Usopp looks through a telescope and spots a familiar ship docked near the shore. "THERE IT IS!" he exclaims. "I FOUND GOING MERRY! SHE DOCKED IT OVER THERE!" Johnny looks at a map and notes, "HMM, THAT CERTAINLY IS A RATHER STRANGE PLACE TO DOCK THE SHIP. IT'S A LITTLE OFF FROM THE 'COCOYASHI VILLAGE' MARKED ON THIS MAP." Meanwhile, Zoro, still tied up with ropes, angrily demands, "HEY, WHAT'S THE MEANING OF THIS! UNTIE ME NOW! I SAID UNTIE ME!" Usopp turns and yells at Zoro, "THAT'S ENOUGH. LOOK AT YOURSELF, YOU'RE ABOUT TO FAINT JUST FROM YELLING! YOU WERE AN INCH AWAY FROM DEATH, REMEMBER?" Usopp then strikes a confident pose, laughing loudly, "UHAHAHA! JUST LEAVE IT TO ME! I'LL BRING THAT GIRL BACK!" Johnny looks at him skeptically and remarks, "AREN'T YOU SUDDENLY CHEERFUL NOW THAT YOU KNOW WE'RE NOT GOING TO ARLONG PARK..."

Johnny steers the boat, calling out, "STARBOARD TO GOING MERRY! BRING ME UP RIGHT NEXT TO HER!" Usopp, standing proudly at the bow, declares, "ALRIGHT! THE ADVENTURE ABOUT TO UNFOLD AS I BRAVELY STEP FOOT ON THESE VIRGIN LANDS, WILL HEREBY BE KNOWN AS 'THE WARRIOR USOPP'S GREAT ADVENTURE!'" He asks, "FITTING TITLE, EH JOHNNY-BOY?" Johnny simply replies, "AYE-AYE." The boat glides smoothly towards the island. Suddenly, both Johnny and Usopp freeze in terror, their eyes bulging out as they spot something on the shore. "FISHMEN...!" they exclaim in shock, seeing silhouettes of fishmen standing on the dock near the Going Merry.

Panicking, Johnny immediately reverses course, shouting, "FULL SPEED AHEAD." Usopp frantically agrees, "AYE AYE." Zoro, still tied up, yells at them, "THE HELL ARE YOU JUST PASSING BY FOR!?" Usopp shushes him, "SSHHH!" and whispers angrily, "DIDN'T YOU SEE THEM!? THERE WERE FISHMEN! THE ARLONG PIRATES FOR CRYING OUT LOUD! I'M FREAKIN' SCARED OUT OF MY WITS, YOU GOT A PROBLEM WITH THAT!? DO YA, PUNK!?" Zoro glares back, "THE ONE WHO SHOULD BE MAD IS ME." Johnny, sweating, says, "IT'S NO GOOD... THIS ENTIRE REGION SEEMS TO BE UNDER ARLONG'S CONTROL." He adds, "WELL, NOW THAT WE KNOW WE CAN'T BRING NAMI BACK... WHAT SHOULD WE DO, BROTHER USOPP?" Zoro interrupts, "JUST HURRY UP AND UNTIE ME, YOU IDIOTS!" Suddenly, a voice calls out from off-screen, "HMM, THAT'S AN UNFAMILIAR SHIP!" Zoro reacts with a "GAHH!" as they realize they've been spotted.

Johnny yells, "ABANDON SHIP!" and Usopp protests, "HEY! WAIT A SEC!" but Johnny just replies, "AYE-AYE!" Both of them dive headfirst into the water, leaving Zoro behind. Zoro yells after them, "AT LEAST UNTIE ME BEFORE YOU RUN AWAY!" A fishman boat pulls up alongside theirs. A fishman calls out, "HEH HEH, LOOKS LIKE I CAUGHT UP TO YA. STOP THE SHIP!" The fishman looks onto the boat and says, "HUH, THERE'S ONLY ONE GUY ON-BOARD...?" He asks Zoro, "WERE YA EXILED OR SUMTHIN'?" Zoro, still bound, smiles menacingly and answers, "YEAH... SORT OF... I SWEAR I'LL KILL THEM FOR THIS!" The fishman notices Zoro's injuries and assumes, "I SEE, THEN THOSE MUST BE TORTURE WOUNDS?"

