TREASURE

A voice calls out from off-panel, "HEY!" Luffy turns his head, looking confused, and says, "HUH?" In the ruined street, the town mayor, Boodle, stands looking shocked at Luffy and Nami. Boodle yells, "HEY, KID! YOU'RE ALIVE! HOW COULD YOU SURVIVE THAT!?" Nami stands nearby with her hands on her hips and replies, "NO BIG DEAL." A question mark appears next to Luffy's head. Nami then turns to Luffy, asking, "BUT HOW? YOUR BODY DEMOLISHES A BUILDING AND YOU WALK AWAY WITHOUT A SCRATCH!? THAT'S CRAZY!" Luffy simply smiles and says, "CRAZY IS GOOD." Boodle, looking serious and sweating slightly, asks them, "WHY DID YOU ALL COME TO THIS TOWN ANYWAY? WHY TAKE ON PIRATES?" Luffy grins widely and answers, "I JUST FIGURED OUT WHY I'M HERE. I'M AFTER THE MAP OF THE GRAND LINE... AND A NAVIGATOR!!"

In front of a shop labeled "PET FOOD", a small white dog named Chouchou stands his ground, barking fiercely: "RUFF!! RUFF! RUFF! RUFF!!" Facing him is a massive lion, Richie, being ridden by a man in a furry suit, Mohji. Mohji looks down at the dog and asks, "WHAT'S WITH THIS DOG? DOES HE THINK HE CAN STOP US FROM ENTERING THAT STORE?" A close-up shows Mohji scowling as he says, "YOU LITTLE MUTT..." Next to him, Richie the lion bares his teeth and growls, "GRRRRR..." Mohji continues, "DON'T TELL ME YOU'RE GUARDING THIS CRUMMY SHOP?" while Chouchou continues to bark aggressively, "RUFF!! RUFF!! RUFF!"

With a swift motion and a "SWAP..." sound, Richie the lion swats Chouchou with his large paw. The small dog is sent flying backward, hitting a wooden pillar with a loud "SKRSSK" and crying out, "YIPE!!" Richie then steps heavily onto the wooden porch of the pet food store, his paws making "SKRUF SKRUF" sounds. Chouchou, now bleeding from his head and lying on the ground, growls "GRRRR! FWA" and continues to bark defiantly at the giant beast: "RUFF! RUFF! RUFF!" A flashback shows the pet food store newly built and pristine. A man, Hocker, stands proudly in front of the "OPEN" sign, gesturing to the building. He says, "LOOK, CHOUCHOU! THE STORE'S ALL FINISHED! YOU AND ME WILL MAKE IT PROSPER TOGETHER!" A happy "RUFF!" comes from a speech bubble near the bottom.

The giant lion Richie bares his sharp teeth in a fierce grimace as the small dog Chouchou bites down hard on his arm with a "CHOMP". Richie retaliates swiftly, swinging his massive paw and sending Chouchou flying through the air with a "FWUMP!" and a loud "THWAK!!". The little dog crashes hard onto the wooden porch, debris flying around him. A flashback begins, showing the history of the pet food store. In the first memory, a younger Hocker, the shop owner, sits outside with Chouchou, sighing, "BUSINESS IS AWFUL SLOW..." Chouchou replies with a "RUFF!" In the next scene, a younger Mayor Boodle says, "HAVING A ROUGH TIME, EH? FINE, THEN I'LL BUY SOME PET FOOD TO EAT!" The final flashback panel shows Boodle angrily reacting while Hocker laughs heartily at him: "HA HA HA! YOU LOOK LIKE A DOG, BUT I DIDN'T KNOW YOU ATE LIKE ONE, TOO!!" Boodle yells, "YOU IDIOT! I'M TRYING TO HELP YOU!"

Back in the present, Mohji looks down with a smug, condescending expression. "MY-OH-MY! YOU DON'T KNOW WHEN TO QUIT! IS YOUR FAVORITE FOOD IN THERE, DOGGY?" Behind him, Richie the lion stands tall, while Chouchou continues to bark defiantly, "RUFF! RUFF!" The flashback resumes, showing more memories of Hocker and Chouchou. Hocker relaxes in a wooden tub, happily announcing, "WE SOLD 100 BOXES TODAY!" as Chouchou barks, "RUFF!" Another memory shows an angry Hocker yelling, "CHOUCHOU! HOW MANY TIMES HAVE I TOLD YOU NOT TO EAT THE MERCHANDISE!" In a third scene, Hocker stands proudly in front of his "PET FOOD" store while a young woman pets Chouchou. Hocker boasts, "HEH HEH! THAT'S THE SMARTEST, BRAVEST DOG IN TOWN, MISS!" The final flashback panel shows Hocker lying in a hospital bed, smiling gently. "AWRIGHT, CHOUCHOU. YOU'RE IN CHARGE OF THE SHOP WHILE I'M IN THE HOSPITAL." The scene returns to the present, focusing on Richie growling menacingly, "GRRRR...", while Chouchou stands his ground, barking fiercely, "RUFF! RUFF! RUFF!"

