A Genius' Dream

At Egghead's port, CP0 waits with the Kuma-type Seraphim. The island side says, "Cipher Pol, great job in returning the Seraphim back to Egghead Island." They add that the "S-Bear" can return on its own from CP0's position and apologetically frame it as administrative correspondence because they are busy. The instruction is clear: issue the return order to S-Bear and the mission is complete. The speaker closes with, "Thank you for your hard work!" Kaku bristles at the treatment, complaining, "Hey, hey, that's quite cold-hearted from ya!!"

Lucci suspects Egghead is wary and asks, "Have they noticed?" Kaku tries to push his way in, saying, "It's been a long journey ya know?! Why don't ya let us on the island for a cup of tea or something? It's cold out here!" The port replies that the Marine G-14 branch is nearby. Lucci confirms he is speaking with Dr. Vegapunk and mentions disappearance cases at Egghead: two months ago a CP5 ship, a month ago a CP7 ship, and two weeks ago a CP8 ship. In the lab, the Vegapunks note that for the past two months none of the government ships visiting Egghead have returned, though one says they personally confirmed all of those ships' departures.

Lilith angrily asks what CP0 is trying to say and snaps, "Are you saying we laid a hand on the Cipher Pol's ships? Don't mess with us!!" Edison warns her not to pick a fight and starts to say he will open the ports so they can investigate, but the others immediately reject that too. Pythagoras repeats that CP0 should leave. Lucci calmly answers, "I see... I fully understand," while Kaku mutters "Kuru-ppoi." Lucci orders everyone to prepare to abandon ship. When Kaku asks what they will do, Lucci says they will fly toward the island using S-Bear's abilities, because the moment they invade the sea beast weapons will destroy their ship.

Far away at the Grand Line, the real Bartholomew Kuma begins moving by himself. People at Kamabakka Kingdom shout, "Kuma!" and "Wait!!" as the damaged cyborg tears away from the revolutionary base. Someone calls, "Kuma-san, where are you going?" while his body clanks and steams. Dragon watches with alarm and says only, "Kuma..." Kuma then uses the Paw-Paw Fruit with a sharp "Fsssshh" and vanishes in a "Pop!!" leaving the Revolutionaries shocked behind him.

Back at Egghead's scrapyard, Luffy asks Vegapunk why he wants to get off the island when his lab is there. Vegapunk admits, "Ah that's right..." He explains that he has completely used up all the government's research funds and kept continuing his research anyway; even now, the overflowing ideas will not stop. The number of helpers and the amount of funds are no longer enough. Vegapunk then states his dream: "One day, I want to create a kind of world with science... a world where energy is widespread all over the world, free of charge!"

Vegapunk says the resources that produce energy are fought over by many countries and that this becomes the seed of war. He calls humans foolish beings, but says energy can be felt here, over there, and everywhere else. Luffy, busy eating, has not been listening and asks, "What would that do for everyone?" Vegapunk says that if he can convert the invisible energy around them into visible power, the large fuse of war will be erased from the world. Even though the world is full of it, he believes science will surely reach that point one day.

Luffy reacts with "Heeeeh..." and Vegapunk says Luffy does not seem interested. Luffy answers that a person who can make everyone happy is good, though he is not interested in being a hero. When he asks why Vegapunk wants to leave, Vegapunk says the more he tries to create the energy he seeks, the closer he gets to the truth. He has nearly uncovered the ancient energy source that powered the old robot soldier, and as a scientist he must take a peek. He says that if he unravels the strings of forbidden history, what he comprehends will become his friend's will. Then an explosion interrupts them, with "Boom," "Gya!!" and "Waah!!"

Vegapunk admits he stepped too deeply into forbidden history and says bluntly, "I will be eliminated by the World Government! Just like what they did to Ohara!" Luffy asks whether the ruckus is probably being caused by CP0, and Vegapunk confirms "Zero?" Someone explains that CP0 are the agents who act only under orders of the Celestial Dragons, at the top of Cipher Pol. Another voice calls it an omen of a major historical event, while Luffy asks, "What's CP0? It's not CP9?" The crew also marvels at Egghead itself: "What an incredibly futuristic city! I'm so excited!"

