Luffy and Ace

Roughly two weeks since the War at the Summit... A Marine battleship sails near a coastal town as alarms blare. A soldier shouts, "WHAT'S THE CODE OF THE NEAREST BASE!I" Another yells, "ALL OUR BATTLESHIPS ARE DEPLOYED ELSEWHERE!!!" A narration box states there is a pirate ship offshore of the Marine camp in West Blue. An officer confirms, "THIS IS SOUTH BLUE, CONFIRM YOUR POSITION." Reinforcements are noted coming from both divisions. In a crowded town square a Marine captain raises his sword and roars, "WE'RE GOING TO THE GRAND LINE!!! PACK YOUR BAGS, MEN!!!" A caption reads, "the influence of the events of the war begin to appear."

Jimbei's massive face fills a panel as he shouts, "CAN YOU TAKE CARE OF THINGS FROM HERE, JIMBEI!I" and declares, "MY DUTY TO PROTECT STRAWHAT BOY ENDS HERE!! HIHAA!!!" Boa Hancock and a spotted-faced ally respond that they will watch over Luffy until he recovers. The crew of the Kuja Pirates waves goodbye from the shore, shouting, "GIVE HIM OUR REGARDS WHEN HE WAKES UP!!!" and "SEE YOU, STRAWHAT!!! THANK YOU FOR SHOWING US THE LIGHT OF THE SURFACE!" Luffy's ship sails away as voices call out, "YOU CAN PULL THROUGH THIS!!" "HANG IN THERE!!!" "DON'T DIE ON ME, STRAWHAT!!!" and "IF IT'S MEANT TO BE, WE'LL MEET AGAIN!!!"

Narration explains a special exception was made for Law and his crew to help Luffy's recovery, allowing them to stay on Amazon Lily. Luffy suddenly wakes with a massive close-up scream, eyes wide and mouth open, shouting "ACE!!!" and "WHERE'S ACE!!!I" while crying "LWAA-AAAAA-HHH!!!" A voice warns, "LOOK OUT!! CALM DOWN, STRAWHAT!!" and another notes, "IF HE REOPENS HIS WOUNDS, HE MIGHT REALLY DIE THIS TIME." The Kuja Pirates react in panic as Luffy thrashes, with one saying "WE CAN'T STOP HIM!! STRAWHAT!! STOP!" and another asking "WHAT'LL HAPPEN IF WE JUST LEAVE HIM LIKE THAT...I"

High atop Amazon Lily's Kuja Castle, excited Kuja warriors shout "LUFFY!!" as word spreads. Large narration bubbles declare "LUFFY HAS AWAKENED! HEBIHIME!!" A sign labels the location "Amazon Lily, Kuja Castle". In a grand chamber, Boa Hancock clutches her chest with a flushed, eager expression and exclaims, "I want to see him right away!!" Her sisters reply, "Really!!I Haa... That's great!!" An elder Kuja woman warns, "MORE IMPORTANTLY, SISTER, YOU MUST EAT!!" while another adds, "THAT'S RIGHT, YOU'VE BARELY EATEN ANYTHING SINCE YOU RETURNED!!" Inside the ornate hall, the elder continues, "LETTING THOSE UNKNOWN MEN STAY IN THE BAY IS ALREADY A HUGE EXCEPTION!!" and "ABSOLUTELY NOT, HEBIHIME!! EVERYONE WANTS TO SEE LUFFY. IF YOU GO AND SEE HIM BY YOURSELF, IT'LL SET A BAD EXAMPLE!! THIS IS THE ISLE OF WOMEN." Hancock's back is shown as she faces the throne room where the Kuja sit waiting.

Hancock smiles dreamily, hearts floating around her, and says, "I'll deliver it myself..." while thinking "And then..." Kuja warriors cheer, "YES! WITH PLEASURE!!" and "THAT'S RIGHT, LUFFY MUST BE HUNGRY AS WELL!! I'LL HELP AS WELL!! MAKE A MOUNTAIN OF FOOD FOR HIM RIGHT AWAY!!!" Hancock blushes and replies, "YOU'RE STILL TRYING TO GO!" In the vast throne hall an elder protests, "I CAN'T WAIT!! I AM THE EMPRESS. DON'T ORDER ME AROUND!!! ABSOLUTELY NOT!! HEBIHIME!! MY MOST IMPORTANT DUTY IS TO PROTECT THE LAWS OF THIS ISLAND THAT HAVE BEEN PASSED DOWN FOR GENERATIONS!!!" Another voice insists, "YOU PROMISED TO ONLY SEE LUFFY ONCE HE HAS FULLY RECOVERED!! WAIT UNTIL THEN!" The elder glares intensely, sweat flying, and rants, "BUT... IMPEL DOWN, MARINE HEADQUARTERS!!! HE TRULY WAS LIKE AN ANT IN THE MIDST OF A GREAT STORM!!! IT WAS PRACTICALLY AN ACT OF GOD THAT HE RETURNED WITH HIS LIFE... JUST WHAT DO THE HEAVENS WANT WITH THIS MAN!I!" A Kuja woman gasps, "MY GOODNESS... SHE'S COME DOWN WITH A TERRIBLE VIRUS!!!"