Johnny and Usopp are swimming away from the boat. Johnny says, "WELL, LET'S TAKE HIM TO ARLONG FOR THE TIME BEING...!" Usopp, crying dramatically, says, "FORGIVE US, ZORO. I SHALL PASS ALONG WORD OF YOUR GALLANT BRAVERY TO LUFFY." Johnny adds, "SUCH AN UNFORTUNATE PERSON... I'LL NEVER FORGET YOU, BRO...!" They eventually reach the shore, panting. "WELL, THAT'S ENOUGH OF THAT. LET'S GO ON SHORE," Johnny says. "SURE," Usopp replies. As they stand up and look around, their expressions turn to pure shock. "AH..." "WHA.." they utter. Before them is a completely devastated town. Johnny stammers, "JUST WHAT EXACTLY HAPPENED TO THIS TOWN...!?...T-THIS IS PROBABLY, 'GOSA VILLAGE' THAT ARLONG SUPPOSEDLY DESTROYED A COUPLE WEEKS AGO..."

A large, detailed panel shows the ruins of Gosa Village. The destruction is absolute; entire houses have been uprooted and flipped completely upside down, resting on their roofs along the cracked and ruined street. Palm trees are scattered, and debris is everywhere. Johnny and Usopp stand at the edge of the village, taking in the horrifying sight. Johnny says, "WHAT A SIGHT..." Usopp, trembling, observes, "ALL THE HOUSES HAVE BEEN THROWN UPSIDE DOWN...!" Johnny, sweating nervously, explains, "...I'VE HEARD THAT FROM THE MOMENT THEY'RE BORN, FISHMEN ARE 10 TIMES STRONGER THAN HUMANS...!"

Johnny continues to explain the terrifying power of their enemies: "THE STRENGTH OF THOSE FROM THE GRAND LINE...! AND WHAT HAPPENS TO THE TOWNS THAT OPPOSE ARLONG...!" Usopp notices something behind them and asks, "HM? WHAT'S WRONG, JOHNNY!?" A massive, imposing shadow looms over Usopp. A voice says, "ALMOST LET'CHA GET AWAY. YOU MUST BE THAT EXILED HUMAN'S PARTNER...!" Usopp slowly turns around and comes face-to-face with Chew, a tall fishman with prominent lips. Usopp screams in terror and immediately bolts away at top speed, leaving a cloud of dust. Chew yells, "WAIT!"

Johnny hides behind a ruined wall, sweating profusely. "WHEW, TALK ABOUT A CLOSE CALL..." he mutters. "MAY YOU BE SAFE, BROTHER USOPP! I SHALL AWAIT HERE FOR YOSAKU AND BROTHER LUFFY." Meanwhile, Usopp is sprinting away from Chew, laughing confidently, "PUHAHA HAHAHA! YOU THINK YOU CAN CATCH UP TO ME!? I'M A MASTER WHEN IT COMES TO RUNNING AWAY! CATCH ME IF YOU CAN!" Suddenly, as he runs, a stick swings out and smacks him hard in the face with a "WHACK!" Usopp yells, "WHA!?" and falls backward. Standing over him is a young boy holding a wooden weapon, glaring angrily. "I FOUND YOU, FISHMAN...! I'LL AVENGE MY DAD'S DEATH!" the boy declares.

The young boy, Chabo, swings his weapon at Usopp, yelling, "DIE, YOU ROTTEN FISHMAN!" Usopp cowers and panics, crying out, "AH!?" and "FISHMEN!" Suddenly, a woman steps in and grabs Chabo's weapon, stopping the attack. "LOOK CLOSELY. HE MIGHT LOOK A LITTLE LIKE ARLONG, BUT HE'S A HUMAN, JUST BARELY THOUGH," she says. Usopp, offended, repeats, "BARELY!?" Text boxes introduce the two new characters: "COCOYASHI VILLAGE WOMAN NOJIKO" and "GOSA VILLAGE BOY CHABO". Nojiko has a tattoo on her shoulder and is smoking a cigarette. Just then, Chew arrives on the scene, spotting them. "WAIT RIGHT THERE! HE'S HERE!"

