Roger and Whitebeard

Roger sees Oden approaching and recognizes him as "the samurai" they had heard about. Oden charges ahead, thinking all he needs to do is take the Roger Pirates' treasure. The Roger Pirates immediately understand that this enemy is on a different level from those they have faced before. Oden declares, "Nitoryu Oden... Gan Modoki!!!" and smashes into them with two swords. The attack sends men flying, but it only draws Roger's full attention.

Rayleigh and Gaban move to intercept Oden, asking whether they should cut him into pieces, but Roger stops them. He does not want his two best men hurt and says, "You just want to face him yourself..." Oden feels the aura of a wild beast as Roger steps forward. Roger calls, "Hey, samurai!!!" and unleashes Kamusari, "Aversion to Divinity." The blow hurls Oden away with overwhelming force, proving that the rumors about Roger's strength are true.

Oden reels from Roger's strike, stunned by the power he has just felt. Then Whitebeard enters the clash himself. Oden watches in disbelief as Roger and Whitebeard swing at each other, their blades stopping short of touching while the island tears apart under the force. The shockwave blows people and debris away, and Oden realizes, "They aren't even touching!!!" The two captains grin at each other from across the impossible gap of their Haki.

The clash between Roger and Whitebeard shakes the island and nearly sends their ship flying. The crew cries, "Our ship!!!" but the two captains are smiling. Whitebeard says, "You look good, Roger!!" and Roger answers, "How many years has it been, Newgate?!" Their greeting is a collision, a reunion, and the opening of a battle all at once. Roger laughs, "Give me everything you have!!!" and Whitebeard roars back with his own laugh.

The Roger Pirates and the Whitebeard Pirates charge into each other. Men shout, "Come on, men!!" and "Loot them!!" as the battle spreads across the island. The fight between the two great pirate crews lasts three days and three nights, with the upper hand constantly shifting from side to side. It is not a clean victory for either side, but a massive clash between crews strong enough to turn combat into a storm.

Four days later, the battlefield has become a gift exchange. The crews argue over treasures and drinks: "What an outrageous shirt! Where did you get it?!" "This southern sake is too good." "Wait a minute, you're drinking too much! We agreed everyone would have the same amount!!!" Children and apprentices watch the scene, and Shanks points out the boy with the hat. The Roger Pirates note that Teach did not sleep during the truce, and Buggy says he has heard Teach has never slept in his life. The strange mix of celebration, suspicion, and curiosity follows the battle's end.

Roger shows Whitebeard and Oden the secret he has been chasing. Oden can read the symbols, explaining that the way to decode them was passed from generation to generation to the firstborn of the Kozuki clan from Wano. Roger explains that he and his crew reached the end of the Log Pose after thirteen years and did what no one else had done, but it was not the last island. The Log Pose could not guide them further because the needles kept spinning. Roger now believes there is one final island, an island one must reach to travel the whole world, a feat never done before.

Roger explains that four special red stones are marked with inscriptions that he believes are clues to the final island. The World Government banned the deciphering of poneglyphs long ago, and Roger now understands that the stones are essential reference points for achieving his goal. If he can get three of them, he says, he will surely have the biggest pirate crew in the world. The World Government does not want anyone to reach the final island, confirming the legends of a huge hidden treasure there. Roger declares, "That's right! And then I'll be..." leaving Oden and Whitebeard stunned.

Roger's dream leaves Oden speechless. Oden later writes that he was so stunned he could not move and that Roger had already left him speechless twice. Whitebeard laughs at Roger's ambition and asks if he is a kid, but Roger is serious. He turns to Whitebeard and says, "Please let me borrow Oden for one year, Newgate!! This is my last request!!!" Oden also wants to go, saying, "With him by my side, I know I can get to the final island!!!" He even bows, begging to be allowed to sail with Roger for one year, while the Whitebeard Pirates protest that Roger is their rival.

Whitebeard is furious at the idea of Roger taking someone from his family. He asks, "Quit screwing around, Roger! Do you really think I'll let you take a member of my family?" Yet Oden can feel his blood pumping. He thinks about the stones and the Kozuki clan, and he realizes this meeting with Roger cannot be coincidence. Before he can think straight, he already has his answer. He begs Whitebeard, "I want to get to the bottom of this. Please let me go with them!!" Oden calls Whitebeard his brother and says it is only for a year, but Whitebeard looks disgusted by the whole thing.

Whitebeard finally gives Oden the freedom to choose. Oden smiles, and the crew recognizes that all of them have become amazing pirates. Roger leaves all the treasure on his ship as thanks, and Whitebeard's men are stunned by how much there is. Whitebeard complains that Roger's crew should give the supplies back because Oden and his family will starve, but the two crews part with laughter and promises to see each other again. Oden, Toki, Momonosuke, Hiyori, Inuarashi, Nekomamushi, and Izo move from Whitebeard's world to Roger's final voyage.

Oden calls this the beginning of a new adventure and the second chapter of his pirate life. He writes that Whitebeard is a great man, but Roger is incomparable, and he feels lucky. Roger's ship, the Oro Jackson, carries them onward. Roger meets Momonosuke and Hiyori, saying it has been a while since he last held a baby and that they remind him of his childhood. Inuarashi and Nekomamushi reveal they are coming too, and Oden snaps at the cat and dog for stowing away, though they happily say they had so much fun with him.

The Roger Pirates do not immediately accept Oden as quickly as their captain did. One man says, "You're only here because the captain needs your knowledge..." and another warns, "We won't accept you as fast as the captain did, ya hear?!" Oden does not care; he sees a port city and asks if it has ingredients. The crew warns him not to advance without thinking, but he rushes off anyway. Pirates shout, valuables are stolen, and enemies try to attack, but the voyage turns into a feast. Oden drinks and laughs with Roger's crew, and they toast "to our time with Oden."

Roger tells the crew he has only one year left to live, which shocks Oden and the others. That urgency is why Roger is in a hurry. The Oro Jackson launches toward the Sky Island, and Oden panics, screaming, "I'm going to die!" When they arrive above the clouds, he is overwhelmed that people live in the sky. The world feels enormous and endless, and the sky island becomes one more proof that Oden's homeland had shown him only a fraction of reality.

On the Sky Island, the crew reaches the great golden bell. Buggy finds it and shouts, "I found it!!!" but Roger has no time to take the whole thing, telling Buggy he can come back when he is captain. The bell's stone has quite a voice, so it is easy to find, and it carries information about a weapon called Poseidon. Roger asks whether the stone happens to say something about "incredible power," and Oden writes Roger's message on the bell. Roger says, "I have come here and will lead this passage to the farthest ends of the world!!!" Oden inscribes the words, and Roger praises him: "Good work, Oden!!!"