Walking away from the scene, Nami declares, "I'M GOING TO LOOK FOR ZOLO. I'D BETTER FIND HIM BEFORE THAT WEIRD COSTUME GUY DOES." Mayor Boodle, walking behind her with his spear, warns frantically, "DON'T TALK CRAZY! NEXT TIME, THAT LION WILL EAT YOU ALIVE!" Luffy walks alongside them, smiling casually. Meanwhile, back at the shop, Richie the lion is happily devouring a box of pet food, making "KRUNCH KRUNCH RSK RSK" sounds. Mohji inspects his arm, looking annoyed. "...STUBBORN DOG BIT MY ARM... I'M BLEEDING!" Mohji then rides away on Richie's back, leaving the ruined shop behind. "WHAT KIND OF FOOL WOULD PIT A DOG AGAINST ME? WELL, HE'LL NEVER SELL PET FOOD IN THIS TOWN AGAIN..." Elsewhere, Luffy is walking along with a "SHUF SHUF" sound when he stops, hearing a distant bark: "RUFF!" He turns his head, his expression shifting to one of surprise and concern as the barking continues: "RUFF!"

A massive, roaring fire consumes the pet food store, flames billowing high into the sky with a loud "FWOOOSH". In front of the blazing inferno, the small silhouette of Chouchou sits alone, barking continuously at the destruction of his home: "RUFF! RUFF! RUFF!" "RUFF! RUFF! RUFF!" Luffy stands at a distance, watching the tragic scene unfold in silence as the dog's barks echo: "RUFF! RUFF! RUFF! RUFF! RUFF!" The burning building begins to collapse with a deafening "ROOOO KRASH ROOOO". A narration box reveals the heartbreaking reality: "THIS IS HIS MASTER'S STORE... IT'S HIS TREASURE." Amidst the collapsing debris and roaring flames, Chouchou keeps barking, "RUFF! RUFF!"

YOU'VE GOT THE DEVIL'S OWN LUCK, BOY. BUT THAT HIT MUST HAVE SCRAMBLED YOUR BRAINS..." A close-up of Mohji's scowling face follows as he finishes, "YOU'D HAVE TO BE CRAZY..."

Mohji points forward aggressively, commanding his beast: "TO TANGLE WITH ME AGAIN! RICHIE, BITE HIS HEAD OFF!!" Richie the giant lion lunges forward, his massive jaws wide open, roaring fiercely: "GRRRRAARRR!!!!" Luffy pulls his arms back, preparing to counterattack, and says, "IT'LL TAKE MORE THAN THAT LION..." He then twists his arms together tightly like a thick rope, the motion creating a loud "SWURK SWURK SWURK!!" sound. He finishes his sentence: "TO KILL ME!" Mohji's eyes bulge out of his head in utter shock, his tongue hanging out as he screams, "WHAT'RE YOU DOING TO YOUR ARMS!?" A close-up shows Mohji sweating profusely, stammering, "HOW CAN YOU--!? GRMF!?" as a loud "HRWNGH!!" sound effect emphasizes his disbelief at the impossible sight.

Luffy yells, "GUM-GUM..." as his tightly twisted arms rapidly unwind, spinning like a drill with a loud "FWOOP FWOOP FWOOP FWOOP" sound. With incredible force, Luffy swings his untwisted arms downward, slamming both fists directly onto the top of Richie's head. A massive "KRA-SAK!!!!" sound effect fills the panel as the heavy impact crushes the giant lion downward into the ground. Luffy shouts the final part of his attack name as the blow lands: "...GAVEL!!!!!"

A close-up shows Mohji's face contorted in absolute shock, his eyes wide and mouth agape as he screams, "RICHIE!!!" A jagged speech bubble next to him contains "!!!?". In the next large panel, the giant lion Richie lies completely unconscious on his back in the middle of the street, his legs sticking up in the air after landing with a heavy "FWUMP". Nearby, Luffy sits casually on the ground, adjusting his straw hat with a quiet "HMPH!". Mohji yells at him, "WHAT ARE YOU, YOU FREAK!?" Luffy answers calmly, "A LONG TIME AGO, I ATE THE FRUIT OF THE GUM-GUM TREE!!" A smaller inset panel shows Mohji sweating profusely as he realizes the implication: "THE GUM-GUM TREE? YOU ATE THE DEVIL'S FRUIT, LIKE CAPTAIN BUGGY!?" In the bottom right panel, Mohji is now on his knees, hands raised defensively in a pleading gesture. Terrified and sweating, he begs, "OKAY, OKAY! In the background, Luffy stands firmly planted and stretches both of his arms out over a massive distance toward the fleeing pirate. The stretching motion creates a loud "SREEEEEN" sound. Luffy yells, "TAKE THIS!" as Mohji continues to wail in panic, "AAAAAHHHH! NOOOO! PLEASE!!!!! WAAAAAGH!" Luffy's elongated hands reach Mohji and latch onto him tightly with a loud "GRAB!" sound effect.