At a rocky coastal camp on the Isle of Women, men discuss in speech bubbles: "BUT IT MIGHT BE WORTH RISKING IT. I HEARD THAT ANY MAN WHO ENTERS GETS TURNED TO STONE AND IS NEVER HEARD FROM AGAIN..." "JEEZ... THIS IS THE ISLE OF WOMEN THAT I'VE HEARD RUMORS ABOUT." "I DUNNO, THAT EMPRESS TOLD US NOT TO LEAVE THIS CAMP..." "YOU SAID IT. THE KUJA PIRATES ARE NOTHING BUT WOMEN... AND THEY SMELLED GREAT-" A map labels "A rocky area by the coast of the isle of women." Elsewhere, three men in animal hats react: one says "... I'm sorry..." while the others shout "IT'S THE ISLE OF WOMEN!!!" "YOU THINK THERE ARE ANY GIRL BEARSI" "YOU'LL DIE, YOU IDIOT!" "I WANNA GO PEEKING IN THIS DREAM COUNTRY FILLED WITH WOMEN!" Suddenly a massive explosion erupts with the giant sound effect "ドカァーン!!!" and Luffy's roar "UWO-OOOH-HHH!!!" as debris and smoke fill the air; nearby figures react with "ハァ... ハァ..."

Bandaged Luffy plummets through the jungle canopy, tree branches snapping around him with sound effects "ズドォォォン!!" and "ドゴォ..." as he gasps "HAA..." repeatedly. He crashes through foliage, the impact marked by motion lines and debris. In a wide view he stands unsteadily on a cliff edge, heavily wrapped in bandages, looking up at the sky while thinking, "WAS I DREAMING...I HAA...!! WHERE AM I...!!I" Close-ups show his exhausted, sweat-covered face with eyes shut and mouth open, still murmuring "HAA..." as he tries to process his surroundings amid the tropical island landscape.

Luffy screams in agony as a massive impact strikes him, blood and debris flying. "AAH!!!...!!!" A voice cries out amid the chaos. In a swirling memory, a figure pleads, "I COULDN'T LET YOU SAVE ME..." while Luffy's face twists in pain. "AAAH-HH!!!" echoes as another voice whispers, "LUFFY..." followed by "SORRY..." Luffy shouts desperately, "GO AWAY!!! GO AWAY!!!" as explosions and smoke engulf the scene. He wails, "WAAH...!!! AAAHH!!!" His bandaged hand reaches out amid the destruction, tears and blood visible on his face.

A Marine officer grins amid the chaos as Luffy is slammed by a powerful blow. "UUHH!!!" Luffy yells back, refusing to stop. "STOP IT!!!" he roars while striking with his fist. The Marine's face fills with shock. Luffy continues his assault, screaming, "UWAA-AAAH-HH!!!" as massive impact effects and debris fill the air around their fierce clash.

Explosions rock the battlefield. "GO AWAY!!! GO AWAY!!!" Luffy shouts while striking wildly. "HAA..." he pants in exhaustion. A massive blast erupts with "DOKAAAN...!!" and "GOGOGO!!" sounds as Luffy is hurled back. "UUUH-HH!!!" he cries. In the distance, a cloaked figure watches silently with "..." as Luffy continues to scream, "UWAA-AAAAAHH!!!"

Luffy lies broken on the ground, breathing heavily. "HAA..." A cloaked figure sits nearby. Luffy mutters, "WOULD YOU MIND LOOKING AFTER MY LITTLE BROTHERI IF I DIE..." His face twists in anguish. "I'VE PINCHED MY CHEEK... ENOUGH TO TEAR IT APART..." he says. "ACE IS... THE WAR IS OVER..." The cloaked figure replies, "DON'T SAY IT!!! DON'T SAY ANYTHING...!!!" Luffy whispers, "IF THIS WERE A DREAM, I WOULD HAVE WOKEN UP ALREADY... I'M NOT DREAMING, AM I...I" as tears fall.

Luffy, battered and tear-streaked, shouts with fierce determination, "I'LL SURPASS YOU SOMEDAY, ACE." Ace replies with a grin, "YOU'VE GOTTEN STRONGER, LUFFY." Suddenly Luffy's face twists in horror as the realization hits. A massive close-up shows Luffy screaming with tears pouring down, "IS ACE DEAD, ISN'T HE!!!I" Below, a cloaked figure kneels before a burning wreckage and sobs, "HE'S DEAD...!!!" while Luffy, still crying, whispers "YES..." and "UUHH!!" A small panel shows Luffy's shocked, tear-filled face as the truth sinks in.

