Bananadile

A large army on horseback and foot charges forward with weapons raised, kicking up dust. A voice says, 'Certainly as you say, the impending violent clash between the royal guards and the rebels might be averted.' A map shows the locations of Alubarna, Rainbase, and Nanohana, with an arrow pointing from Nanohana to Alubarna indicating 'Royal Army VS Rebels'. The voice continues, 'I'd give or take about 8 hours before the final clash begins...' Crocodile is shown in the bottom panel, smirking confidently. He says, 'It'll most likely take longer than 8 hours to get from here to Alubarna even if you hurry... I daresay you're running short on time...'

Crocodile stands in a large, elegant room with a grand staircase, talking to Vivi. He says, 'So if you intend on stopping the rebellion, you better leave right away. Lest you wish for tens of thousands to die in vain...!' He continues, 'But at the same time, you can also stay behind and try to save your friends here.' He points out, 'I've carelessly dropped the key to this cage in the room below.' Vivi looks down silently, her face shadowed. Crocodile adds, 'As you just saw, Down to the Bananadile lair...' Luffy, looking confused from inside the cage, asks, 'Bananadile?' Crocodile tells Vivi, 'The choice is yours, Ms. Wednesday...'

Usopp looks through the bars of the cage and exclaims, 'Whoa! Look, look! Those bananas have crocodiles growing out of 'em!' Zoro corrects him, 'Don't be stupid, it's the other way around. The bananas are growing from the crocodiles.' Nami yells, 'W-WHY'RE THOSE CROCODILES SO BIG!? AND WE'RE UNDERWATER RIGHT NOW! What a weird banana.' A massive crocodile with a banana-shaped growth on its head is shown swimming outside the glass window of the room. Vivi looks terrified, sweat dripping down her face, and gasps, 'AHH!' The giant crocodile suddenly snaps its jaws with a loud 'BITE!' sound. Vivi stammers in horror, 'THE CROCODILE IS...!'

Vivi looks horrified and says, 'Swallowed the key just now! One of the crocodiles...' A small panel shows the crocodile gulping down the key with a 'GULP!' sound. Usopp yells frantically from the cage, 'What's wrong, Vivi!?' Vivi explains, 'Bananadiles are ferocious creatures which can even prey on Sea Kings! I'll be eaten as soon as I get near one of them!' Usopp screams, 'WHAAAT! WELL GET DOWN THERE AND MAKE IT COUGH UP THE KEY!' Crocodile interjects smoothly, 'Oh, isn't that a pity... These buggers have a tendency to think of anything dropped down in that room as food. Not only that, you can't even tell which bananadile swallowed the key just now, can you...' Vivi gasps, 'WHAT!?'

Luffy yells, 'I KNOW THAT!' A voice tells Zoro, 'Don't be stupid, Zoro. We can't get out because the crocodile ate the key!' Zoro says, 'Damn it... If I could just get out there, I'd butcher those crocodiles...!' Nami glares angrily and says, 'I HATE THIS GUY!'. Crocodile turns to leave with Miss All Sunday. He says, 'It's time we excuse ourselves and go on ahead first. Well then,' He continues, 'It's served me well during my time as the leader of B.W. but I have no more need for it. Water will soon flood through, laying this secret room at the bottom of Rainbase Lake for eternity.' He adds, 'Oh, by the way, This room is set to self-destruct itself in 1 hour from now.'

Crocodile spreads his arms wide and says, 'The lives of a million innocent citizens, Or that of 4 small-time pirates with no future... Your chances of saving either are low, And you'll be wagering with your own heartfelt emotions. So I hope you're in the betting mood! KUHAHAHA!' Inside the cage, Smoker, Nami, Usopp, Luffy, and Zoro look on with serious or angry expressions. Crocodile and Miss All Sunday walk towards the exit. Crocodile says, 'In such circumstances, I suppose even a princess is powerless to do anything... It was a pleasure plotting in your kingdom thanks to all the clueless idiots, Ranging from the hot-headed young rebels to the stubborn old digger in Yuba!' Vivi kneels on the floor, looking completely defeated.

Smoker asks from the cage, 'Huh!? Are you talking about that shriveled up grandpa!?' Crocodile stops and looks back over his shoulder, 'Oh? Do you know him?' Crocodile continues, 'Even though his oasis has dried up long since, He stubbornly continues to dig, day after day... Hahaha... Doesn't it just make you laugh? The fool won't give up no matter how many sandstorms come his way...' Luffy looks furious, his teeth gritted, and yells, 'WHAT WAS THAT!?' Crocodile says, 'Let me ask you one thing, Straw-Hat Luffy...'

Crocodile smirks and asks, 'How likely do you think sandstorms would continue to hit the same spot over and over again...?' Luffy stares in shock, sweat forming on his face. Vivi looks up, horrified, and stammers, 'W-what do you mean by that!? Don't tell me he...' Crocodile grins widely as his upper body begins to turn into swirling sand with a 'WHRRR!' sound.

Luffy's face is contorted in absolute rage as he realizes the truth. He screams, 'IT WAS YOU...!?' Vivi looks devastated, tears welling in her eyes as she remembers the old man in Yuba saying, 'Yuba will never be defeated by mere sand...' She mutters, 'YOU'LL PAY FOR THIS...' Crocodile's face is shown fully formed from sand, mocking them, 'It's me! Can't you recognize me!? Well, I guess I can't blame you since I lost a few.' Crocodile and Miss All Sunday walk out the door, Crocodile laughing loudly, 'HAHA HAHA HAHA! HAHA!'

