart smiles and replies, “OH, REBECCA.” Inside their modest home, young Rebecca beams while the woman thanks her: “THANK YOU FOR HELPING ME WORK. NOW LET’S GO TO TOWN TO SELL THEM.”

Explosive narration bursts across the sky: “THE RIKU ROYAL FIGHTERS HAVE SET FIRE TO THE TOWN!!” “STOP IT!!” “WHAT HAPPENED TO THE KING!I” Young Scarlett stands in shock, tears in her eyes, while little Rebecca clings to her side. The palace burns in the distance amid roaring flames and smoke. A desperate voice yells, “RUN AWAY, SCARLET-SAMA!!” as an explosion hurls debris and the pair flee through the fields.

A massive warrior with horns laughs wildly amid gunfire and chaos, shouting “RUN!! RUN FAR AWAY!” and “OUT OF OUR WAY!!” while striking down soldiers. Rebecca and Scarlett hide among flowers as distant explosions echo. Later, under a tree, the hooded Soldier finds them. Rebecca whimpers, “MOMMY, I’M HUNGRY…” The Soldier replies, “I’M SORRY, OF COURSE YOU ARE. IT’S BEEN TWO WHOLE DAYS…” Scarlett asks him to leave them briefly; he agrees, “OKAY. I’LL GO GET US SOMETHING TO EAT…”

Rebecca cries out, “MOMMY!I” as the Soldier, bloodied and battered, staggers through the flowers with his “SOL” helmet cracked. He gasps, “I COULDN’T! I COULDN’T PROTECT HER…!!!” while shielding the fallen Scarlett. Rebecca stares in horror. The Soldier kneels before her, offering food and apologizing: “SORRY… YOU’VE BEEN HUNGRY, AND WAITING…!! …SHE TOLD ME TO GIVE YOU THIS. I COULDN’T PROTECT YOUR MOTHER… I’M SO SORRY!!! HAA!” Rebecca’s eyes widen in shock and grief.

A young blonde girl with a bandaged eye smiles gently while saying, "I'LL GO GET US SOMETHING TO EAT..." Nearby, a small child cries out, "MOMMY I'M HUNGRY..." The toy soldier stands watch over two fallen figures in a field as the girl trembles and stammers, "W-W-W-W..." The child sobs with wide, tear-filled eyes. Suddenly the soldier strikes the girl across the face with a loud impact, sending her reeling as she screams, "AAAHH HHH..." and "WAA..." The soldier looms over her, shouting, "I'M SORRY!! I'M SO SORRY!!" while the girl weeps on the ground. In a field of flowers the soldier kneels, explaining, "I SAW SOME BLOOD ON THE STAIRS... HE'S GOTTA BE HIDING AROUND HERE. FIND HIM!!!" and adds, "SORRY ABOUT THIS..."

The toy soldier continues speaking to the crying girl: "SHE WAS ONCE A GREAT PERSON... YOUR MOTHER WAS ONCE..." He walks away through the sunlit flower field carrying his weapon. "AND YOU, WITH YOUR MOTHER'S DISTINGUISHED BLOOD RUNNING THROUGH YOUR VEINS... HE'S CAPTURING ALL OF THEM. AND THAT NEW KING... HE'S GOING AFTER ALL THOSE GREAT PEOPLE FROM THE PAST. HE'LL ALSO WANT TO CAPTURE YOU." The soldier declares with fierce determination, "UNTIL THE DAY WHEN YOU CAN TRULY BE HAPPY! I WILL STAND BY YOU UNTIL THAT DAY!!" while adding, "I COULDN'T PROTECT YOUR MOTHER, BUT...!!! EVEN IF IT COSTS ME MY OWN LIFE, I WILL PROTECT YOU!!" as bold sound effects emphasize his vow.

Rebecca shouts tearfully at the distant soldier, "YOU COULDN'T PROTECT MY MOMMY. I HATE YOU, SOLDIER-SAN!!! BUT I WANT MY MOMMY!!!" The soldier stands alone among flowers. He warns, "YOU MUSTN'T! THE NEW KING'S FRIENDS... ARE LYING IN WAIT IN THE TOWN AND IN YOUR HOUSE!!" Rebecca runs off crying, "HOME! WHERE ARE YOU GOING, REBECCA!I" as the soldier chases after her. In the town the soldier reacts in shock to distant cries of "DOFIA-MINGO! DOFIA-MINGO-SAMA!!" and "DOFIA-MINGO!" while citizens cheer wildly from the colosseum walls.