Luffy's grief explodes into raw anguish. He roars, "HE'S GOING TO BE YOUR BROTHER FROM NOW ON." Another panel shows him yelling, "WHO THE HECK IS ACE!!!I" His face contorts as he wails with an enormous, echoing scream, "UWAAA-AAAAH-HHH!!!" The background erupts into a massive landscape of mountains and forests filled with giant, overlapping Japanese sound effects of sobbing and despair. Luffy's tears and snot stream down in close-ups while the entire page vibrates with his heartbroken cries.

The scene shifts to a ten-year-old flashback at Mt. Corbo behind Windmill Village. Young Luffy, wearing a shirt marked "56," is repeatedly struck by Garp's massive fist. Garp yells, "YOU DIDN'T JUST EAT A DEVIL FRUIT; NOW YOU'VE GOT THAT STUPID MOUTH AS WELL!!! LUFFY, YOU AND ACE ARE GOING TO BECOME THE STRONGEST MARINES!!!" Young Luffy protests, "WHAT DO YOU MEAN, 'PIRATE KING'!I" and later screams, "OWOWOWOW!! DAMN IT, I'M RUBBER, WHY DOES IT HURT!I LEMME GO, GRAMPA!" Garp retorts, "COME ON, GRAMPA. I'M GOING TO BECOME THE PIRATE KING!!" while Luffy cries, "GYAAA... GYAAA..." A caption reads: "Ten years ago, East Blue, mountain pass at Mt. Corbo, behind Windmill Village."

At the Dadan family hideout on Mt. Corbo, Dadan bursts out shouting, "DADAN!! GET OUT HERE!!!" Garp's fist smashes through the wall with a loud impact. Dadan, towering and furious, grabs Garp by the collar and yells, "G-GARP!! COME ON, GIVE ME A BREAK ALREADY!! ACE IS ALREADY TEN YEARS OLD. WE WON'T BE ABLE TO HANDLE HIM MUCH LONGER!! TAKE HIM BACK!!!" Young Ace stands beside her, looking annoyed. A caption identifies her as "Mt. Corbo mountain bandits Head of the Dadan family Karli Dadan (Ace and Luffy's foster parent)."

High in the treetops, a furious voice roars across the forest canopy: "YOU WANT ME TO TAKE ANOTHER ONE!!I AND HE'S YOUR... YOUR GRANDSON!!I" Below, Garp stands with hands on hips facing Dadan, who kneels and gestures wildly while protesting, "WELL, I DON'T LIKE THE IDEA OF GETTING ARRESTED, BUT SOMETIMES I THINK A PRISON CELL MIGHT BE BETTER! WE'RE HAVING A TOUGH ENOUGH TIME WITH ACE, AND NOW YOU'RE ADDING YOUR GRANDSON!" Garp replies firmly, "ALL RIGHT... I'LL LET YOU CHOOSE: GO TO JAIL, OR LOOK AFTER THE KID. I'VE OVER-LOOKED SO MANY CRIMES OF YOURS AS THERE ARE STARS IN THE SKY!!" Young Luffy watches from behind a tree. The scene shifts to a Marine base where Garp dramatically arrives carrying Luffy, shouting "UWOOOH!! ACE, YOU CAME BACK!!!" Luffy beams and waves, "OH, ACE!" while a Marine recoils in disgust, "GEEH!! IT'S SPIT!!! THAT'S DISGUSTING!!" Another Marine exclaims, "THAT KID MUST BE SOME KIND OF BEAST, RIGHT!I" Luffy yells back, "HEY!! WHO'RE YOU!!I" as he is struck and sent flying with a loud "BISH!!" impact, reacting with "UUHH!!"

Ten years ago, a battered young Portgas D. Ace sits alone on a rock in the forest, gripping a metal pipe with a grim, determined expression as large impact symbols and exclamation marks fill the air around him. A caption box reads "Portgas D. Ace (Ten years ago)". In a series of close-up panels, Ace glares and declares, "I'LL LEAVE HIM WITH YOU!!!" A young Luffy reacts with shock, "WHAT ISI" then shouts angrily, "IT'S SETTLED!!!" Ace continues, "YOU'LL BE LIVING FROM NOW ON, SO YOU BETTER GET ALONG! THAT'S ACE. HE'S THREE YEARS OLDER THAN YOU." Luffy stares in stunned silence with "..." while Ace walks away carrying a large round object on his back. Luffy watches him go and lets out a small "UHHH!!"