Egghead residents notice the black-suited intruders and wonder why Cipher Pol is not entering through the port like usual. Someone reports that two Sea Beast Weapons along the coast were destroyed and Shaka realizes CP0 is on the island. He asks how they got through the port, and the answer is that CP0 rejected the request, their ship fell prey to the sea beast weapons, and they used S-Bear to enter anyway. Shaka concludes that CP0 foresaw it and were resolved to fight even if it cost them their ship, leaving Egghead no choice but to respond.

Shaka issues emergency orders across Egghead: evacuate all researchers and workers, let Atlas move back to the Labophase, and prepare Seraphim S-Snake, S-Hawk, and S-Shark for battle. Jinbe says, "OK!!" and Shaka adds, "Let Sentomaru take charge of them!" In the scrapyard, Vegapunk asks Luffy, "Will you take me out to the sea after I pack my belongings, Quasar?" He warns that his disappearance will probably become a worldwide major incident. Luffy accepts because Vegapunk has a funny-looking head, and Vegapunk tells him to bring Bonney to the Labophase above the clouds because the ground below will become a battlefield.

Vegapunk says, "Well then... I'll be waiting uptop," and suddenly vanishes, startling Luffy. Luffy cries, "Eeeh!? He vanished!!" and calls after him, "Hey old man apple!!" Chopper complains that all the futuristic stuff is making his head hurt. Nearby, CP0 advances through Egghead and the residents panic: "Hey!! They even got a monster!!" and "Gaa-aah!!!" as S-Bear stomps with them. Lucci orders, "Shoot them down!!" as the intruders push into the city.

CP0's gunfire proves useless against one of Egghead's monsters, and Kaku excitedly says, "I've always wanted to fight these things! A creature that doesn't exist in the sea. You're a space monster, aren't you!? Tempest Kick!" Stussy calmly notes, "It's useless..." because the thing is a hologram. Kaku crashes through it and complains that she should have said so earlier, while Stussy says he is well informed and calls it nostalgic. Seeing lines in the clouds, Kaku says he will go check above them; if Vegapunk is there, he is probably over that way. Lucci confirms he sees them too.

Kaku approaches the cloud line and asks what happens if an enemy crosses it. The laser beams immediately activate with a blast and he is knocked back, shouting "Uwaaaah!!" The system is explained as an interception system that surrounds the Labophase, called the "Frontier Dome." Lucci tells Stussy that this means they should not underestimate the world's number one scientist. Kaku yells, "Kaku-san!!" is called out by the others, and he complains that Stussy should please just say these things beforehand; Stussy answers that he has quite the warm-up.

Atlas charges in to stop CP0, shouting, "Who goes there?! No one is allowed to wreak havoc more than me here on Egghead! Master Atlas!!" Stussy identifies her: "Atlas! She's one of the Vegapunks!" Atlas swings at Lucci with "Ultra... Mighty... Punch--" while someone warns, "Atlas! Wait! You're no match for them!" Lucci, in leopard form, responds with "Rokuogan!" and brutally strikes Atlas down. People scream "Master Atlas!!" while Stussy watches and remarks, "No mercy at all, huh?"

The evacuation order from Master Shaka goes out across Egghead: everyone must run toward the factory because they are being raided. Atlas lies badly injured, though a bystander says, "She's still breathing..." Luffy hurries with Bonney toward the vacuum rocket and says they are going up, but he stops when he sees Atlas and the CP0 agent in front of him. He recognizes Lucci and shouts, "Pigeon guy!?" Lucci, equally startled, says, "Straw Hat!?" The page ends on their fateful encounter once again, with the note "1068 End" and "No break next week."