Chew approaches, and Nojiko and Chabo look at him in alarm. "IT'S A FISHMAN!" Chabo yells. "IT'S A REAL ONE THIS TIME..." Nojiko adds. Usopp suddenly stands up, pulling out his slingshot and aiming it at Chew. "STAND BACK! I CAN'T RUN AWAY, LEAVING BEHIND A DEFENCELESS WOMAN AND CHILD!" he declares bravely. "IF IT'S JUST ONE FISHMAN, I'M SURE I CAN MANAGE SOMEHOW." Chew grins, "YOU THERE, SUSPICIOUS HUMAN! FINALLY GAVE UP, DID YA NOW?" Usopp yells, "IT'S THE OPPOSITE, I'VE RESOLVED TO TAKE YOU ON! EAT THIS! CERTAIN KILL..." He fires a pellet, which hits Chew squarely in the face with a "STRETCH" sound, but it has no visible effect. In the next panel, Chew smashes Usopp hard into a wall, while Nojiko and Chabo look on in shock. Usopp cries out, "I TOLD YOU, DON'T HARM THE FISHMEN!"

The scene shifts to a peaceful house surrounded by orange groves, labeled "OUTSKIRTS OF COCOYASHI VILLAGE". Inside the house, Usopp suddenly wakes up with a scream, "AHHH!" He finds himself sitting on the floor in a cozy living room. Nojiko is sitting at a table nearby, drinking tea. "SO YOU WOKE UP?" she asks. "YOU'RE IN MY HOME." Usopp looks around, confused, "T-THIS PLACE IS...!?" He then recognizes her, "YOU'RE THAT WOMAN FROM EARLIER... WHO'RE YOU!? AND WHAT ABOUT THAT FISHMAN!?" Nojiko calmly replies, "DON'T WORRY, WE LOST HIM. MY NAME'S NOJIKO. I GROW ORANGES HERE."

Usopp points an accusing finger at Nojiko, "WAIT A SEC, YOU'RE THE ONE WHO KNOCKED ME OUT!" Nojiko retorts, "ARE YOU THE FISHMEN'S LACKEY!? HMPH, AND AFTER I WAS GOING TO SAVE YOU TOO...! THE ONE DID THE SAVING WAS ME! THIS IS WHY OUTSIDERS ARE SO MUCH TROUBLE." She then turns her attention to Chabo, who is sitting nearby. "BUT YOU'RE FROM GOSA VILLAGE, RIGHT? IF SO, THEN YOU SHOULD UNDERSTAND THAT ATTACKING THE FISHMEN, WILL ONLY GET YOU KILLED. YOU OF ALL PEOPLE SHOULD BE MORE THAN WELL AWARE..." Chabo, gripping his knees, cries out, "I KNOW, BUT...! BUT THEY KILLED MY DAD! I WON'T FORGIVE THEM EVEN IF I DIE!" He continues, tears in his eyes, "THEY BROUGHT ALONG THAT HUGE MONSTER I'VE NEVER EVEN SEEN BEFORE AND... PILLAGED AND DESTROYED MY ENTIRE TOWN...! THEY KILLED SO MANY PEOPLE! THAT'S WHY I'VE SWORN REVENGE!"