Water suddenly bursts into the room with a 'SPLASH!' sound. Usopp panics, 'OH CRAP! THE ROOM'S STARTING TO FLOOD!' He yells, 'THIS ENTIRE ROOM'S GONNA BE FLOODED AT THIS RATE! VIVI! YOU HAVE TO DO SOMETHING! I'M TOO YOUNG TO DIE IN AN HOUR!' Zoro tells him, 'Calm down, will ya...' Usopp retorts, 'ARE YOU KIDDING ME!? THIS IS A TEXTBOOK EXAMPLE OF WHEN TO PANIC! WE'RE GOING TO DIE AT THIS RATE! D-I-E! DO YOU UNDERSTAND WHAT THAT MEANS!?' Vivi sits on the floor, clutching her knees, thinking, 'CHOOSE BETWEEN MY COUNTRY... OR MY FRIENDS...!? YOU DON'T ACTUALLY INTEND ON LETTING ME CHOOSE, DO YOU!? EVEN IF I LEFT RIGHT NOW, I KNOW YOU'LL KILL ME BEFORE I EVER REACHED ALUBARNA! I KNOW THAT NOTHING WILL CHANGE UNTIL YOU'RE DEAD...!' She glares angrily, thinking, 'HOW DARE YOU DO THIS TO ALABASTA, WHEN YOU DON'T EVEN KNOW THE SLIGHTEST THING ABOUT ITS PEOPLE OR HISTORY... HOW DARE YOU...'

Vivi suddenly stands up and runs towards the trapdoor leading to the Bananadile lair. Usopp, Luffy, and Zoro watch her in surprise. She grabs the heavy trapdoor and tries to lift it, straining with a 'UU...!' and a 'CLANG!' as she pulls. Luffy yells out to her, 'VIVI!' Crocodile stops walking and looks back over his shoulder, hearing the commotion. Luffy looks desperate.

Vivi struggles with the trapdoor, yelling, 'YOU CAN'T GIVE UP! YOU HAVE TO GET US OUT OF HERE! Luffy...' Crocodile smirks and says, 'Kuhaha! Have you started to beg for your life, Straw-Hat Luffy? It's to be expected, of course. Anyone would be afraid to die...' Luffy screams at the top of his lungs, 'IF WE DIE HERE, THEN WHO THE HELL'S GONNA GIVE HIM THE BEATING HIS ASS NEEDS!?'

The group in the cage and Vivi look at Luffy in surprise. Crocodile's smirk fades slightly as he glares back, saying, 'DON'T GET CONCEITED, SMALL FRY...' Luffy glares right back, his face shadowed with intense anger, and yells, 'SPEAK FOR YOURSELF, SMALL FRY!'

Suddenly, a massive Bananadile bursts through the floor with a huge 'SPLASH!' and a 'GRRR!'. Vivi screams, 'AHH!' Usopp yells from the cage, 'T-t-that's one of the Shichibukai you're talkin' to there, Luffy...!' Crocodile tells Vivi, 'If you're going to abandon your friends, you better do it now, Ms. Wednesday. Don't you wish to stop the rebellion...?' The giant Bananadile looms over Vivi, its massive tail slamming down with a 'DOOOM!'. Vivi looks up at it in terror, thinking, 'It's... huge...'

Luffy cheers from the cage, 'ALRIGHT! KICK ITS ASS, VIVI! THAT THING'S HUUUGE! ARE YOU CRAZY!?' Usopp yells, 'NOW LOOK WHO'S TALKING CRAZY! Vivi, run! That thing's impossible for you! B-but save us too somehow!' Outside the window, more Bananadiles are gathering. Usopp notices, 'AHH! LOOK OUTSIDE THE WINDOW! THEY'RE ALL LINING UP TO GET INSIDE! Looks like they all see us as their meal...' The Bananadile in the room roars loudly, 'ROOOOAR!'. Crocodile says, 'So you intend on fighting to the very end... Do what you wish. I'm sure if you kill all of them, the key can be found inside one of their stomachs.' Vivi readies her weapons, spinning them on her fingers, and declares, 'PEACOCK STRING...'

The Bananadile lunges forward with incredible speed, its massive jaws smashing into the staircase where Vivi was standing, sending debris flying everywhere. Vivi screams, 'KYAA!' and dodges out of the way. Usopp yells, 'HOLY MOLY! THAT THING'S FAST! IT BIT OFF A HUGE CHUNK OF THE STAIRCASE IN ONE BITE! WHAT THE HELL ARE ITS JAWS AND TEETH MADE OUT OF!?' Luffy yells, 'VIVI!'

Vivi scrambles away on the floor as the Bananadile looms behind her. Usopp yells, 'OH CRAP! NOTHING'S GONNA WORK AGAINST THIS MONSTER! RUN AWAY, VIVI! STAND UP! IT'S GONNA SWALLOW YOU WHOLE!' Suddenly, a ringing sound echoes through the room: 'Pururu... Purururu...'. The Bananadile stops. Crocodile and Miss All Sunday also stop and listen. A small Den Den Mushi on a table is ringing. Miss All Sunday picks it up. It's labeled 'Mini Denden-Mushi [Can't Call Overseas]'. She answers, 'Hello?'

On the other end of the line, a voice says, 'Hello? Can you hear me? Yes, I can hear you just fine. You must be one of the millions. Is... Is this thing on? I've never used a Mini Denden-mushi before... Hello?' Miss All Sunday replies, 'Hm? Oh, nothing wrong! I can talk just fine. Is there something wrong?' Luffy and Usopp listen from the cage. Crocodile's eyes widen in recognition. He thinks, 'I recognize your voice...' He takes the receiver and demands, 'You on the denden-mushi! Spit it out quickly! What're you calling to report!?' The Den Den Mushi takes on the facial expression of the caller, complete with a swirly eyebrow and a cigarette, and replies, 'Hello again. This is the shitty restaurant.'