Doflamingo stands atop the colosseum declaring, "I WILL BRING... PROSPERITY TO THIS LAND!!" as the narration states, "FOR HUNDREDS OF YEARS NOW, THIS DESTITUTE COUNTRY HAS BEEN RULED OVER BY THE RIKU ROYAL FAMILY! ULTIMATELY, THAT DESPICABLE FAMILY GREEDILY STOLE AWAY MONEY AND RESOURCES FROM YOU, THE PEOPLE!!" Rebecca runs through the streets as wild dogs attack, barking "GRRRR!" and "KYAH!!" while someone yells, "WILD DOGS!! REBECCA!" The soldier fights the dogs fiercely, swinging his weapon and shouting, "YOU SURE CAN WORK! EVEN THOUGH YOU'RE A TOY. HAVE TO MAKE A LIVING." amid the chaos of the attack.

A small hooded figure lies on the ground as a toy soldier stands nearby. The soldier is struck hard, sent flying with a loud "BAHHH!!" and "ぽん!!" impact. The hooded child, Rebecca, cries out in distress. Soldier-san lands in a heap, his tin body dented, muttering "ずる..." while Rebecca sobs "WAHHH-HHHH!" Nearby voices reassure her: "AND HE'S ALWAYS BY YOUR SIDE!" and "SOLDIER-SAN IS BRAVE!!" Soldier-san rises, declaring he feels no cold in his tin body. Rebecca touches his hand and exclaims "AHH SO WARM!" as he replies "EHHH YOU'RE WARM."

Inside a ruined building, Rebecca peers out a window and says "SO WARM!" and "PLEASE CLOSE THE WINDOW." Soldier-san answers "NO." He explains the town was burned by Riku royal fighters, so most people moved out, and asks how much to rent here. Rebecca notes children are playing with toys outside. Soldier-san replies they must honor the "toy laws" in public. He promises to drop flower petals from the windowsill every morning as proof he is always by her side, and says he will return to the "toy house" when she sleeps.

Rebecca wakes and greets "GOOD MORNING, SOLDIER-SAN!" Soldier-san replies "AH, GOOD MORNING." Later, he presents a birthday cake with candles. Rebecca smiles and waves. Suddenly, rampaging toys burst in with loud "ドカン!!" and "バキ!!" impacts. A giant fish-like toy and others attack, sending Soldier-san flying. Rebecca watches in shock as the chaos spills into the street with toys rampaging and people fleeing.

Toys smash into the room with a "ガラん...!!" crash. Rebecca screams "AHHH!!" Two thugs discuss catching the orphan girl to sell her off. Soldier-san is kicked violently across the room with "レレレレレレ!!" and "バキ!!" effects. Rebecca cries "REBECCA!" and "SOLDIER-SAN!!" as he is beaten. The attackers laugh "FUFUFU!" and declare him a wanted man. Soldier-san tells Rebecca to run while he holds them off, shouting "LET'S SMASH THAT TOY!!!" A wanted poster lies on the ground.

In a quiet memory, young Rebecca sits with the toy soldier on a tree stump. "NAH, THAT'S ALRIGHT. I'VE GOT YOU, AFTER ALL," the soldier says. Rebecca replies, "I WILL TEACH YOU HOW TO FIGHT!" She continues, "LIVE IN A HOUSE TOGETHER, SOLDIER-SAN. SOMEDAY, I REALLY WANT TO..." The soldier answers, "AND WHAT IF SOMETHING SHOULD HAPPEN TO MEI" In the flashback, the soldier trains her: "YAH!! NOW COME AT ME!!" and "SO I WILL TEACH YOU HOW TO AVOID BEING HURT, YOURSELF!!" Rebecca thinks, "MOTHER ALWAYS SAID IT'S WRONG TO HURT OTHERS..." The scene shifts to the present. A cloaked figure with a large sword walks through stone corridors toward the arena entrance as a hand clutches a small object. Narration reads, "YOU WERE ALWAYS BY MY SIDE. TIME AND TIME AGAIN YOU PROTECTED ME."

The arena erupts in fury. The crowd roars, "YOU DAMN RIKU ROYAL!! YOU MEMBER OF THAT ROTTEN FAMILY!" and "GO TO HELL, REBECCA!! TODAY'S THE DAY YOU'LL DROP DEAD!" Rebecca stands alone in the ring, sword drawn, thinking "I WON'T LOSE!!!" Spectators shout, "IS EVERYONE READY FOR THIS!I WELL, COME ON NOW!!" and "IT'S OUR COLOSSEUM'S MOST BEAUTIFUL YOUNG GLADIATOR!! THE PHANTOM PRINCESS!" A man yells, "BUT REBECCA'S GRANDFATHER IS THE MUCH-HATED FORMER KING OF THIS LAND!!" Rebecca sweats, recalling kind moments as the crowd jeers "SHE EVEN BOUGHT ME LUNCH!" She thinks, "BECAUSE I..." A foot steps forward as someone cries, "DON'T DIE, SOLDIER-SAN...!!!" The page ends with "ONE PIECE CH. 721 END" and "ONE PIECE WILL TAKE A BREAK NEXT WEEK!"