Usopp is shocked by Chabo's story. "A HUGE MONSTER...? SO THEN THOSE STRANGE DENTS ON THE GROUND WERE... THOSE'RE THE TRACKS LEFT BEHIND BY THAT THING! IT'S UNIMAGINABLY HUGE! THEY SAID THEY BROUGHT IT OVER FROM GRAND LINE." Usopp starts to panic, "THERE'RE MONSTERS THERE TOO!? I... I EVEN WENT TO ARLONG PARK...!" Nojiko coldly tells Chabo, "THEN GO AHEAD AND DIE." Chabo looks up, startled, "!?" Nojiko continues, resting her chin on her hand, "AS LONG AS YOU KNOW YOU'RE GOING TO END UP DEAD, THEN FEEL FREE TO FIGHT! SOME EXCELLENT REVENGE THAT IS!" Chabo angrily replies, "BUT SOME FEMALE MEMBER OF THE ARLONG PIRATES STOPPED ME AT THE DOOR! SHE WAS LIKE A REAL WITCH! HOW DARE SHE GET IN MY WAY...! I WANNA KILL HER TOO...!"

Nojiko stands up from the table, looking stern. "BUT LET ME JUST SAY THIS ONE THING! THANKS TO ME, AND THAT WITCH LADY AT ARLONG PARK INTERFERING, YOU'VE NARROWLY ESCAPED DEATH TWICE!" She points towards the door, "GET OUT OF MY HOUSE ONCE YOU'RE DONE WITH THAT TEA. I HATE NAIVE LITTLE BRATS LIKE YOU!" Chabo glares at her, "HEY!" Usopp intervenes, "HE'S JUST A LITTLE KID! ISN'T THAT GOING A BIT TOO FAR!?" Nojiko snaps back, "SO WHAT IF HE'S JUST A KID!? ANYBODY WHO WANTS TO DIE A DOG'S DEATH CAN GO AHEAD AND DIE FOR ALL I CARE! IT'S NOT LIKE THEY HAVE ANY DESIRE TO LIVE ON ANYWAYS!" Usopp is taken aback, "WHAT!?" Nojiko's expression softens slightly as she looks away, "I KNOW... OF A CERTAIN CHILD WHO CHOSE TO LIVE A PAINFUL LIFE FAR WORSE THAN DEATH... BECAUSE SHE LOOKS FORWARD TO A BETTER FUTURE...!"

Nojiko yells angrily, "THAT'S WHY I ABSOLUTELY LOATHE BRATS LIKE HIM, WHO ONLY THINK ABOUT RUSHING TO THEIR DEATHS!" Chabo begins to cry, tears streaming down his face. "UUU... WHAT... WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO DO THEN...?" he sobs. Usopp watches him, feeling sympathetic, "IT'S SO... FRUSTRATING...!" Nojiko looks at Chabo and asks gently, "WHAT ABOUT YOUR MOM...? SHE'S STILL ALIVE."

Nojiko smiles warmly at Chabo. "THEN SHE MUST BE WORRIED. SO WHY DON'T YOU GO HOME TO YOUR MOM?" Chabo is seen walking away from the house, heading back. Inside, Usopp sits at the table, drinking tea. "YOU'RE ACTUALLY A PRETTY GOOD PERSON, EVEN THOUGH YOU DO HAVE A TATTOO," he says. Nojiko replies, "WELL ISN'T THAT PREJUDICED OF YOU!? THOUGH I CAN'T SAY I KNOW MUCH ABOUT YOU..." Usopp introduces himself, "AH THAT'S RIGHT. MY NAME'S CAPT. USOPP. I CAME HERE LOOKING FOR NAMI BUT..."

Usopp continues, "NAMI'S A MEMBER OF THE ARLONG PIRATES!? YUP, SHE'S PRETTY INFAMOUS AROUND THESE PARTS. EVEN THAT KID TALKED ABOUT HER EARLIER, REMEMBER? SHE'S THE WITCH-WOMAN HE TALKED ABOUT." Nojiko smiles and reveals, "MORE SURPRISING WOULD BE THE FACT THAT THIS IS THE HOUSE SHE GREW UP IN! THAT WITCH AND I ARE FOSTER SISTERS." Usopp is completely shocked, "WHAT!?" Meanwhile, at Arlong Park, a fishman approaches the large gates with Zoro in tow. "OPEN THE GATES! I BROUGHT A SUSPICIOUS-LOOKING GUY!" the fishman shouts. Zoro, still tied up, smirks confidently and says, "LET ME JUST WARN YOU BEFOREHAND THAT I AIN'T HARMLESS...!"