A massive impact scene dominates the upper portion of the page. With incredible force, Luffy has violently slammed Mohji headfirst into the ground. A huge "SPAK" sound effect fills the background behind the action. Mohji's upper body is completely buried in the dirt, with his legs sticking straight up into the air. Blood and debris fly outward from the point of impact as Mohji manages a weak, cut-off cry: "HELP M-". Luffy stands over him, his arms returning to normal after delivering the devastating blow. In the bottom left panel, a close-up shows the small dog, Chouchou, watching the scene quietly. In the bottom right panel, a wider view of the ruined street is shown. Chouchou sits alone in the dirt road, positioned in front of the smoldering, collapsed remains of the pet food store. Smoke rises gently from the debris of his destroyed home.

In the top panel, Nami and Mayor Boodle walk back down the ruined street. They stop and look ahead, seeing the small dog Chouchou sitting quietly in front of the smoking wreckage of the pet food store. In the middle right panel, a close-up shows Nami looking angry and disgusted. She mutters, "PIRATES!!! THEY'RE ALL THE SAME!!!" In the middle left panel, a close-up of Mayor Boodle shows his expression grim and serious. He adds, "THEY TAKE AWAY WHAT'S MOST PRECIOUS AND LAUGH!!!" In the bottom right panel, Luffy steps out into the street with a "SHUF" sound, looking over his shoulder and saying, "HUH?" Nami angrily shakes her fist at Luffy, yelling, "I OUGHTA KILL YOU RIGHT NOW, BEFORE YOU CAN GET A CREW AND GO PILLAGE SOME TOWN!" Behind her, Mayor Boodle looks stressed and holds up his hands, saying, "NOW, SIMMER DOWN!" Luffy stares back calmly. He picks his nose and replies, "YOU DON'T STAND A CHANCE AGAINST ME!" Nami growls, "GRRR," and snaps, "HUH!?" She continues to yell, "THEN LET'S HAVE IT OUT RIGHT NOW!!!" as Luffy casually walks away with a "SHUF SHUF" sound. Nami shouts after him, "HEARTLESS PIRATE!" while Boodle tries to intervene, "CALM DOWN! WHAT'S WRONG WITH YOU!?" In the next panel, a hand sets a box of pet food down in front of the small dog Chouchou with a "PLUNK!" sound. An exclamation mark appears next to Chouchou's head as he looks at it. Nami and Boodle notice this, with Nami saying, "HEY..." They look over to see Luffy standing near Chouchou in front of the smoking ruins of the pet food store.

Luffy sits cross-legged on the ground in front of Chouchou, smiling warmly. He says, "THAT'S ALL I COULD SAVE FOR YOU, BOY!" He adds, "THE REST GOT EATEN, OR BURNED..." Chouchou sits quietly with the box of pet food, a "..." bubble above his head. A close-up shows Nami looking surprised and moved, swallowing with an "ULP!". She realizes, "HE FOUGHT THAT LION......FOR THE DOG'S SAKE!!" The battered box of pet food is shown. Luffy continues to smile at the dog, telling him, "YOU DID GOOD! YOU FOUGHT WELL! I DIDN'T GET TO SEE YOU IN ACTION... BUT I KNOW YOU DID GOOD!" Chouchou sits silently with his food, looking resolute. Luffy then stands up and walks away with a "SHUF SHUF" sound, leaving Chouchou behind. As Luffy walks down the ruined street, Chouchou watches him go, his tail wagging with a small "FWP" sound.

As Luffy walks away down the street, Chouchou calls out to him with a loud "RUFF!" Luffy turns back over his shoulder, flashing a wide, cheerful grin. He replies, "THANKS... GOOD LUCK TO YOU, TOO!" Chouchou barks happily in response, "RUFF!!! RUFF!!!" Watching the exchange, Nami smiles softly and murmurs, "HMPH..." The scene shifts to a building with a sign reading "Drinker Pub". From inside, a voice asks in disbelief, "MOHJI WAS DEFEATED!?" Another voice confirms, "'AT'S RIGHT, CAP'N!" In the final panel, Buggy the Clown is shown laughing maniacally with his arms outstretched. He commands, "READY MY SPECIAL BUGGY BALLS!!! TEATIME'S OVER, KIDDIES! WE'RE GOING TO LIGHT UP THIS TOWN!! UNTIL THERE'S NOTHING LEFT!!!"
